
Ahaan Panday Was An AD For The Railway Men; He's A Beautiful Boy: Dibyendu Bhattacharya
Actor Dibyendu Bhattacharya spoke about Saiyaara star Ahaan Panday, revealing they bonded when the latter was an AD on The Railway Men sets.
Actor Dibyendu Bhattacharya, an alumnus of the prestigious National School of Drama, started his film career in 2001 with Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding. He has spent over two decades in the world of entertainment and, of late, is gaining prominence with his choice of roles in projects such as Jamtara, Dev D, Poachers, and others. In an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, Dibyendu spoke about the film industry and reflected on the time he met Ahaan Panday on the sets of The Railway Men, where the Saiyaara star was working as an Assistant Director (AD).
Dibyendu spoke warmly about Saiyaara and his personal connection with debutant Ahaan Panday. 'I'm very happy about Saiyaara because Ahaan is a beautiful boy. When I was doing The Railway Men, Ahaan was an AD on the set. He used to come to my van and take me to the set – we'd talk a lot. I just spoke to him two days ago. He called me and I was so happy for him. Yeh hi toh din hote hain jo aap umeed karte ho ki industry mein aayein (These are the days that you wish for when you mark your debut in films)," he said.
Cracking the code about what works in the film industry is very difficult. There are many star kids who've recently debuted in films but Ahaan Panday just blew the charts. Commenting on this, Dibyendu said, 'I'm so happy for that boy."
Dibyendu says there is no formula to crack this industry
Dibyendu Bhattacharya further reflected on how difficult it is to stand out in an industry filled with emerging talents. When asked about the increasing importance of film promotions and how a film like Saiyaara became a nationwide sensation despite minimal marketing, Dibyendu said, 'Yeh bolna bahut mushkil hai (It's very difficult to say). There is no mathematics. I think agar yeh mathematics kisi ko pata hota na, toh duniya ki saari filmein hit hoti (If anyone knew the code then all films would have been hits). Even Warner Bros doesn't know, Dharma doesn't know, Yash Raj doesn't know. No production house really knows what will work."
He explained how unpredictable the audience's taste can be and how the best marketing strategies can fall flat if the film doesn't connect emotionally. 'Agar aapko pata hota ki kis tareeke se isko market karna hai, toh sab kar lete (If anyone knew the correct marketing tool, everyone would do so). A good film should sell even without marketing. And it's also very difficult to know what audiences will like. You don't know what will click."
For Dibyendu, the only reliable constant in this industry is sincerity. 'Mujhe lagta hai ki shiddat se film banate jaiye aur kaam karte jaiye. Baaki sab cheezein destiny pe chhodd dijiye. Kaunsi film chalegi, kya hoga, yeh koi nahi jaanta (I believe one should keep making films with sincerity and continue working hard. Leave everything else to destiny. No one knows which film will work or what will happen)."
On the work front, Dibyendu Bhattacharya was last seen in Fateh and Kapkapii. As for Ahaan Panday's Saiyaara, the film is just inches away from crossing Rs 200 crore within a week of its release.

‘Su From So': How an unheralded Kannada film broke marketing norms to set box office records
Three days ago, Su From So was an unheralded film. Today, it has shaken the Kannada film industry, reiterating the importance of quality content and prompting filmmakers to reassess their promotional strategies. Su From So, released during the cataclysmic run of Saiyaara, the Hindi love story that has revived the romance genre in Bollywood. The entertaining F1, which had crossed the ₹100 crore-mark in India, was still a hot property in Bengaluru. And Telugu star Pawan Kalyan's much-awaited Hari Hara Veera Mallu was expected to score big. However, three days after its theatrical release, Su From So has conquered every hurdle in its path to break box office records. It's a surprise hit of 2025. 'Three days ago, Su From So was an unknown project. Today, you have made it one of the most exciting films of the year,' Raj B Shetty, who co-produced the movie, wrote on social media. The numbers associated with Su From So are mind-boggling. The film created history when one lakh twenty-seven thousand tickets got sold on the ticketing app BookMyShow on Saturday (July 26, 2025). No Kannada film has enjoyed this amount of ticket sales in a single day on the online platform. On Sunday, Su From So enjoyed more than 550 housefull shows across India, a terrific number considering the prolonged lull in the Kannada film industry in 2025. Raj, apart from co-producing the movie, plays a prominent character in Su From So, but his role was kept a secret. The director of acclaimed films like Ondu Motteya Kathe and Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana could have been the face of the film, but chose not to hog the limelight of a movie filled with fresh faces in Kannada. One video message from Raj proved to be game-changing. 'We know that you are tired of pre-release interviews and reactions from celebrity shows. We aren't doing them for our movie. We want you all to be our honest promoters. Watch our film and spread the word,' the actor-director had urged, as he announced paid-premiere shows in Shivamogga, Mysuru, Mangaluru, and Bengaluru. Bharath Sudhama, co-founder of film marketing company The Big Little, feels Raj pulled off a coup with his statement. 'Saying you won't promote a film is itself a promotion. It means that you are telling the audience you are completely confident about your content. People walk into the theatres wanting to like the movie because of the bold step from the makers,' he analyses. 'It's like Upendra saying his film is only for the intelligent ones (bhuddivantharige maatra). Everybody would want to be known as intelligent to watch his movies.' After avoiding the customary YouTube appearances, Su From So banked on their content to do the talking. The hilarious trailer and the peppy dance number, called 'Dank Anthem', had given the movie some advantage. Post its release, the outstanding word of mouth has bolstered ticket sales. 'We are getting requests for more shows,' Raj told reporters. On Sunday, 72 early-morning shows (EMS, before 9:00 am) were added in Bengaluru theatres, an unprecedented development. Bharath says the industry must be cautious and not see this low-key promotion strategy as a formula. 'Minimal promotions might not work for another movie because it may not garner exceptional word-of-mouth in the initial phase. You can't criticise a team that opts for vibrant promotional methods just because one movie tasted success without promotional activities. Every film team has to find a unique option to suit its content,' explains Bharath. Just like Kirik Party (2016), Kantara (2022), and 777 Charlie (2022), it's a team from the coastal Karnataka region that has resurrected a struggling industry with a refreshing subject aimed at entertaining the family audience. Su From So, directed by popular Tulu theatre artiste and film actor JP Thuminad, is a rip-roaring horror comedy set in a village in Dakshina Kannada. Marked by excellent performances, the film makes for a great community viewing, as it weaves an important message with a rooted presentation, maintaining the flavour of the backdrop. Su From So, following a stupendous start, is set to go places. Dulquer Salman's Wayfarer Films will distribute the Malayalam dubbed version of the movie in Kerala from August 01, 2025. Anil Thadani's AA Films has bagged the North India distribution rights for the movie. Phars Film Co. LLC is in talks to release the movie overseas.

Saiyaara is doing wonders at the box office. After a phenomenal opening week, the movie has registered another massive second weekend and even made it to the top 10 best second weekends of all time, domestically. Saiyaara scores Rs 75.50 crore in second weekend, takes 8th spot among the top 2nd weekends of all time Directed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara fetched over Rs 75.50 crore in its second weekend, with Rs 18 crore coming on Friday, followed by Rs 26 crore and Rs 30 - 31 crore on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. It registered the 8th best second weekend of all time, leaving behind Shah Rukh Khan 's Pathaan, Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and Aamir Khan's Dangal. It remained behind other juggernauts, including Pushpa 2, Chhaava, Stree 2, Gadar 2, Animal, Baahubali 2, and Jawan. When compared to its opening weekend, Saiyaara maintained a strong hold, dropping by just 9 percent in its second weekend. The Mohit Suri directorial is the only newcomer's movie and the second 2025 released movie after Chhaava, mentioned in the list. It will be interesting to see whether or not YRF's upcoming production venture, War 2, will find a place among the Top 10 second weekends of all time.
