Rahul Gandhi anti-national, only supports Muslims of Bangladesh, Pakistan, alleges Assam CM Himanta

Deccan Heralda day ago
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is anti-national and only supports the Muslims of Bangladesh and Pakistan..Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an election campaign meeting in Bodoland Territorial Region, Sarma also claimed that the Congress does not respect icons of Assam, like the Kamakhya temple and Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva.."Rahul Gandhi is an anti-India person. He is only with Bangladeshi and Pakistani Muslims. He is not with Indian Hindus, not even with Indian Muslims. Rahul Gandhi is an anti-national personality," Sarma alleged..He, however, did not elaborate on the reasons for branding Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, as "anti-national"..Asked about Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi's planned visit to Assam, Sarma said he has no objection to it.."I have no objection to Priyanka Gandhi coming to Assam. However, Assam's Self Help Groups' women members are 100 times more advanced than Priyanka Gandhi. Assamese women, especially those in SHGs, will defeat Priyanka Gandhi in every aspect..Malegaon probe conspiracy by Congress to frame Bhagwat, Chidamabaram should be questioned: Himanta."She won't be able to join a competition with them. Our women prepare laaru, pitha (traditional Assamese sweets), do farming in paddy fields, and send children to schools and colleges. How can Priyanka Gandhi compete with our women?" he questioned..Earlier in the day, Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi said that party MP Priyanka Gandhi has expressed willingness to visit Assam, especially Dhubri, where she had campaigned during the last Lok Sabha elections..Reacting to it, Sarma claimed, "They consider Dhubri as Assam. There is no issue in visiting Dhubri. But first one should talk about visiting Kamakhya, Batadrava, Charaideo Moidam and Rang Ghar, and then to Dhubri also."He also alleged, "They (Congress leaders) don't have faith in Maa Kamakhya, Mahapurush Sankardeva, and do not recognise Charaideo and Rang Ghar. They recognise only a section of religious minorities living in Dhubri. They don't understand the love of any other people." Stressing that he has absolutely no problem with Gandhi visiting Dhubri, Sarma claimed that Assamese people of other areas "do not have any interest" in seeing the Congress leader.."There is no problem in going to Dhubri, but she should visit other areas. However, I feel it is not the time to visit other places. Who will come to see Priyanka Gandhi? Assamese people have no interest in seeing Priyanka Gandhi," he claimed.

Gujarat HC grants relief to news anchor accused in defamation, atrocities case after complaint by senior Congress leader

The Gujarat High Court on Monday granted relief to an Ahmedabad-based news anchor in a case of defamation and atrocity, filed by Congress leader Dr Tushar Chaudhary, based on the assurance of the Additional Public Prosecutor that the journalist will be served a notice of 15 days in case the investigating officer deems it appropriate to arrest her. Justice Nirzar Desai was hearing the petition by Gopi Maniar-Ghanghar, anchor of Ahmedabad-based Nirbhay News Channel, for quashing and setting aside the FIR lodged at Tapi District, based on Chaudhary's complaint under Section 356 (Defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and various sections of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. Chaudhary is the newly appointed Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader in Gujarat Assembly. The court order stated, 'Public Prosecutor Hardik Dave has made a statement before this Court upon instructions received by the Nikita Shiroya (SC/ST Cell Tapi Vyara) that… the investigation is at very initial stage and therefore, it would serve the end of justice if this Court records the statement of learned Public Prosecutor that in case, during the course of investigation, if the investigating officer deems it appropriate to arrest the present applicant, she will be given a clear notice of fifteen days and upon receipt of the notice…' The court further said, 'The applicant would be at liberty to avail appropriate remedy so as to take remedial measure to seek relief against her proposed arrest. Such a period would start from the date of receipt of the notice by the present applicant.' Chaudhary's complaint is also against Jagdish Mehta, group editor of Rajkot-based Headlines News channel. Chaudhary has alleged that the journalists had defamed him and his deceased father, former Gujarat Chief Minister Amarsinh Chaudhary. In the FIR, the Congress MLA from Khedbrahma has alleged that in a show aired on July 22 on Nirbhay News, Ghanghar made an objectionable statement against him. He said Mehta consented to the statements, which were 'defamatory for him and the entire tribal community'. Ghanghar's advocate Utkarsh Dave said, '…Ghanghar… was the interviewer, who does not have control over what the other person is going to say… We will proceed with legal remedy in case the notice for arrest is issued.'

Congress leaders speak in different voices on Trump's tariff threat

Congress leaders on Monday spoke in different voices on the issue of U.S. President Donald Trump's latest comment on imposing higher tariffs for buying Russian oil. 'So much for Howdy Modi. So much for Namaste Trump. So much for Ab ki Baar Trump Sarkar. So much for BJP MPs hailing Narendra Modi as India's trump card,' party's communications chief Jairam Ramesh posted on X. 'This is what happens when foreign policy becomes about image building, not national interest,' Mr. Ramesh added. His party colleague, Manish Tewari, tagging President Trump on X, asked the American President not to lose his sleep over it. 'We have enough resilience as a nation to withstand your Tariff threat,' he added. Former Union Minister Anand Sharma noted that the U.S. President's comments on 'India and its economy was belittling and unacceptable'. 'As the fourth largest economy, India has resilience & inherent strength to engage with the world on principles of equality & mutual respect,' Mr. Sharma posted on X.
