AMC cutting ticket prices by 50% on Wednesdays for members
(NewsNation) — Members of AMC Theatres' loyalty program will soon see their movie ticket costs cut in half on Wednesdays, the movie theater chain announced Monday.
Those enrolled in the AMC Stubs program — which also offers a free tier, AMC Insider — will get 50% off tickets on Wednesdays starting on July 9.
AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron points to booming box office earnings for the new deal.
'Realistically, we could not afford to have made this change to our ticket pricing strategy until the box office showed true signs of sustained recovery,' Aron said in a statement. 'But in April and now in May, the box office has been booming, and the remainder of 2025 appears poised to continue that upward box office trend.'

'A Minecraft Movie,' 'Sinners' and 'Thunderbolts' brought the year-to-date box office takings up around 16% from last year, according to Comscore data.
The initiative is in addition to deals offered on 'Discount Tuesdays,' which Aron called a massive success for the company — one they hope to replicate.
'With the introduction by AMC of 50% off Wednesdays, we're looking to turn Wednesday into a similarly strong-attendance day for moviegoers at our theatres,' Aron said.

Though family audiences were initially slow to return after the pandemic, movies that appeal to those theatergoers have proven to be box office juggernauts. Last summer, Disney and Pixar's 'Inside Out 2' and Universal and Illumination Entertainment's 'Despicable Me 4' drove theater revenues at a time when the industry was collectively wringing its hands after a slow Memorial Day weekend. This summer, 'How to Train Your Dragon' and 'Lilo & Stitch' are demonstrating the power of the hybrid film, which combines live actors with computer-animated creatures — a strategy that has proved valuable, said David A. Gross, who writes movie industry newsletter FranchiseRe. The trend began back in 1988 with Robert Zemeckis' 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit,' but has seen recent success with films like Paramount's 'Sonic the Hedgehog' franchise and StudioCanal's 'Paddington' movies. Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan are in very different parts of their Marvel careers, but the former face of Captain America and the Winter Soldier/Thunderbolts* star have discussed a significant potential reunion. While Evans has been adamant that he's retired from the role of Captain America, it's worth noting that if he and Stan do run it back and team up again, it'll happen in a very different format—with the duo moving from the big screen to performing in front of live audiences.
