Chirag Paswan may contest Bihar Assembly elections, hints LJP MP
In a significant political development ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP Arun Bharti has hinted that Union Minister and his party chief Chirag Paswan is preparing to re-enter Bihar's state politics and is likely to contest the elections.
Bharti, the MP from the Jamui constituency, is Paswan's brother-in-law and hinted about the strategic shift in a detailed post on the social media platform X.
Arun Bharti emphasised that Chirag Paswan's political focus has always been Bihar, citing the party chief's long-standing slogan "Bihar First, Bihari First".
According to Bharti, Chirag's active leadership in the state is essential for realising the vision of a developed and self-reliant Bihar.
'This is possible only when he himself stays in Bihar and leads,' Bharti wrote.
Arun Bharti, who has been touring the state as a party in-charge, claimed that during his visits to villages and districts, a common sentiment emerged among workers and citizens -- a demand for Chirag Paswan to contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
Notably, a unanimous resolution was recently passed in the LJP (Ram Vilas) executive meeting, urging Chirag to take the electoral plunge and lead from the front.
In a crucial political message, Arun Bharti indicated that Chirag Paswan should contest from a general seat instead of a reserved constituency, underscoring a shift in his political positioning.
"This time, Chirag should contest not from a reserved seat, but from a general seat - to send the message that he is prepared to lead not just one class but the entire state,' he added.
The social media post positions Chirag Paswan not just as a party leader, but as 'the hope of all of Bihar', aiming to redefine the politics of social justice, not only through representation but also by fighting for broader societal acceptance.
"When the leader is of the whole of Bihar, why should the scope of the seat be limited?" Bharti wrote.
If Chirag Paswan decides to contest the Assembly polls, especially from a general seat, it would mark a major shift in the state's political landscape.

In a significant decision ahead of Bihar Assembly polls, due later this year, Bihar has increased sanction amount MNREGA by a mukhiya from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. A mukhiya will have to seek any administrative approval for sanctioning amount up to `10 lakh in a financial year. Allowances for Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) would be also increased. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar announced this at a meeting of mukhiyas and PRIs. The matter is subject to cabinet approval later. Bihar has three-tier Panchayati Raj institutions — village panchayat (8053), panchayat samits (533) and zila parishad (38). The CM also said allowances of zila parishad president and vice presidents, mukhiyas, sarpanchs and ward members would be increased. Monthly allowance of zila parishad president was increased from Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000. A zila parishad vice president's allowance goes up from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15000. A mukhiya's allowance was increased to Rs 7,500 from Rs 5,000. Panchayati Raj department secretary Manoj Kumar told reporters that a panchayat representative's family would get ex-gratia compensation of Rs 5 lakh in case of accident death or normal death in service years.

Bihar polls: INDIA bloc says it will expose failures of Nitish Kumar's govt.
A meeting of the INDIA bloc's coordination committee for the Bihar Assembly election was held at the official residence of Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav in Patna on Thursday (June 12, 2025). Mr. Yadav, who is the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, also heads the committee. Top leaders of the alliance, including Bihar Congress in-charge Krishna Alavaru, Bihar Congress president Rajesh Kumar, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) and senior leaders of the Left parties, were present. In the meeting, various points were discussed regarding establishing mutual cooperation and coordination among all the constituent parties for the upcoming Bihar Assembly election. A senior leader who attended the meeting told The Hindu, 'Before the next meeting, the parties involved in the INDIA bloc have been asked to provide details of the seats on which they want to contest the Assembly election.' Rajya Sabha member and senior RJD leader Manoj Jha said, 'Five sub-coordination committees have been formed. These committees will look into the manifesto, media, social media and campaign strategy and election-related issues, including legal issues. Representatives of constituent parties have been included in these committees.' He added, 'It was also decided to launch a joint programme against the Nitish Kumar-led State government at the block, district and panchayat levels. Jointly, we will expose how the State government has failed on every front.' Asked about the seat-sharing formula among the six parties, Mr. Jha said, 'Seat sharing was not discussed today and the only formula is to bring a change in the State.' Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLA Ajay Kumar for the first time made a direct statement about the CM face of the INDIA bloc when asked about it. 'The chairperson of INDIA bloc is Tejashwi Yadav. What are you looking for in this now? You also know it,' Mr. Kumar said. Even VIP chief Mukesh Sahani said that there is no confusion about the CM face and Tejashwi Yadav is accepted by all the parties in the alliance. Mr. Yadav leads the coordination committee which has 21 members from six parties. Bihar Janata Dal (United) president Umesh Singh Kushwaha issued a statement saying that the 'so-called unity' of the alliance is based on the weak foundations of selfishness and opportunism. 'No concrete result will come out of such meetings because the public knows the reality of the Opposition. It is not hidden from anyone that personal interest has been the top priority of the mahagathbandhan instead of public interest,' he said. He added, 'The Congress and the RJD got the opportunity to hold power in Bihar for a long time, but the irony is that both the parties always avoided discussing any achievements during their tenure, because while in power, they showed more interest in filling their coffers instead of working for the public.' He also alleged that the entire politics of the Opposition has been limited to promoting their family members. 'The NDA government under the leadership of Nitish Kumar has a track record of good governance and all-round development. This is the reason that the people of the State still have unwavering faith in our leader Nitish Kumar,' Mr. Kushwaha said.

The decision was taken during the state working committee meeting chaired by state president Raju Tiwari and attended by the party's Bihar in charge, Arun Bharti, who is also Chirag's brother-in-law. The LJP last made a significant impact in the Feb-March 2005 assembly elections when it won 29 seats after contesting 178. It played the role of "kingmaker" but chose not to support either the RJD-led alliance or the NDA under Nitish, which eventually led to President's Rule. Six months later, the NDA formed the govt following the by-elections.
