District Police Chief, ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said, the suspects were detained following the Op Tapis conducted by the Narcotic Crime Investigation Division (BSJND) of Lahad Datu Police Headquarters.
Advertisement He said, the first suspect, a 23-year-old Indonesian was detained at the Reno Fajar area about 11am. 'Inspection on the suspect found a translucent plastic containing substance believed to be Syabu weighing 0.34 grams and an aluminium foil. 'The suspect was also tested positive for taking Amphetamine and Methamphetamine,' he said. According to Dzulbaharin, about 4.30pm on the same day, the BSJND team arrested a 21-year-old Indonesian at Kampung Puyut. He said the suspect was detained after the team found a translucent plastic containing substance believed to be Syabu weighing 0.18 grams and an aluminum foil in his possession. The suspect was tested negative for taking drugs. Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus meted out the sentence to Arkim Siroma who was found guilty of the charge against him on Wednesday. Advertisement The court ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt against Arkim and convicted him of the charge for having the drug at 11.20am on Oct 16, 2024 at a hill of Kg Lok Buno Sepanggar, Manggatal. The offence under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) and punishable under Section 39A(2) of the DDA provides for jail between five years and life imprisonment and whipping of at least 10 strokes of the cane, on conviction. The court ordered Arkim to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest and referred to the Immigration Department after serving the jail sentence. In mitigation, Arkim asked for leniency. However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Shafeerah Mad Iskim who conducted the prosecution, urged the court to impose a heavy sentence as the offence was serious and rampant. LAHAD DATU: The Sessions Court on Tuesday sentenced a 48-year-old religious teacher to a total of 26 years in jail and five strokes of the cane for two charges of raping a girl. Judge Suhaila Selag meted out the sentences to Basry Asang who pleaded guilty to the two charges of raping a girl. Advertisement On the first charge under Section 376 of the Penal Code, Basry was accused of raping a girl at a house in this district, between 1pm and 2pm on August 18, 2024. On the second charge under Section 377C of the Penal Code, he was accused of raping the girl at the same place on August 19, 2024. The accused was sentenced to 13 years in prison and two strokes of the cane on the first charge, and another 13 years and three strokes on the second charge. The court ordered Basry to serve the jail sentences consecutively. According to the fact of the case, the victim's family lodged a police report on August 20, 2024. The victim was later referred to the Lahad Datu Hospital for examination. A medical report later confirmed there were fresh hymen tears on the girl's private parts. Inspector Yusdi Basri, prosecuting, proposed bail at RM5,000. Kota Kinabalu: A 39-year-old woman was charged in the Magistrate's Court here with cheating a woman of RM11,820. Nur Atiqah Jessica, a contractor, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to cheating Sylvrina S. Motiung of RM11,820 by dishonestly inducing her to hand over the money between Dec 15, 2024 and March 1, this year. He objected to bail for Jamil as he is holding a temporary resident identification card (MyKAS) and offered RM5,000 bail for Nur.
