Telangana Formation Day: History
On July 30, 2013, the Congress Working Committee adopted a resolution advocating for the creation of Telangana as a separate state. Protests calling for the creation of the state were going on at the time. To ensure the resolution of the matter, the Union Government formed a committee with a number of ministers.
The Union Government agreed to the call for the establishment of the new state after the group prepared a report. The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill was subsequently approved by the Parliament in 2014. At the time, it was agreed that Hyderabad would serve as both Andhra Pradesh's and Telangana's joint capital for at least the next decade.
What is the Significance of the Telangana Formation Day?
Telangana Formation Day is a day to honour the struggles that the people of Telangana have endured in the pursuit of the formation of their state. Pakistan Faces Uphill Task In Highlighting Kashmir Issue, Acknowledges Bilawal Bhutto
New Delhi: Former Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari acknowledged that Pakistan's Kashmir campaign hasn't gained traction at the United Nations or globally. At a news conference, Bilawal stated that "hurdles" persist in advancing the Kashmir cause within the UN and elsewhere. During meetings with UN officials and diplomats, Bilawal observed receptiveness on issues such as terrorism and water, but this openness didn't extend to the Kashmir issue. This limited support underscores the challenges Pakistan faces in garnering international backing for its Kashmir campaign. Bilawal dismissed a Palestinian journalist's attempt to draw parallels between Kashmir and Gaza, emphasizing that the situations are distinct. He condemned the situation in Gaza, describing it as "uniquely outrageous, inhumane, and condemnable". Bilawal also alleged that India draws inspiration from Israel, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi trying to emulate Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's approach. "As far as the hurdles we face within the UN and in general, as far as the Kashmir cause is concerned, that still exists," Bilawal, who is leading a delegation of Pakistani parliamentarians, said at a news conference here on Tuesday. He asserted that in his meetings with UN officials and diplomats, he found "receptiveness" on issues like terrorism and water, but it did not extend to Kashmir. Bilawal, who is the Chairman of the Pakistan People's Party, dismissed an attempt by a Palestinian journalist to equate Kashmir and Gaza, a familiar ploy that some Pakistanis have also used. "Let me emphasise from the outset, there is, there's no meaningful comparison that I can make between the plight of the Palestinians and the plight of Pakistan, the plight of Kashmir," he said. "What we're seeing in Gaza, what we're seeing in Palestine, is uniquely outrageous, inhumane and condemnable in all shapes, forms and terms," he added. But he went on to allege that India was drawing its inspiration from Israel and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was trying to model himself on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but was nowhere near him. Islamabad modeled Bilawal's delegation after the all-party delegations India has been sending around the world to explain its policy of zero-tolerance for terrorism and the Operation Sindoor that was launched against terrorist facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir after the massacre of 26 people in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. After arriving in New York on Monday, the Pakistani delegation met UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, General Assembly President Philemon Yang, Security Council President Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, and permanent representatives of the US, China, Russia, France to the UN, and the non-permanent members of the Council. They are due to be in Washington on Wednesday, when the Indian Parliamentary delegation led by Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor will also be there.

United Oppn demands spl Parl session on Op Sindoor
New Delhi: In a significant move, 16 Opposition parties from the INDIA Bloc have written a joint letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to convene a special session of Parliament to deliberate on the recent Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and other key national security issues. While the opposition has extended support to the government's actions against terrorism, it has also stressed the importance of transparent and strategic discussions within the framework of Parliament. 'Our demand has been consistent -- a special session of Parliament should be called, not only to express gratitude to our armed forces for their bravery and sacrifice, but also to allow the government to present its comprehensive stance on the matter,' the Congress said in a statement following a meeting of INDIA bloc leaders. Addressing the media, Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda elaborated on the parties' concerns: 'We expect the government to speak on issues such as Operation Sindoor, the recent ceasefire announcement by the US, diplomatic efforts to isolate Pakistan globally, and a concrete strategy to uproot terrorism. Parliament is the voice of 140 crore citizens -- this is where such matters must be addressed.' Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien emphasised the constitutional responsibility of the government to keep Parliament informed. 'The government is accountable to the Parliament, and Parliament is accountable to the people. That is why 16 parties have signed this letter, demanding a special session,' he said. The parties that signed the letter include Congress, SP, AITC, DMK, Shiv Sena (UBT), RJD, J&K NC, CPI(M), IUML, CPI, RSP, JMM, VCK, Kerala Congress, MDMK, CPI (ML).

Modi to inaugurate world's highest rail bridge
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the world's highest railway bridge, built over the Chenab River in Reasi district on June 6. Union minister Jitendra Singh confirmed this on Tuesday. Along with the bridge, the Prime Minister will also launch the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat train service. The Chenab railway bridge, now officially part of the Katra to Sangaldan rail section, stands as the world's highest railway arch bridge. This will be the first-ever train link connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India. The bridge towers 359 meters above the Chenab River, surpassing even the Eiffel Tower in height. For the first time, Kashmir will be directly linked to the rest of India via rail. This bridge is a key component of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, which spans 272 kilometers and includes 36 tunnels totaling 119 kilometers and nearly 1,000 bridges. The terrain's complexity and the region's seismic sensitivity posed major engineering challenges, but Indian engineers successfully executed this ambitious project, a feat many once deemed impossible. Railway officials highlighted the Chenab Bridge's structural strength, mentioning that it can withstand wind speeds over 250 km/h and was built using about 30,000 metric tons of steel. One foundation, known as S20, is so massive it covers nearly one-third of a football field, specifying the scale and vision behind the structure. The entire USBRL project represents not just engineering excellence but also New India's resolve and determination. With electric engines powered by specially designed overhead equipment (OHE) and advanced tunnel safety systems, the railway line is built for resilience and long-term service. The train service was earlier planned to begin on April 19 but was postponed after cancellation of PM Modi's visit due to bad weather. After the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, this railway project now holds even more importance than before.
