Neeraj Chopra, Arshad Nadeem pull out of Silesia Diamond League; Here's why
The much-hyped javelin battle between India's Neeraj Chopra and Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem will not materialize at the 2025 Silesia Diamond League. Scheduled for August 16 in Poland, the highly anticipated clash was shelved after Chopra withdrew and Nadeem was not listed in the final entry roster. Organizers had initially confirmed the participation of both Olympic medalists in early July, building excitement for a rare Indo-Pak rivalry in athletics. However, uncertainty loomed after Nadeem recently underwent surgery on his right calf in London. His coach, Salman Butt, later confirmed that the Paris Olympic gold medallist would skip the event, prioritizing recovery and preparation for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September. Stellar 2025 Season for Neeraj Despite the setback, Neeraj Chopra has enjoyed a remarkable 2025 campaign. He opened his season with a victory at the Potch Invitational in South Africa and then achieved a national record throw of 90.23m at the Doha Diamond League in May, becoming the first Indian javelin thrower to join the elite 90m club. Following that, he secured a second-place finish at the Janusz Kusoci?"ski Memorial in Poland but bounced back with a win at the Paris Diamond League, throwing 88.16m. He also claimed the Ostrava Golden Spike title, which helped him reclaim the world number one ranking in men's javelin throw. Neeraj further added to his accolades by winning the NC Classic in India, a domestic competition he personally hosts and promotes. Both Chopra and Nadeem are now expected to square off at the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo next month. With both athletes aiming for peak performance on the global stage, fans will be hopeful that the Indo-Pak clash they missed in Poland will finally unfold in Japan.

WI vs PAK, 2nd ODI: West Indies beats Pakistan by five wickets, levels series 1-1
Roston Chase and Justin Greaves led West Indies to a five-wicket victory over Pakistan with 10 balls to spare in the rain-reduced second One-Day International (ODI) on Sunday, levelling the three-match series 1-1. Chase's 49 not out off 47 balls included two sixes and the winning boundary as West Indies scored 184 for five in 33.2 overs. The hosts were chasing a revised target of 181 runs in 35 overs under the DLS method after multiple rain interruptions saw Pakistan's innings end at 171 for seven in 37 overs. Right-arm fast bowler Jayden Seales took 3-23 in seven overs. West Indies stumbled from 101 for three after 18 overs at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad and Tobago, to 111 for five off 24 overs, including the wicket of Sherfane Rutherford, who hit a 33-ball 45 that included three sixes and four fours. AS IT HAPPENED: WI vs PAK 2nd ODI Highlights Chase and Greaves (26 off 31) shared a 77-run unbroken partnership for the sixth wicket. West Indies earlier chose to bowl first, and Hasan Nawaz again played a key role for Pakistan with 36 not out off 30 deliveries, after his unbeaten 63 in the ODI opener. Hasan's knock on Sunday included three sixes — two of them in what turned out to be the last over of Pakistan's innings after more rain. Hussain Talat got 31 off 32 balls, but most Pakistan batters were much slower, including captain Mohammad Rizwan, who was trapped lbw by Gudakesh Motie for a 38-ball 16. Pakistan had beaten West Indies in the first ODI on Friday, also by five wickets. The third and final match in the series is scheduled for Tuesday at the same stadium. Pakistan won the preceding Twenty20 series 2-1, which was played in Florida.

No Indo-Pak javelin showdown as Neeraj Chopra, Arshad Nadeem both withdraw from Silesia Diamond League
The highly anticipated Indo-Pak clash between Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra and Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem failed to take place after Chopra withdrew from the Silesia Diamond League 2025, scheduled on August 16, while Nadeem's name is also absent from the official entry list for the meet in Poland. The two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj and Paris Olympics gold medal winner Nadeem's participation was first announced by the organisers of the Silesia Diamond League event in early July. However, the high-profile face-off was already in doubt after Nadeem underwent surgery on his right calf in London last month. Nadeem's coach, Salman Butt, would then say it was unlikely the Paris Olympics gold medallist would compete in the Diamond League event. 'He (Nadeem) is more focused on preparing for the World Championships in Tokyo in September, which is why he decided to have the surgery on his calf muscle, which had been bothering him for a while now,' coach Salman Butt had said. Now, with Neeraj skipping out of the event with the reasons for his absence still not clear, the Ind-Pak clash ended in a damp squib. Neeraj has had a terrific 2025 athletics season. He began the year with a win at the Potch Invitational in Potchefstroom, South Africa, in April and followed it up with a second-place finish at the Doha Diamond League in May, where he recorded a new national record of 90.23m. Crucially, however, he entered the coveted 90m club. He came second again at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Poland later that month but returned to winning ways at the Paris Diamond League in June with an 88.16m effort. Neeraj also added the Ostrava Golden Spike title to his name, which helped him reclaim the world number 1 rank in men's javelin throw. After that, Neeraj also won the NC Classic in India, an event named after and hosted by him. Both Neeraj and Nadeem are expected to face off at the World Athletics Championships 2025 scheduled in Tokyo, Japan, next month.
