3-day residential training for MEOs begins in State
While inaugurating, EV Narsimha Reddy Director of School Education Department, emphasised that MEOs play a crucial role in the development of schools at the field level and advised all MEOs to visit schools and work towards improving student learning outcomes. Compared to the past, now every mandal has a designated MEO, and hence, the performance of MEOs should help in strengthening public trust in government schools .Under the Badi Bata (School Enrollment Drive) programme, he instructed that each MEO should implement a special action plan to increase student enrollment in schools within their mandal. 'So far, in the first two phases, 94,794 teachers have been trained through 866 centres at district and mandal levels,' said a senior officer.

School education department to hold silambam exhibition
In an effort to throw light on silambam, the School Education department is conducting an exhibition on the martial art to mark National Silambam Day on August 10. The one-day exhibition hosted at the Egmore museum will feature 50 rare and historically significant silambam weapons which are used in combat silambam, decorative silambam, sports silambam, fitness, and archaeological Silambam. 'These weapons were sourced from the masters of silambam from their personal collection present across the State. They trained the students of the government model school who will showcase their talent at the exhibition,' an official from the School Education Department said. Apart from the various weapons used in silambam, the exhibition will also feature palm-leaf manuscripts with silambam references. Further, 75 silambam masters who contributed to the exhibition will also speak about the art along with the students trained by them. As many as 38 government model school students from across the State will also showcase the martial art in the evening. 'They have been undergoing training for the past year as part of the holistic development of co-curricular activities that takes place in the model schools. Each school has a dedicated trainer who conducts classes three days a week,' the official added.

Sarasvati Mahal Library in Thanjavur declared a ‘library of historical and cultural importance'
The Tamil Nadu government has declared the Thanjavur Maharaja Serfoji's Sarasvati Mahal Library and Research Centre as a library of historical and cultural importance. It has also classified it as an aided library of the Tamil Nadu Public Libraries Rules, 1950. The grants for the library would have to be used for research and publications, conservation of manuscripts, library/museum upkeep and maintenance, preservation of manuscripts, digitisation of manuscripts and administration, according to a notification by the School Education Department. Also Read: Sarasvati Mahal Library in Thanjavur to undergo major restoration Tucked away inside the historic Thanjavur Palace, the Sarasvati Mahal Library is a repository of palm leaf/ paper manuscripts and books in Tamil, Sanskrit, Marathi, Telugu, Hindi, English, French, German and Italian languages. It is regarded as one of the greatest Oriental manuscript libraries in the world and among the oldest libraries in Asia. It is believed the collections of the palace library began in the 16th century under the Nayak rulers of Thanjavur (1535–1675 CE) and expanded by the Marathas. Although successive Maratha kings had maintained the library, Raja Serfoji II (1798-1832), a bibliophile, was chiefly responsible for shaping it. He is credited with having acquired several books and manuscripts. Today, it is a veritable treasure trove, with a collection of over 81,400 books and 47,500 palm leaf and paper manuscripts. The Rajah's impressive personal collection of 4,530 books also forms part of the library. The scripts used in the palm leaves are Grantha, Devanagari, Nandinagari and a few in Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Odiya. The Tamil manuscripts include rare commentaries on the Sangam works, unpublished portions of classics, Saiva, Vaishnavaite and Jain works and medicinal works of exceptional value.

Pune: Schools in Maharashtra will recite Pasayadan on August 14 to mark the 750th birth anniversary of Sant Dnyaneshwar, following a directive from the School Education Department. The move aims to give focused attention to the birth anniversary of the 13th-century saint. Pasaydan is a popular and widely known prayer in the Marathi language, composed by the 13th-century saint-poet Sant Dnyaneshwar. It's a prayer for the well-being of all beings, seeking universal peace, prosperity, and spiritual enlightenment. The prayer is considered to be beyond religion, caste, and time, making it inclusive and relevant to all. The order, issued by Undersecretary Tushar Mahajan to the Commissioner of Education, has been circulated to all government, private, Zilla Parishad, municipal, and aided schools. Several schools have already begun preparations, integrating the recitation with Independence Day activities. 'Pasayadan promotes values of peace and harmony that are vital for children,' said Rajendra Patil, teacher at ZP Primary School, Velhe. Some schools HT spoke to said they have not yet received the official communication.
