Malaysia cracks down on terror recruitment and fundraising
He stressed that authorities remain vigilant against such threats, whether involving locals or foreigners.
The minister's remarks followed the recent dismantling of the Radical Militants of Bangladesh movement by the Royal Malaysia Police.
The group was reportedly raising funds and recruiting members to support the Islamic State (IS) in Syria and Bangladesh.
'This success shows that our intelligence capabilities are at a very high level.
That is why we can address such threats, and we will never compromise when it comes to terrorism-related matters,' Saifuddin said during a press conference after the ministry's monthly assembly.
On July 4, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail disclosed that the group collected funds through annual membership fees of RM500 per person, with additional contributions based on members' financial capacity.
The group, estimated to have 100 to 150 members, mostly comprised Bangladeshi nationals working in factories, construction, and petrol stations.
Investigations revealed that recruitment was conducted through social media and messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram.
Authorities are still determining the total amount of funds sent to IS-linked groups abroad. - Bernama

He called for the continued strengthening of cross-agency cooperation—not only to sustain current achievements, but also to serve as a catalyst for more aggressive efforts to combat smuggling along the border. 'Our objective is not merely to boost seizure statistics, but to safeguard the sovereignty, security and overall well-being of the Kelantan community,' he said. He emphasised the urgent need to leverage digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance enforcement capabilities and operational efficiency, and also underscored the importance of discipline and integrity among enforcement personnel, describing them as the cornerstone of public trust in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

LAHAD DATU: Police arrested two Indonesians in separate operations for possessing drugs on Wednesday. District Police Chief, ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said, the suspects were detained following the Op Tapis conducted by the Narcotic Crime Investigation Division (BSJND) of Lahad Datu Police Headquarters. Advertisement He said, the first suspect, a 23-year-old Indonesian was detained at the Reno Fajar area about 11am. 'Inspection on the suspect found a translucent plastic containing substance believed to be Syabu weighing 0.34 grams and an aluminium foil. 'The suspect was also tested positive for taking Amphetamine and Methamphetamine,' he said. According to Dzulbaharin, about 4.30pm on the same day, the BSJND team arrested a 21-year-old Indonesian at Kampung Puyut. He said the suspect was detained after the team found a translucent plastic containing substance believed to be Syabu weighing 0.18 grams and an aluminum foil in his possession. The suspect was tested negative for taking drugs.
