(WIVT/WBGH) – The legacy of a little boy who touched the hearts of Greater Binghamton continues with a fundraiser to benefit pediatric cancer victims this weekend.
4-year-old Cooper Busch died of leukemia in 2018. During his fight with the disease, he captured the attention of the local community with his infectious smile and outgoing personality.
That lead to an outpouring of support for his family which decided to keep the momentum going after his passing.
The Busch family and friends established the Super Cooper Saves the Day charity, which each year raises about $50,000 to support pediatric cancer patients at Golisano Children's Hospital in Syracuse.
Its major fundraiser is the annual Cooperpalooza which takes place on Saturday at Touch of Texas on Upper Front Street.
'I can't really put it into words what it's like for the whole entire community to be supporting you like that. There's nothing like it. You can't experience that until you've experienced something truly awful. So, I don't want people to have to experience that. But, in a way, we got to see the best in people because we have been through such a difficult time. So, we just want to make sure that anybody that's going through a difficult time like we went, has the support,' said Super Cooper Saves the Day President Tara Busch.
Busch says her organization also funds meals for patients and their families each week at Golisano.
Cooperpalooza runs from noon until 4 on Saturday at Touch of Texas.
Admission is free and there will be tons of raffle baskets and lots of kid's activities, all set up in a carnival like atmosphere.

Good Night, and Good Luck viewers make surprise discovery while tuning in to see George Clooney live on CNN

Viewers tuning in to see George Clooney star in Good Night, and Good Luck live on CNN were surprised to recognize another actor in the production. CNN is airing the production live from the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City. The telecast marks the first time in history a Broadway show has been broadcast live on national television. More than 20 cameras were positioned throughout the theater to bring audiences at home, CNN correspondent Anderson Cooper said while introducing the play. Clooney, nominated for a Tony Award for his Broadway debut performance, plays legendary journalist Edward R. Murrow. The play — adapted from the 2005 film of the same name which Clooney directed, co-wrote the screenplay for, and starred in as television producer Fred Friendly — follows Murrow's historic on-air showdown with Senator Joseph McCarthy. In addition to Clooney, the cast also featured comedian Ilana Glazer, Mac Brandt, Will Dagger, Christopher Denham, Glenn Fleshler, Clark Gregg, Paul Gross, Georgia Heers, Carter Hudson, Fran Kranz, Jennifer Morris, Michael Nathanson, Andrew Polk, Aaron Roman Weiner, R. Ward Duffy, Joe Forbrich, Imani Rousselle, Greg Stuhr, JD Taylor, and Sophia Tzougros. Many fans didn't realize Glazer was in the production and were pleasantly surprised by the discovery. Glazer, known for co-creating the Comedy Central show Broad City, plays producer and writer Shirley Wershba. 'Oh wow Ilana Glazer is in this Good Night & Good Luck play ? that's awesome,' one fan wrote on X. 'Since when is ilana glazer in good night and good luck on broadway?????????????' another questioned. 'How'd i not know ilana glazer was in the george clooney play,' a third wrote. But fans were also surprised by the relevance the story — specifically Clooney's dialogue — has today. 'You need to stop whatever you are doing and watch :Good Night and Good Luck' right now. So much of this dialogue perfectly ensconce the current Trump administration,' one viewer wrote on X. 'Excellent social commentary. Thank you CNN. And thank you George Clooney,' someone else shared. 'Beautiful moment from George Clooney on Good Night and Good Luck! Certainly, the speech is so relevant today!' another noted. When CNN announced the live broadcast, Clooney said: 'I can't tell you how exciting it is to do something that's never been done. CNN is the perfect place to bring this story of courage to so many more people than we could have ever hoped. Live TV. No net. Buckle up everyone.' Fans seemed to echo that sentiment as the broadcast began, commenting on the accessibility factor of bringing Broadway to living rooms across the country. 'Really enjoying watching Good Night, and Good Luck on CNN. I think it's such a great thing to make theater, to make Broadway, more accessible to everyone. And this play is so relevant to what's happening in the world, especially here in the US, right now,' one person wrote on X. 'This live broadcast of Good Night and Good Luck is great so far, and i hope it leads to even more Broadway on TV. smartly timed for the end of a limited run that's well beyond recoupment, and accessible to those who are outside NYC and/or couldn't afford those ticket prices,' another said. 'Watching Good Night and Good Luck live is genuinely so cool! Love when live theater is made accessible!!!' a third chimed in. 'Good Night, and Good Luck Live is just proving that theatre SHOULD be regularly broadcasted or made available to stream ... I would love to watch something from the west end or Broadway every other Saturday like DO THIS MORE,' someone else wrote. Good Night, and Good Luck opened April 3 on Broadway for a limited run. The production, which earned five Tony nominations, closes June 8. Saturday night's live broadcast was executive produced by Clooney, Grant Heslov, Deena Katz, Todd Wagner, and Jeff Skoll. The production is directed by Tony winner David Cromer.

Where Can I Stream 'Good Night, and Good Luck'? How to Watch George Clooney's Broadway Play Live from Home

George Clooney's Good Night, and Good Luck will air on CNN on June 7 It will be the first Broadway play to be televised Good Night, and Good Luck is an adaptation from Clooney's 2005 Oscar-winning film of the same nameGeorge Clooney is making history with his five-time Tony-nominated play Good Night, and Good Luck. On Saturday, June 7, at 7 p.m. ET, CNN will air his stage adaptation of the 2005 film of the same name — marking the first-ever televised Broadway performance. 'I can't tell you how exciting it is to do something that's never been done,' the Wolfs star said in a statement. 'CNN is the perfect place to bring this story of courage to so many more people than we could have ever hoped. Live TV. No net. Buckle up everyone.' Good Night, and Good Luck chronicles CBS journalist Edward R. Murrow's pivotal 1954 broadcast challenging Senator Joseph McCarthy, which helped turn public opinion against his anti-Communist campaign. Though Clooney played producer Fred Friendly in the 2005 film, he stars as Murrow in the stage production. The cast also includes Clark Gregg, Ilana Glazer, Glenn Fleshler and Carter Hudson. The play, which opened in April 2025 at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City, marks the Oscar-winning actor's first time on Broadway. Here's everything to know about George Clooney's play Good Night, and Good Luck, including the plot and how to watch it live on TV. Set in the 1950s, Good Night, and Good Luck recounts the real-life CBS broadcast that contributed to the downfall of Senator McCarthy. Murrow challenged the politician's fear-mongering tactics on-air, calling out his tendency to label anyone who opposed him — including the journalist himself — a communist. The story originated in Clooney's 2005 Oscar-nominated film, which he co-wrote, directed and starred in. He again partnered with co-writer Grant Heslov to pen the Broadway adaptation. Good Night, and Good Luck will be televised on CNN on June 7 at 7 p.m. ET. Viewers can tune in on CNN, CNN International and with no cable login required. The show will also air live on Max. The night will kick off with host Pamela Brown's pre-show coverage at 6:30 p.m. outside of the Winter Garden Theatre, followed by the live play which runs for approximately one hour and 40 minutes with no intermission. The broadcast will end with an exclusive post-show special hosted by Anderson Cooper to discuss the production and the state of global journalism. 'You want it to be a big event. You want it to land big,' CNN Originals' executive vice president of talent Amy Entelis told The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the broadcast. If you're craving more, the original movie is available for purchase on AppleTV, Prime Video and YouTube. Yes, Good Night, and Good Luck is based on the real-life conflict between Murrow and Senator McCarthy and the CBS broadcast that helped expose him. In 1954, Murrow reported on the Red Scare and the Wisconsin senator's role in fueling the hysteria as chair of the Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. 'The actions of the junior senator from Wisconsin have caused alarm and dismay amongst our allies abroad and given considerable comfort to our enemies,' Murrow said during the now-infamous See It Now episode examining McCarthy's methods, per CBS. He continued, 'And whose fault is that? Not really his. He didn't create this situation of fear; he merely exploited it — and rather successfully.' Following the broadcast, McCarthy accused Murrow of engaging in Communist propaganda, which Murrow denied. The response only accelerated McCarthy's downfall. He was formally censured by the Senate in December 1954 for abusing his committee powers, effectively ending his political influence. He died three years later of acute hepatic failure, per The New York Times. In addition to Clooney, who plays Murrow in the stage production, Good Night, and Good Luck features a stellar cast portraying the real-life people behind the landmark broadcast. The political drama stars Fleshler as See It Now coproducer Fred Friendly, Gregg as CBS journalist Don Hollenbeck, Hudson as CBS correspondent Joe Wershba and Glazer as CBS journalist Shirley Wershba. While portraying Shirley, the Broad City alum met her real-life counterpart, the only person from Murrow's CBS team still alive. 'Shirley Wershba is not a household name, but she's a founding foremother of broadcast journalism,' Glazer captioned a series of Instagram pictures from their meeting in May 2025. 'Shirley's zest for life, curiosity and strength was infectious.' Good Night, and Good Luck closes its theatrical run on June 8. There are two shows (a matinee and an evening performance) on June 7, the latter of which will be televised live on CNN. The show's final run will be a matinee the following day. Tickets for live performances are still available and can be purchased on the production's website. In a February 2025 appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the actor said he was inspired to write the original movie after he was called a traitor for 'being against the war in Iraq.' "Forever, we've had this issue where power kind of hates the fourth estate, they hate journalism,' he said, noting that his father worked in broadcast news. 'We've always believed in the idea that when the other three estates — the judiciary branch, the executive branch [and the legislative branch] — when they all fail you, you need that fourth estate.'
