PM Modi to visit Gujarat on May 26-27, will launch projects worth over Rs 77,000 crore
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Gujarat on May 26 and 27, during which he will launch and inaugurate a series of development projects across Dahod, Bhuj, and Gandhinagar, cumulatively worth more than Rs 77,000 crore.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, the Prime Minister will begin his Gujarat tour in Dahod on May 26, where he is scheduled to arrive around 11:15 a.m.
In a boost to the Make in India initiative, he will dedicate to the nation the Indian Railways' Locomotive Manufacturing Plant, which will produce 9,000 HP electric locomotives for both domestic use and export. He will also flag off the first electric locomotive manufactured at the plant.
These high-powered locomotives, equipped with regenerative braking systems, are expected to enhance Indian Railways' freight capacity while promoting energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. In addition, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for development projects worth around Rs 24,000 crore in Dahod.
These include major railway infrastructure works and initiatives led by the Government of Gujarat. He is also expected to flag off a new Vande Bharat Express between Veraval and Ahmedabad, further improving regional connectivity. Later in the afternoon, the Prime Minister will travel to Bhuj, where he is scheduled to arrive at 4 p.m.
There, he will launch and inaugurate a series of projects exceeding Rs 53,400 crore in investment value. He will also address a public gathering, focusing on the region's development trajectory.
On May 27, PM Modi will be in Gandhinagar to participate in the 20-year celebration of Gujarat's Urban Growth Story. The event, scheduled for 11 a.m., will also mark the launch of Urban Development Year 2025. The Prime Minister is expected to address urban stakeholders and officials at the event.

The Foreign Secretary will also meet with leading figures in Indian business to discuss how we can unlock even greater investment by Indian business in the UK. Our investment relationship supports over 600,000 jobs across both countries, with over 950 Indian-owned companies in the UK and over 650 UK companies in India. In 2023-24, India was the UK's second largest source of investments in terms of number of projects for the fifth consecutive year. Talks will also take stock of progress, following a commitment by the UK and Indian Prime Ministers to take forward an ambitious UK-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The trade deal is a key example of the progress being made since the last meeting between the Foreign Secretary and his Indian counterpart. It follows the signing of the UK-India Programme of Cultural Cooperation Agreement in May and pounds 400 million of trade and investment wins boosting the British and the Indian economy at the Economic and Financial Dialogue in April. The Foreign Secretary is also expected to address the recent escalation in tensions following the Pahalgam terrorist attack and how the welcomed sustained period of peace can be best supported in the interests of stability in the region. On May 2, the UK and India signed a new UK-India Programme of Cultural Cooperation to boost collaboration across the arts and culture, creative industries, tourism and sport sectors. The agreement will open the door for increased UK creative exports to India and enable more partnerships between UK and Indian museums and cultural institutions, helping to grow UK soft power. At the 13th UK-India Economic and Financial Dialogue (EFD) in April, Chancellor Rachel Reeves welcomed pounds 400 million of trade and investment wins set to boost the British and the Indian economy and deliver economic growth and security for working people. ‘Shows apathy': Allahabad HC raps UP government for delay in disbursing Kumbh stampede compensation
The Allahabad High Court on Friday said that the delay in disbursing compensation to the families of those who died during a stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela pilgrimage site in Prayagraj showed the Uttar Pradesh government's 'apathy to the plight of the citizens', Live Law reported. A bench of Justices Saumitra Dayal Singh and Sandeep Jain also directed the state government to furnish details of the deaths and medical handling of those who died or were injured between January 28 and the end of the pilgrimage. The Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state was also told to submit details of the number of compensation claims it had received and settled, and those that are pending. The stampede had broken out at the Maha Kumbh on January 29 as a large number of pilgrims arrived to take a holy bath on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya, a spiritually significant day in the Hindu calendar. The state government has said that at least 30 persons were killed and 60 others were injured, although several media reports have suggested that the actual toll could be significantly higher. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath had announced financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh for those who died in the stampede. The court was hearing a plea filed by the husband of one of the persons who died. It expressed concern that the woman's body had been handed over to her family without a postmortem being conducted. The judges took note of the serious injuries reported on the woman, including a crushed rib cage, and questioned the lack of official documentation or communication with the family regarding the cause and circumstances of the death, Live Law reported. The bench directed that medical institutions and authorities in Prayagraj be made parties to the petitions and directed them to file affidavits disclosing details of all patients and dead bodies that may have been brought to the facilities and those dispatched by them between the incident and the end of the Mela. The bench was alarmed that the woman's body was handed over to the family in February but compensation was yet to be provided, according to Live Law.
