Turkish social media users took to several platforms, likening the incident to Westerns and popular mafia titles such as "The Godfather" and "Goodfellas."
A social media user wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), "They're shooting a western movie, the good, the bad, and the ugly, how nice, no need to go to America."

Foreign activists launch hunger strike after Israeli seizure of Gaza aid ship
Published July 28th, 2025 - 04:59 GMT Adalah also reported that five of the detainees have either been deported or are expected to be deported imminently. ALBAWABA- Foreign activists detained by Israel after their Gaza-bound aid ship was seized have launched an open-ended hunger strike in protest, according to the Adalah Legal Center. The ship, Handala, carrying essential humanitarian supplies, including baby formula, food, and medicine, was intercepted by Israeli forces off the Gaza coast on Saturday night. On board were 21 unarmed civilians, including lawmakers, healthcare workers, and volunteers from various countries. In a statement issued Monday, and reported by Anadolu News, Adalah confirmed that most of the detainees are refusing food to protest what they describe as unlawful detention. "The continued detention of these civilian activists, who were forcibly taken from international waters, constitutes a grave violation of international law," the organization stated, demanding their immediate release ahead of court hearings scheduled the same day at Givon Prison in Ramla, central Israel. 🚢 Foreign activists aboard a Gaza aid ship seized by Israel launch an open-ended hunger strike to protest their detention ➡️ The Handala ship, carrying baby formula, food, and medicine, was intercepted near Gaza with 21 civilians on board — Anadolu English (@anadoluagency) July 28, 2025 Adalah also reported that five of the detainees have either been deported or are expected to be deported imminently. The Handala was launched by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) from Italy in an effort to break Israel's months-long blockade of Gaza, where 2.4 million residents are facing a deepening famine. The mission is the latest in a series of humanitarian flotillas intercepted by Israel in international waters. In June, Israeli forces seized the ship Madleen, detaining 12 international activists, including prominent climate activist Greta Thunberg and French Member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan. In May, the MV Conscience was attacked by drones near Malta. Israel has maintained an 18-year blockade on Gaza and has fully sealed all crossings since March 2, 2025, blocking humanitarian convoys despite urgent international appeals. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, at least 147 Palestinians, 88 of them children, have died of starvation since October 2023. Also Read Israeli forces intercept activist ship ' Handala ' near Gaza Meanwhile, Israel's military offensive on Gaza, launched on October 7, 2023, has killed nearly 60,000 people, most of them women and children, and left much of the enclave in ruins. The siege has sparked global outrage and led to growing legal pressure on Israel. In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Separately, Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza. As hunger and despair mount, the hunger strike by detained foreign activists draws renewed international attention to the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, and the mounting legal and moral scrutiny facing Israel. © 2000 - 2025 Al Bawaba (

Zelensky accuses Russia of trying to cross into Dnipropetrovsk region
ISTANBUL Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed that the Russian army seeks to cross into his country's Dnipropetrovsk region as its military offensive continues, state news agency Ukrinform reported on Wednesday. 'They will do everything to cross the administrative border of the Dnipropetrovsk region. They want it. So far they have not succeeded,' Zelenskyy told journalists in a briefing on Tuesday. Zelenskyy said Russian forces also seek to take control of the city of Pokrovsk, a key front in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region, arguing that the region's capture, as well as the country's easternmost Luhansk region, remain Moscow's strategic goals since 2014. He said he believed Russia intends to create a 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) 'security buffer zone' in the northeastern Sumy region, where Governor Oleh Hryhorov said four villages were taken under Russian control. 'Now they are accumulating troops in the Sumy direction. More than 50,000,' Zelenskyy said, adding that they have taken measures to prevent an offensive in the north. He also dismissed ideas about a potential Russian offensive in the southern Kherson region. Zelenskyy said he considers Türkiye, the Vatican, and Switzerland as the three most realistic venues for future direct peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, arguing that such negotiations in Belarus were 'simply impossible.' Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the creation of a "security buffer zone" along the border with Ukraine. Türkiye facilitated the first direct talks between Moscow and Kyiv in three years in Istanbul on May 16, where the two sides agreed to a large-scale exchange of prisoners involving a total of 1,000 people from each side. Putin and US President Donald Trump later agreed for talks on ceasefire and preparation of a memorandum for a potential peace deal.
