Shimla: Chief minister
Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu
on Friday offered prayers at the historic Jakhu temple here and took part in the installation ceremony of a 108-feet-high Hanuman dhwaja (flag) on the temple premises.
Jakhu temple holds deep spiritual significance. It is a symbol of collective faith of the people, and is home to the tallest statue of Lord Hanuman, said Sukhu.
A statue of Lord Ram is also being installed at the temple complex; however, certain procedural challenges related to the Forest Conservation Act (FCA) are being addressed to facilitate the installation, said the CM.
"The state govt aims to improve basic amenities for devotees visiting Jakhu temple, including better parking, seating arrangements, and other facilities, while ensuring ecological balance," said Sukhu.
Replying to a question, the CM said the state govt was working round-the-clock to provide relief and rehabilitation to the people affected by natural disasters, and even the leader of the opposition was in constant touch with him, as his constituency Seraj suffered extensive damages.
Rest houses for public
CM Sukhu on Friday said many govt rest houses were being made available to the general public at uniform rates through online bookings, and the remaining rest houses would be integrated with the online booking system soon.

Invite to VCs part of saffronising universities: Govindan

Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary M V Govindan said it was shameful for vice-chancellors to attend an RSS-organised Gyan Sabha attended by its chief Mohan Bhagawat. Speaking at a news conference on Friday, Govindan said the party would strongly oppose VCs attending the event aimed at continuing the state's saffronisation or communalisation. Inviting VCs was part of continuing saffronisation of universities, he added. "When EMS Namboodiripad was the chief minister, Kerala University vice-chancellor sought an appointment. But EMS said CM should ideally visit the VC. This is the tradition from which we come. But now, VCs are taking part in RSS meetings with enthusiasm. We strongly condemn this," he said. "Governor's saffronisation move has reached Sanskrit University. RSS members are notified as members of the syndicate. In Calicut and Veterinary University, the governor wants to induct Sangh Parivar members," Govindan said. Students' unions are protesting but UDF is not doing anything against saffronisation, something to be noted, he said. UDF seems ready to join hands with any religious supporters to weaken LDF, he alleged. Stating that state should be aware of the agenda, Govindan said society in general, democratic organisations and those inclined towards democracy are protesting against communalisation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top 15 World's Prettiest Star In The History Half Eddie Read More Undo Govindan said US President Donald Trump urging companies not to employ Indians and the Indo-UK deal, which cut import duties, will adversely affect Kerala. "Trump's declaration violates personal rights and is unsuitable for a modern society. Kerala will be affected the most because educated youth work in different sectors across the world. Jobs are being denied to them. Despite such heinous decisions by US, including on tariffs, Indian govt is towing the line of imperialists. The India-UK agreement, which has come into force, will impact state's general and agri economy," he said. "As per the agreement, import tariff will come down from 15% to 3%. This will affect Kerala in the long run. It will lead to uncontrolled imports to the country, including to Kerala. Despite this, central govt decided not to do anything about this," he added. Meanwhile, Fraternity Movement, the students' wing of Welfare Party, of Jamaat-e-Islami, said they would resort to strong protests if the vice-chancellors attended the RSS meet. In a statement, Fraternity Movement said they wouldn't allow the 'Hindutva-ization' of higher education sector.

Fear grips AAP workers over land pooling push

Jalandhar: A confrontation in Kot Kalan village here on Thursday night, where farmers burned Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) publicity material and confronted two party workers, has left AAP campaigners apprehensive about promoting the controversial land pooling policy in rural areas. On Friday evening, representatives from six villages whose land is earmarked for the pooling scheme reiterated their refusal to surrender their land. Gathering at Kot Kalan, they issued a stern warning to AAP workers, stating that anyone attempting to advocate for the policy in their villages would be responsible for the unsavoury situation and consequences. According to AAP insiders, the local-level office bearers in Jalandhar and other areas of the state find themselves in a catch-22 situation. While the party high command has issued clear directives to engage with farmers and explain the policy, ground workers fear hostile receptions. "There are sections within the party who are worried that if the party office bearers or workers face a hostile situation in a village, and as such incidents are invariably filmed, it can lead to embarrassment not only for the involved party members but can provide material for more negative propaganda on social media to the opposition parties, as well as several Punjabi activists and netizens who are zealously contributing to the counter-narrative against the policy," said an AAP insider. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo BOX Kukkar Pind passes resolution against policy According to the advertisement issued by the state govt on June 6, 1,000 acres of land from six villages - Kukkar Pind, Kot Khurd, Kot Kalan, Rehmanpur, Alipur, and Nangal Krar Khan – come under land pooling. Around 700 acres of these are from Kukkar Pind alone. A 'gram sabha' meeting of Kukkar Pind held on July 20 passed a resolution rejecting their village land being brought under land pooling. The resolution argued that the scheme would have the worst impact on small farmers and farm labourers. The resolution stated that after thorough deliberations, the village panchayat and the residents decided to 'strongly oppose' the land pooling policy and that they would not allow the Punjab govt to implement it in their village. They appealed to the state govt to review its decision and resolve the issue before things start taking an unsavoury turn. The village also decided to send the gram sabha resolution to the Punjab chief minister, revenue minister, and Jalandhar deputy commissioner. BKU (Doaba) block president Sukhbir Singh, who is also from Kukkar Pind, said that other villages were also in the process of calling a gram sabha meeting. MSID:: 122907311 413 |
