Hyder Shah, father of a 30-year-old 'ponywallah' who was killed while trying to snatch a rifle from a terrorist during the attack in Pahalgam, said he felt proud because of his son's sacrifice to save tourists he ferried to the meadow.

The deceased's father stood inconsolable when the chief minister hugged him to share grief and express solidarity. 'I am very proud of him and his sacrifice. I am alive because of the pride I am feeling. Otherwise, I would have died the moment I saw his young, dead body. I am happy because of his bravery. Some people were saved because of him, and I am proud of it,' Hyder Shah told ANI on Thursday.
Syed Naushad, the deceased's brother, said that Shah had gone to Pahalgam for work, where terrorists shot him thrice in his chest. "He used to take tourists on pony rides to Baisaran. On Tuesday, when terrorists attacked tourists, my brother tried to stop them. A tourist whose father was killed in the attack told me about the heroic act of my brother at SMHS hospital,' he said.
Abdullah hailed Shah's courageous act to defend tourists he had ferried on horseback from the parking area to Baisaran meadow. 'Met his grieving family and assured them of full support — Adil (Shah) was the sole breadwinner, and his extraordinary bravery and sacrifice will forever be remembered. We are with them and will help them as much as we can,' he wrote on X.

Shah's funeral prayers were led by a local, Ghulam Hassan, who lauded the pony ride operator's sacrifice. 'He will be rewarded by Allah for his deeds. I pray nobody sees their loved ones die like this. We should always be ready to die for others, whether a Sikh, Pandit or a Muslim. That is what our religion teaches us,' Hassan said.

Pirzada Kasem Siddiqui appointed Trinamool Congress's General Secretary

Ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has appointed Pirzada Kasem Siddiqui of Furfura Sharif as the party's general secretary. The appointment is being seen as a strategic step by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to consolidate the Muslim vote bank and counter the growing influence of the Indian Secular Front (ISF).The decision carries considerable political weight, especially given the ISF's performance in the last Assembly elections. Before the previous polls, Pirzada Abbas Siddiqui of Furfura Sharif had launched the Indian Secular Front, which made a strong electoral debut. His brother, Naushad Siddiqui, won the Bhangar seat in South 24 Parganas- traditionally a TMC stronghold - marking a significant breach in the party's Muslim support then, the ISF has been steadily expanding its presence in several Muslim-majority areas beyond South 24 Parganas, raising concerns within the TMC about erosion of its traditional vote bank. In this context, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee's move to bring Kasem Siddiqui into a prominent position within the party - without even a formal joining ceremony - is being seen as a strong signal of the importance the TMC places on retaining Muslim support. Kasem Siddiqui, a well-regarded figure in Furfura Sharif, is closely related to Abbas and Naushad Siddiqui. His influence in the religious and social fabric of the region is expected to help TMC reconnect with voters who may have drifted toward the ISF. The appointment also suggests that Kasem Siddiqui could be given a larger role in the upcoming Banerjee's outreach to Furfura Sharif has been evident in recent months. During Eid-ul-Fitr, she visited the religious site, where Kasem Siddiqui was seen alongside her. The two were also spotted together at an Iftar party in Kolkata's Park Circus area, fueling speculation about a deeper political alliance in the the ISF's Muslim voter base and its roots in the religiously significant Furfura Sharif in Hooghly district, the TMC appears to be bracing for a serious electoral challenge. With this appointment, the party is attempting to reclaim lost ground and prevent further fragmentation of the Muslim vote in the Reel

HC relief to teacher who hit student; considers request for migration

1 2 3 Madurai: Madras high court has directed the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings against the teacher of an aided school in Madurai district who slapped a student using a slipper, and subsequently tendered his apology to the student and his parents. The court also considered his request favourably for migration to another school. The court was hearing the petition filed by K Ramesh, who was working as a PG assistant (English) teacher in a govt-aided school in Madurai district. In June 2024, while the petitioner was taking class for the Class XII students, a student repeatedly interrupted the class. On sudden provocation, the petitioner slapped him with a slipper. Based on a complaint lodged by the parents of the student, disciplinary proceedings were initiated against the petitioner, and he was placed under suspension. The petitioner submitted an application for voluntary retirement; however, he subsequently withdrew it and opted for migrating to another aided school. However, his request for migration was rejected by the school management. Hence, the petitioner filed the present petition challenging the suspension order and seeking permission to migrate to another school. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Düsseldorf: GEERS sucht 700 Testhörer für Hörgeräte ohne Zuzahlung GEERS Undo Ramesh's counsel submitted that the petitioner apologised immediately to the student and his parents. The parents also withdrew the complaint. Considering the happenings, it would be awkward for the petitioner to continue in the same school, which is why he opted for migration to another school. Justice B Pugalendhi observed that the teacher also submitted a representation seeking migration to another school and enclosed various medals, certificates, and letters of appreciation received from competent authorities over his 22 years of service. The petitioner's service record prior to this incident was unblemished and marked by competent and dedicated performance. "While the act of physical misconduct is unacceptable, the court is of the opinion that a lenient and balanced view is warranted in light of his otherwise clean and commendable service record; his willingness to take responsibility for the incident; and the fact that he himself requested to be transferred," the judge observed. Hence, the judge directed that the disciplinary proceedings initiated against the petitioner shall be formally concluded based on available records and submissions. Subject to the availability of a willing recipient school and the formal closure of proceedings without the imposition of a major penalty, the request for migration may be favourably considered. Such migration, although sought by the petitioner, shall be deemed adequate to address the institutional concerns and is considered a sufficient administrative measure under the circumstances. Until such time, the existing order of suspension shall remain in force. Such exercise shall be concluded as expeditiously as possible, preferably within four weeks, since the next academic year is about to commence, the judge directed.
