Manesar (Haryana) [India], June 17 (ANI): Maruti Suzuki's new railway siding at its Manesar plant will eliminate approximately 65,000 truck trips annually, translating to 232 fewer truck journeys per day based on 280 working days, Senior Executive Director, Corporate Affairs, Rahul Bharti announced on Tuesday.
Speaking to ANI at the Manesar facility, Bharti highlighted that the railway terminal will dispatch seven popular models including Celerio, WagonR, SPresso, Dzire, Brezza, Ertiga and XL6, while export vehicles will be transported to Pipavav and Mundra ports through the new facility.
The Manesar railway siding represents India's largest automobile GatiShakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal, capable of dispatching 450,000 vehicles annually at full capacity. Spread across 46 acres within the Manesar facility, the terminal features a fully electrified 8.2-kilometer corridor with four full-length tracks plus one engine escape track, a two-floor station building, and comprehensive support infrastructure.
The project, executed through a joint venture with Haryana Orbital Rail Corporation Ltd (HORCL) at a total cost of Rs 1,170.91 crore, marks the company's second such facility following the Gujarat plant's inaugural railway siding.
Maruti Suzuki's green logistics transformation has been remarkable since FY 2014-15, with railway dispatches growing nearly eight-fold from 5 per cent to 24.3 per cent of total vehicle dispatches in FY 2024-25.
The company dispatched a record 5.18 lakh vehicles through railways last fiscal year, contributing to a cumulative 25 lakh vehicles transported via rail since the initiative began.
Currently operating over 40 flexi-deck rakes with 300-vehicle capacity each, the automaker serves more than 600 cities across India through 21 distribution hubs.
The environmental impact of this logistics strategy is substantial, with the Manesar facility alone expected to avoid 175,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions and save 60 million litres of fuel annually at full capacity.
As Maruti Suzuki prepares to scale production to 4 million units by FY 2030-31, the company plans to increase railway usage to approximately 35 per cent of total dispatches over the next five to six years, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable transportation and reduced carbon footprint in the automotive sector. FAO Food Price Index edges up in July

Rome [Italy], August 8 (ANI/ WAM): The FAO Food Price Index, a benchmark for world food commodity prices, averaged 130.1 points in July 2025, up 1.6 per cent from June, driven primarily by rising international prices of meat and vegetable oils. Despite this monthly increase, the index remains 18.8 per cent below its peak in March 2022, although 7.6 per cent higher than its level in July 2024. The index tracks monthly changes in the international prices of a set of globally traded food commodities. In July, price increases in the meat and vegetable oil indices more than offset declines in the cereal, dairy and sugar FAO Cereal Price Index averaged 106.5 points, down 0.8 per cent from June. Declining wheat and sorghum prices outweighed increases in maize and barley. Fresh seasonal wheat harvests in the northern hemisphere put downward pressure, though adverse conditions of spring wheat in parts of northern America provided some price support. The FAO All Rice Price Index dropped 1.8 per cent, driven by ample export supplies and weak import FAO Vegetable Oil Price Index averaged 166.8 points in July, marking a sharp rise of 7.1 per cent from the previous month, reaching a three-year high. The increase reflected higher quotations for palm, soy and sunflower oil prices rose on robust global demand and improved competitiveness, while soy oil was supported by expectations of firm biofuel sector demand in the Americas. Sunflower oil prices also climbed due to tightening export supplies in the Black Sea region. In contrast, rapeseed oil prices declined with the arrival of new crop supplies in FAO Meat Price Index averaged 127.3 points, up 1.2 per cent from June, reaching a new all-time high. The increase was led by higher prices for bovine and ovine meat, supported by strong import demand, particularly from China and the United States of America. Poultry meat prices also edged up slightly amid resumed imports from key partners following Brazil's regaining of its avian influenza-free status. Conversely, pig meat prices declined due to ample supplies and reduced global demand, especially in the European FAO Dairy Price Index edged down by 0.1 per cent from June to 155.3 points, marking the first decline since April 2024. Prices for butter and milk powders decreased, reflecting abundant export supplies and subdued import demand, particularly from Asia. However, international cheese prices continued to rise, driven by strong demand in Asian and Near East markets and tighter export availability in the European FAO Sugar Price Index averaged 103.3 points, down 0.2 per cent from the previous month, continuing its downward trend for a fifth consecutive month. Air India AI171 plane crash victims' families to file suit in US? Lawyer Mike Andrews says ‘because the plane…'

Air India plane crash: US based law firm Beasley Allen's lead lawyer Mike Andrews said that since the aircraft involved in the Ahmedabad plane crash, a Boeing Dreamliner, was manufactured in the United States, the 'families, the victims, have a voice in those claims in the US.' 'Potential legal options will depend on what the flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder reveal in terms of what happened here,' said Andrews, reported ANI. Families of 65 victims of the deadly Air India Flight AI-171's deadly crash, which killed a total of 241 people on bord, have hired Beasley Allen, the same team that fought for families in the Boeing 737 MAX tragedies, to take on Boeing and Air India in court, reported Hindustan Times. According to Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB)'s report on the Air India plane crash, voice recordings from the cockpit revealed confusion in fuel cutoff, with a MAYDAY distress call issued moments before the crash. Mike Andrews said that suppose 'flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder indicate that there is a defect with the aircraft, for example FADEC system or the throttle control malfunctioning,' then the options are to bring a defective product or a product liability claim Beasley Allen rose to prominence through its work on the Boeing 737 MAX cases, which stemmed from two deadly crashes—Lion Air Flight 610 in Indonesia and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 in Ethiopia—that claimed 346 lives between 2018 and 2019. In 2021, Boeing agreed to a $2.5 billion deferred prosecution settlement, which included a $243.6 million criminal fine, $1.77 billion in payments to airlines, and $500 million for victims' families, as per records by US Department of Justice. Investigations revealed that Boeing's retrofitting of the 737 design to compete with Airbus led to significant design flaws, including the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS).
