George Russell beats Max Verstappen to win Canadian Grand Prix
Russell had won the pole in qualifying on Saturday and kept his focus to maintain his lead till the end, with Verstappen in tow throughout. This was Russell's sixth pole in his career and his second consecutive pole in Canada, after achieving the feat last season as well.
Last year too, Max Verstappen was second on the grid but had stolen the win from Russell despite the latter's pole position.
Speaking to the media after the win, Russell said as per Formula 1, "It is amazing to be back on the top step. I felt last year was a victory lost, so to get the victory and see Kimi on the podium too is an amazing day for the team. I think the strength of our car is in the cooler conditions so let's see in the coming races, but let's enjoy this for now. Good day, good day!"
Kimi also said, "It was so stressful! But super happy.

As the race neared the finish line, he had a clash with his own teammate, Lando Norris. Taking it in his stride, Norris said on team radio, 'It's all my bad. All my fault" and retired from the race.

George Russell wins from pole at Canadian Grand Prix

Great Britain's George Russell captured his first F1 victory of the year, leading from wire-to-wire at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal on Sunday (June 15, 2025). Russell earned the pole position with "an incredible pole lap" on Saturday (June 14, 2025), fended off four-time world champion Max Verstappen at the start, and was not threatened the rest of the way. Russell described his sixth career pole position as "probably the most exhilarating lap I've ever done in my life because around this circuit you've got to be so committed." McLaren teammates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri collided four laps from the finish, knocking the former out of the race. Piastri managed to hold onto fourth place and extended his lead in the championship (198 points) over Norris to 22 points. The collision has prompted an investigation by race stewards. Verstappen, who finished second, is in third position overall (155), while Russell is fourth (136). Fourteen of 24 races remain on the 2025 circuit. Russell's Mercedes teammate, 18-year-old Kimi Antonelli, finished third, becoming the third-youngest driver to earn a podium spot. "It was so stressful but (I'm) super happy," Antonelli said. "I had a good start, managed to jump into P3 and just stayed up there at the front." Russell earned his fourth career victory and his first since capturing the Las Vegas Grand Prix in 2024. "I want to thank the team and the factory for their efforts," said Russell. "Let's see what happens in the ¬upcoming races but I'm just going to enjoy this one for now!" The drivers head to Austria for the MSC Cruises Austrian Grand Prix June 27-29.

The win marks a career-defining moment for Spaun, who battled back in style to earn golf's ultimate prize. — usopengolf (@usopengolf) Live Events "I never thought I would be holding this trophy," Spaun said. "I'm proud I've been so resilient in my career." Trailing for much of the final round, Spaun mounted a stunning comeback as US Open leaders Sam Burns and Australia's Adam Scott faltered down the stretch. Spaun, who became the first US Open champion to bogey the first three holes of his final round, rallied with four birdies over the last seven holes. He drained a 40-foot birdie putt at the par-five 12th, followed by a 22-footer at the 14th. After a setback with a bogey at 15, he responded with a crucial tap-in birdie at 17 before sealing the victory with a dramatic 65-foot birdie bomb on the 18th. — usopengolf (@usopengolf) "When I hit it I thought it was short," Spaun said. "But about eight feet out it was looking pretty good. "It's just one of those moments in major championships when you seal the deal." Spaun claimed the biggest win of his career, taking home the $4.3 million top prize after an emotional finish at Oakmont. Spaun, whose only previous PGA Tour win came at the 2022 Texas Open, wiped away tears as fans chanted his name following his clutch 65-foot birdie putt on the 18th green. A 96-minute weather delay before the back nine proved pivotal, giving Spaun time to regroup before launching a late charge. Meanwhile, Sam Burns collapsed with a five-over start through 12 holes, opening the door for a crowded leaderboard. — usopengolf (@usopengolf) Spain's Jon Rahm closed with three straight birdies to shoot 67 and finish at 284, tied for seventh with Burns and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. Rory McIlroy , fresh off his Masters triumph, carded a 67 to finish on 287 as he now sets his sights on next month's Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
