Ministers slam BJP for insulting national flag and senior minister

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh health minister Dhani Ram Shandil and agriculture minister Chander Kumar on Sunday slammed the
BJP
, accusing it of "insulting not just a senior minister of the state government, Jagat Singh Negi, but also the national flag, the symbol of India's pride and honour".
In a joint statement, the ministers strongly condemned the July 25 incident involving Negi in Thunag area of Seraj assembly constituency. They alleged that BJP workers, "acting under the instructions of their leaders, threw shoes, slippers, and black cloth on the national flag mounted on minister Negi's car -- a highly shameful and condemnable act."
"The Tricolour is a symbol of our nation's identity and countless brave soldiers and great leaders sacrificed their lives for its honour.
But the way the BJP workers insulted our national flag reveals their true face to the public," the ministers said. They added that the people of the state now understand that BJP's 'Tiranga Yatras' were merely a show and that the party has no genuine respect for the national flag.
The ministers, both veterans in public life, stated that they had been in politics for over five decades but had never witnessed such a low level of political conduct.
They said the state government had decided to temporarily shift the Forestry College from Thunag to ensure students' safety, but BJP leaders were turning the issue into a political controversy and risking students' safety for political mileage.
They also said that the revenue minister had visited Seraj and other parts of Mandi district affected by recent disasters to assess the damage suffered by farmers and horticulturists and to prepare a suitable relief package. "Farmers in Mandi suffered heavy losses in apple orchards and polyhouses used for floriculture. The revenue minister was going to present a detailed report in the cabinet," they added.

Four BJP municipal council members disqualified for violating party whip
Mysuru: In a significant political development, Mysuru District Commissioner Lakshmikant Reddy has disqualified four BJP members of the Nanjangud City Municipal Council for violating the party whip during the council president election. The order was issued under Section 3(1)(b) of the Karnataka Local Authorities (Prohibition of Defection) Act, 1987. The disqualified members are T.M. Girish Kumar (Ward 1), Gayathri (Ward 12), Meenakshi Nagaraju (Ward 22), and Vijayalakshmi (Ward 27). All four had allegedly defied the BJP whip by voting in favor of the Congress candidate, Srikanta, during the president election—paving the way for his victory, despite BJP and JD(S) holding a majority in the council. Following the breach, a complaint was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner on October 29, 2024, by BJP City President Siddaraju and party functionary Devu, seeking action under the anti-defection law. After reviewing arguments from both sides and considering that the council's term still had 100 days left, the District Commissioner ruled in favor of disqualification. Speaking to reporters, DC Lakshmikant Reddy confirmed the action, stating, 'The decision was made based on the violation of the whip issued by the party. We have acted in accordance with the anti-defection law and have taken all due processes into account.' This move comes as a stern warning to elected representatives across Karnataka who might defy party directives, particularly in closely contested civic bodies where internal party discipline plays a decisive role in leadership appointments.

BJP delegation urges CM to resolve acute shortage of red stone and sand
Mangaluru: A delegation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Dakshina Kannada met Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, urging immediate intervention to address the severe shortage of red laterite stone and sand in the district. They alleged that the unscientific policies of the Congress-led state government have disrupted supply chains, affecting construction and labour sectors. Due to the shortage, construction work — including individual house building — has come to a standstill across the district. The delegation said the crisis has hit the local economy and left thousands of daily-wage labourers without work, calling it a matter requiring urgent state-level attention. The BJP leaders also submitted a memorandum to Samir Shukla, Principal Secretary of the Department of Mines and Geology, outlining the public hardship caused by the disruption in raw material supply and seeking immediate administrative remedies. The delegation included Dakshina Kannada BJP District President Satish Kumpala, Member of Parliament Capt. Brijesh Chowta, MLAs, district general secretary Yatheesh Arwar, and BJP media cell coordinator Vasant J. Poojary, among others. They demanded the government streamline the approval process for quarrying and sand extraction, which they claim has become excessively restrictive and bureaucratic under the current regime.
