Shashi Tharoor Lauds Kesari 2, Jokes About A 'Certain Four-Letter Word Shankaran Nair Would Never Use'

News1827-04-2025

Shashi Tharoor praised Akshay Kumar's Kesari 2 for its high-quality production and storytelling, highlighting its message about British atrocities and the need for an apology.
Indian National Congress MP Shashi Tharoor recently shared his take on Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan and Ananya Panday's Kesari: Chapter 2. The politician lauded the film, emphasising that it was 'well-crafted". Speaking about the F-word used by Akshay Kumar in the film, Tharoor playfully mentioned that though Sir Chettur Shankaran Nair would never use it, the message and the intent of the makers came across loud and clear.
Shashi Tharoor praised Kesari 2 and said, 'It [The makers] took some liberties with historical facts but it says in the very beginning that it's fiction. But what it did was capture the spirit of resistance, especially using the instruments of the British court system."
He continued, 'But the message of the film was brilliantly done. It was a very high-quality production. The acting, direction, the way the story unfolded, everything was so compelling. There wasn't a single dull moment. I was worried that many people were seeing courtroom scenes which might not be so compelling but the way the story came out, it was impossible to turn away your eyes for one second."
During a segment of Kesari: Chapter 2, Akshay as fearless lawyer C Sankaran Nair is seen in a British courtroom where a judge says, 'Don't forget you're still a slave of the British Empire." To this, Nair sharply replies, 'F* you." Tharoor mentioned this on a lighter note, and added that he has been a huge admirer of Nair. 'I am fan of Sir Chettur Shankaran Nair for a long time and I, in fact, 8 years ago, in Thiruvananthapuram, I delivered a speech where I was talking about his life and achievements. Though some of this romanticises him in a very positive way, I think the fact that he was a man of courage, principle and integrity, comes through. He would never use some of the words Akshay Kumar uses, particular a certain four-letter word, I can tell you for sure (laughs), but the spirit, the message and some of the clever ways the message was allowed to come across was extremely well-done."

Tharoor further referenced his book and said that the film delivers a core message – the British Empire never really apologised for their barbaric act. 'We need films to remind people of some of the atrocities that were inflicted in Jallianwala Bagh in particular of the British Raj. I wrote my book about the empire, Inglorious Empire, and when I did a book tour in the UK, the point I made very strongly was the need for an apology for the massacre. And I am glad that at the end of the film, they made the point in the screen that the one thing the British have never done is say sorry," he said.
The author-politician also mentioned, 'On the 100th anniversary in 2019, the Prime Minister did speak in the House of Commons but what all she said was that they regret the events they did. That's not the same as an apology and this film is a reminder to the British and to all of us that an apology is still due."
He summed up by congratulating the film's team for their efforts. 'My congratulations to the film's makers, they have done a wonderful job and I certainly would not hesitate to recommend this film to audiences across the country and with sub-titles to the English as well," he concluded.
Kesari Chapter 2, directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, follows the true story of nationalist-lawyer C Sankaran Nair, a prominent lawyer and former President of the Indian National Congress, who dared to legally challenge the British Raj over the brutal 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The film released on April 18.

Priyanka Chopra On Working With John Cena & Idris Elba In Heads Of State: 'I Didn't Feel Left Out At All'

Priyanka Chopra on working with John Cena & Idris Elba in Heads of State: 'It wasn't like high school… I had a great time.' Premieres July 2 on Prime Video. When John Cena and Idris Elba team up, chaos is inevitable — but with Priyanka Chopra Jonas entering the scene, it transforms into full-blown cinematic mayhem. Their latest film Heads of State, set to premiere globally on Prime Video on July 2, brings together this high-powered trio in an action-comedy packed with slick suits, sharp dialogue, and global political pandemonium. After their unforgettable camaraderie in The Suicide Squad (2021), Cena and Elba reunite — this time as President of the United States Will Deringer and British Prime Minister Sam Clarke. Priyanka Chopra steps into the fray as MI6 agent Noel Bisset, bringing both edge and elegance to the explosive ensemble. Reflecting on her experience filming alongside the two powerhouse stars, Priyanka shared, 'Oh, it was amazing. I didn't feel left out at all. It wasn't like… It wasn't like it was high school. They wanted to work together when they did Suicide Squad, and that's where the inception of the movie came about. And Peter Safran (Producer) was like, we've got to bottle and sell this. So I'm just really happy to be on the ride with them and be the only girl in this, like, really masculine energy. I had a great time." Directed by Ilya Naishuller, the mind behind Nobody, the film boasts a star-studded supporting cast including Paddy Considine, Stephen Root, Carla Gugino, Jack Quaid, and Sarah Niles. With its high-octane set pieces, razor-sharp banter, and political satire, Heads of State is shaping up to be a summer blockbuster with global appeal. The movie will stream in multiple languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. Ahead of its release, Priyanka hosted an intimate screening for her family and close friends. Early reactions have been glowing with praise. One attendee called it a must-see and lauded Priyanka's performance, while another described the film as terrific and congratulated her personally. Others shared their enthusiasm online, urging viewers not to miss the film when it drops on Prime Video. Priyanka reposted many of these reactions on her Instagram Stories, giving fans a preview of the buzz building around the movie. The trailer teases a blend of international espionage, high-stakes diplomacy, and unapologetic comedy, with Priyanka leading some of the most thrilling sequences. Produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Heads of State fuses political absurdity with blockbuster energy — a slick, fast-paced film with global stakes. Beyond Heads of State, Priyanka Chopra continues to expand her global acting footprint. She is set to star in SSMB 29, directed by SS Rajamouli and co-starring Mahesh Babu — a project that marks her first collaboration with the legendary filmmaker. She is also preparing for The Bluff, a swashbuckling adventure set in the 19th-century Caribbean, in which she plays a former pirate forced to confront her past to protect her family. The film also features Karl Urban and Ismael Cruz Córdova. First Published:

'I would love to avenge the loss': Jake Paul eyes revenge as Tommy Fury hints at rematch within a year

Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury (via Getty Images) Jake Paul is still committed to avenging his sole career loss, and Tommy Fury has just added further fuel to the frenzy by announcing that a lucrative rematch may be on the cards in the next 12 months. The longstanding animosity between the YouTuber-turned-boxer and the undefeated British boxer is back in the limelight, with both teams making new remarks regarding facing each other for a second time. Tommy Fury confident about inevitable Jake Paul rematch as tensions continue to escalate Tommy Fury, who beat Jake Paul last year in a highly competitive bout, says a rematch is not only possible but is coming soon. The 26-year-old British boxer guested on Eddie Hall's The Good, The Bad & The Beast podcast and claimed that a rematch is "always going to be there" due to the unfinished business and huge public appetite surrounding their feud. The two first met in February 2023 in Saudi Arabia, with Tommy Fury winning through split decision. The highly dramatic and hyped fight concluded with Jake Paul suffering his first career loss—a move he has categorically stated he "1000 percent" wishes to overturn. Despite rumors earlier this year that Tommy Fury rejected several offers—including a rumored $6 million offer to fight Jake Paul on Netflix—Fury now claims to be willing to do the rematch, but only on his terms. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Container Houses Vietnam (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search Ads Search Now Undo "There is just no way because I know what I am capable of. And when I fought him the first time, that was not 60 percent of what I am capable of. I think that fight will happen in the next 12 months. I will be ready for that fight. And if he wants to try and change what happened the last time, he can try, but it ain't going to work," Fury said. Jake Paul, for his part, isn't denying the possibility either. While preparing for his return to the ring this weekend against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Paul acknowledged his interest: 'I would love to avenge the loss 1000 percent, but there are 15 people with massive names waiting to fight me, and also the goal is to become world champion. I won Knockout of the year, most fight, most watched fight ever. The only thing left to do in the sport is to become world champion. ' Paul also claimed Tommy Fury had 'outpriced himself' and said, 'I'm the only thing that Tommy has. I don't need Tommy." "Jake might have been more active than I recently, but you can't get better fighting 60-year-old men. I do not care who you are. At 60, you are not who you were. For him (Paul) to get better, he needs fights like he had with me. And I know if I fought him now, I would do the same thing to him. He has got the L. I am not chasing the fight. The only fight that matters is me. Everybody knows that. He has one loss on that record and that is to me," Fury needled, referencing Paul's previous opponent, 58-year-old Mike Tyson. Fury made a point to say that he is only seeking "big fights" anymore and confirmed that Jake Paul is still one of the top contenders on his list. "What's next for me? I think the big fights are looming. I think they are always going to be there because history is there. I am getting used to fighting again. Whatever fight comes to be honest." Also read: Jake Paul confesses early boxing career earned him financial setbacks amid recent $40 million annual income While Jake Paul prepares to return to the ring and Tommy Fury looks to fight his way into a headliner, the threat of a rematch hangs over them bigger than ever before. After their initial bout was already one of the most viewed boxing contests in recent years, a sequel is just what the sport—and its crossover audience—may be clamoring for. One thing is certain: both men have unfinished business, and the next 12 months could witness it being resolved in the ring again. Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story.
