Guthrie Lourdes Health and Fitness turns three with free wellness event
JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A local gym is celebrating three years of wellness on Saturday.
Guthrie Lourdes Health and Fitness is turning three. To commemorate the occasion, the gym is offering a free day of fitness and fun to the community.
Those in attendance will be able to access the facility and participate in group classes. There will also be health screening and wellness information provided by Guthrie Lourdes Hospital.
Guests can also enjoy self-care stations, healthy refreshments, demonstrations, a silent auction, and more.
Guthrie Lourdes Health and Fitness is home to a large gym with a wide variety of fitness equipment as well as group fitness classes and several amenities including three pools, a hot tub, and men's and women's saunas. There is also childcare.
General Manager Mark Powell says the event is perfect for non-members to come and check the facility out.
'It's really good for the community who has not been here yet to come and see what we're all about and have a free tour and take part in all of the classes that we have going on and all of the programs, especially for the kids and families,' said Powell.
The event is free, family friendly, and open to the public. It will run from 9 until noon.

No more noodles? Fall River chow mein manufacturer temporarily out of stock
FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — It's hard to picture Fall River without its famous Hoo-Mee Chow Mein. But that's the unfortunate reality local chow mein lovers are currently facing. The Oriental Chow Mein Company announced earlier this month that, due to a 'mechanical failure,' the manufacturer is temporarily out of its chow mein products. 'We hope to have these products back in stock soon,' the Oriental Chow Mein Company said in a statement. The crunchy deep-fried noodles are most commonly used to make the city's signature chow mein sandwich. The chow mein noodles are drenched in a brown gravy and served piled high on a hamburger-style bun. 12 News stopped by the Oriental Chow Mein Company's Fall River facility, and was met by a sign on the door the reads: 'CLOSED! Until further notice. Machine is out of order. Sold out of ALL noodles.' The lack of chow mein has created quite the frenzy. The vast majority of local grocery stores haven't had Hoo-Mee Chow Mein products in stock for weeks, and restaurants have been forced to alter their menus for the time being. And although there are other chow mein noodles on the market, most locals will argue that those brands simply aren't comparable. Jennifer Powell, a Fall River native who's now living in Bristol, told 12 News there's nothing like Hoo-Mee Chow Mein. 'It's just a staple,' Powell said. 'If you grew up here, you know what it is. It's the best chow mein and you can't get it anywhere else.' It's unclear exactly when the machine will be back up and running at this time. 12 News reached out to the Oriental Chow Mein Company but has not heard back. Green Bay's nearly 150-year-old infrastructure gets failing grade in water report
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Green Bay's water utility earned strong marks on a new statewide report card, but one failing grade is raising concerns. The Wisconsin Waterworks Excellence Project, created by UW–Madison Professor Manny Teodoro, uses state data to grade all regulated drinking water systems in Wisconsin on a school-style scale. 'These systems are buried, so they stay figuratively buried,' Teodoro said. 'The idea behind the report card is to make them familiar and easy to relate to.' Water Quality – Health: A Finance: B Communications: A+ Infrastructure and Operations: F Teodoro says Green Bay's aging infrastructure—some pipes date back to the 1880s—was the main driver of the failing grade. 'Green Bay loses a lot of water,' he said. 'Our Midwestern winters are very tough on water infrastructure… the systems are old in many parts of the city.' Still, Teodoro called Green Bay Water a 'well-led, professionally operated utility,' adding the city is already taking steps in the right direction. Utility General Manager Brian Powell agreed the infrastructure needs attention, but said the report card doesn't capture the full picture. 'We have a system that's over 140 years old… and part of our plan is to replace one percent of our infrastructure a year,' Powell said. 'The grading doesn't necessarily capture what we are doing.' He noted those upgrades were in motion before the report card came out. Mirabito collecting donations for Folds of Honor
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A local convenience store chain is supporting the families of those who sacrificed for their country. Mirabito has announced that Folds of Honor will be the recipient of its Mirabito Cares Round Up campaign beginning on Monday and running through July 6. Folds of Honor is a nonprofit that provides scholarships to the spouses and children of fallen or disabled military members or first responders. Customers will be asked to round their purchases up to the nearest dollar, and then Mirabito will make an additional contribution of its own.
