ROME — Speakers blasted songs including 'Born in the U.S.A.' and 'American Pie' as six cardinal electors from the United States gathered in Rome on Friday to share their thoughts on the election of the first U.S.-born pope, Cardinal Robert Prevost .
'I took a look at Bob and he had his head in his hands and I was praying for him,' said Cardinal Joseph Tobin of the moment right after casting his vote in the Sistine Chapel. 'And then when he accepted, it was like it was made for him.'

Ariel Kalma, French New-Age Pioneer, Dies at 78
Ariel Kalma, photo courtesy of the artist's estate and Rvng Intl. Ariel Kalma, the pioneering French new-age musician, electronic composer, and multi-instrumentalist, has died. The news was confirmed in a statement from record label Rvng Intl., who throughout the 2010s put out a compilation of Kalma's previously unreleased early recordings as well as several collaborative albums between himself and other artists. 'After contending with many health challenges over the past several years, his departure was sudden though peaceful,' it reads in part. He was 78. Born in Paris in 1947, Kalma's first instruments of choice were the recorder and saxophone. At the University of Paris he studied computer science and met the Belgian-Italian crooner Salvatore Adamo. After being invited by Adamo to join his touring band, Kalma learned how to play the flute within a week. During the late '60s and early '70s, he met and worked with bossa nova guitarist Baden Powell and, back in Paris, began to play around with ReVox reel-to-reel tape recorders. Chaining two of these machines together, Kalma was able to create analog loops of saxophone, church organ, and other instruments, layering them with poetry and found sound in his first original compositions. Time spent busking on the streets of New York City led to encounters with both free jazz trumpeter Don Cherry and godfather of American minimalism Terry Riley, but it was a one-way trip to India in 1974 that proved the genesis of Kalma's recording career proper. He later recalled a 'heart-opening' experience of being in an airplane hangar during monsoon season, which he documented on a portable tape recorder. While in India, Kalma also learned the technique of circular breathing, which allowed him to get continuous drones out of his instruments. Returning to Paris, he worked at Pierre Henry's INA-GRM Studio, frequently cited as the birthplace of modern electronic music, and self-released his debut album, Le Temps des Moissons, in 1975. Kalma released dozens of albums throughout the rest of the 20th century, and recorded even more music that never saw the light of day. Rvng Intl. gathered some of those early tape recorder compositions on 2014's An Evolutionary Music (Original Recordings: 1972 – 1979). The latter act of Kalma's career was largely defined by his collaborations with younger musicians. He worked with Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe (of Lichens and 90 Day Men) on We Know Each Other Somehow in 2015, and last year shared The Closest Thing to Silence alongside the Los Angeles experimental duo Jeremiah Chiu and Marta Sofia Honer. 'Ariel was a true maestro,' Aubrey Lowe wrote in memory of Kalma, 'a gentle, thoughtful human who maintained a wonder and enthusiasm for creative work throughout his entire life.' In an interview with The Sunday Times, Bryce explained an alleged exchange she had with Danish director Lars von Trier where he tried to use her father's job against her. Bryce starred in the 2005 drama Manderlay, a direct sequel to Dogville (2003). Bryce had replaced Nicole Kidman as Grace Margaret Mulligan from the first movie. "He started insulting me: 'Your father's a terrible film-maker,'" she remembered. "I went, 'Lars, what are you trying to see?' and he said, 'Your angry face. I don't know what it looks like.'" Bryce claimed that Lars then threw a glass of water in her face. "So I threw a glass of water in his face. He goes, 'Why did you do that?' and got up and left." She said she was actually unfazed and actually entertained by the interaction. "That was my introduction to the Lars von Trier experience, but it wasn't like I went to my room and cried or anything. I was sort of delighted by it." Björk posted another statement in the midst of #MeToo social movement, doubling down her claims while still remaining not to directly name the director. Björk wrote, "After each take the director ran up to me and wrapped his arms around me for a long time in front of all crew or alone and stroked me sometimes for minutes against my wishes," Björk wrote. "While filming in Sweden, he threatened to climb from his room's balcony over to mine in the middle of the night with a clear sexual intention, while his wife was in the room next door." In November 2017, the Guardian reported that Zentropa, the film studio co-founded by Lars and former CEO Peter Aalbæk Jensen, faced several allegations of "sexual harassment, degradation and bullying," per several Danish news publications. Romeo Beckham dating again after Kim Turnbull split
Romeo Beckham has sparked rumours that he is dating influencer Caroline Daur. The news comes days after reports surfaced that he had called it quits with former flame Kim Turnbull. According Page Six, the second-eldest son of David and Victoria Beckham and Daur were spotted leaving the same party at the Hotel Costes in Paris on Saturday night. A photographer who was at the scene claimed security "did everything" to prevent Daur from being photographed while she was in the same car as Romeo, allegedly telling the paparazzi to "f**k off". They then went to Giulia nightclub, where they partied until 2.30am. The German model and the former soccer player left the party separately. Daur, who is eight years Beckham's senior, wore a strapless black minidress and leather knee-high boots, while he dressed down in a black long-sleeved shirt, pants and trainers. The late-night outing came days after multiple reports that Beckham and his ex Turnbull had broken up after seven months of dating. A source told Us Weekly that the exes split because of the drama that has been growing within the Beckham family over the last few months. Turnbull was previously a close friend to Beckham's older brother, Brooklyn.
