Sabah Umno to focus on unity and upcoming state election
Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, leader of both Sabah Barisan Nasional and Umno, asserted the party's readiness with strong grassroots machinery, renewed energy, and a clear agenda aimed at restoring effective governance under strong national leadership.
"Our mission is singular and urgent, to win the state election. And we are ready with solid grassroots machinery, renewed energy, and a clear agenda to restore dignity and deliver effective governance under a strong national leadership," he stated on Thursday (July 17).
Addressing recent remarks by fellow Sabah Umno leader Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, Bung Moktar emphasised that while differing opinions exist, the party's focus should remain on the future rather than past events.
He noted that Abdul Rahman had referenced events from 2022, reflecting past internal differences, but clarified that the decisions then were made through collective consensus.
"Politics naturally involves differences. What matters is how we resolve them. That episode is behind us. We respect the past, but we are not prisoners of it," he said.
Bung Moktar also criticised certain media outlets for reviving old narratives for their own purposes.
"Let me be clear, Sabah Umno is united, focused, and fully committed as one team heading into PRN17," he added.
He reiterated the party's dedication to providing real solutions that address the people's needs, rather than getting entangled in old political drama.
"In today's political landscape, whether in Sabah, Malaysia, or globally, the public values those who offer solutions, not those stuck in the past. That is why Sabah Umno chooses to be part of the solution, part of the future," he concluded.

Jo Ghani: US' 19 per cent tariff on Malaysian palm oil competitive
PASIR GUDANG: The 19 per cent export tariff imposed by the United States (US) on Malaysian commodities, including palm oil, is considered competitive and not burdensome compared to other Asean countries, said Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani. Johari said Malaysia remained in a good competitive position as the tariff rate was among the lowest in the region. "The 19 per cent tariff imposed by the US on Malaysia is among the lowest in Asean countries. Even Indonesia, the world's largest palm oil producer, is subject to the same tariff rate. If we look at the context of palm oil commodities, Indonesia is the largest producer, number one in the world, and we are number two. But Indonesia is also subject to 19 per cent like Malaysia, so there is no problem, meaning we have a 'fair fight'," he said. He was speaking at a press conference after officiating the Pasir Gudang Umno Division Delegates Conference today. Also present was Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, who is also an Umno vice-president and Pasir Gudang Umno division chief. Malaysia was subjected to the 19 per cent tariff based on an executive order signed by US President Donald Trump. The document for the reciprocal tariff rate adjustment, signed by Trump on July 31, 2025, has been uploaded to the White House website. Previously, Trump set a 25 per cent tariff for Malaysia, but it is understood that a phone conversation between him and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday may have been a factor in the tariff reduction. Johari, who is also performing the duties of the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister, added that there had been no significant issues with the country's commodity exports due to the tariff rate. "Malaysia's commodity exports are still able to compete fairly in the international market. I don't see any problems so far with the 19 per cent tariff imposed by the US on our country's commodity exports," he said.

Muhyiddin denies betraying Borneo bloc, slams Hajiji's remarks
FORMER prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has denied claims by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor that he did not support the Borneo bloc. Muhyiddin called the accusation baseless and false, stressing that he has long supported Sabah's development and was consistently present in the state. 'Recently, there was a statement made. Why did he (Hajiji) betray us, claiming that I don't support the Borneo bloc? 'When did I ever say I didn't support the Borneo bloc? I don't even know who that bloc is, because from the very beginning I've been present here in Sabah,' he said during his speech at the Perikatan Nasional People's Tour event here on Friday (Aug 1) night. He defended his commitment to Sabah, recalling his involvement since UMNO's early days there. Muhyiddin said the claim reflects political betrayal and urged Sabahans to rebuild their strength and dignity. 'If I were to talk about the past, when UMNO first entered Sabah, from that time until today I've remained in Sabah because I believe Sabah has unique strengths, its natural wealth can be used to develop the state and turn Sabah into a successful and progressive state. 'When did I ever say I didn't support Sabah or the Borneo bloc? That's a lie,' he stressed. He also reaffirmed Perikatan Nasional's aim to reclaim both Sabah and the Federal Government from the current Pakatan Harapan-led administration. During the recent Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah general assembly, Hajiji claimed that certain leaders from the previous federal government did not support the Borneo bloc. He cited this as one of the reasons for backing the formation of the unity government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Hajiji did not name anyone specifically but hinted it was a senior figure from the former administration. — Aug 2, 2025 Main photo credit: Bernama

13MP places Sabah's priorities in national plan: Bung
Published on: Saturday, August 02, 2025 Published on: Sat, Aug 02, 2025 By: Abbey Junior Text Size: Bung also underscored several major projects listed in the 13MP, including the development of the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park, upgrading of biodiesel depots in Sandakan and Lahad Datu, and the continuation of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah. Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Umno Chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin described the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) as a clear recognition of Sabah's role as a driver of rural transformation and sustainable economic growth. The Kinabatangan MP said 13MP is not just a development roadmap but a strategic shift that places Sabah's priorities at the core of national planning, especially through investments in agriculture, fisheries and agro-based industries. '13MP not only reflects the intent to develop regional infrastructure and the economy, but also strengthens the principles of social justice and long-term rural economic resilience,' he said. He pointed to the RM227 billion allocation for the economic sector, including the creation of an integrated fisheries hub and blue economy in Sabah, as a decisive step towards building a stronger local food supply chain. He added that the plan's focus on modernising agriculture through automation and smart technologies would bring a significant impact to rural communities across the State. Bung also underscored several major projects listed in the 13MP, including the development of the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park, upgrading of biodiesel depots in Sandakan and Lahad Datu, and the continuation of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah. 'The emphasis on developing the rural workforce through TVET and targeted financing under the TVET Madani programme will shape a new generation of young agropreneurs and local technocrats, in line with 13MP's aspiration to create 1.2 million job opportunities by 2030, including in the digital economy and smart agriculture,' he said. He stressed that Sabah should not be viewed merely as a recipient of federal development, but as a catalyst for national progress. 'I urge the Sabah Government to proactively align the State's strategy with RMK13 in a substantive manner so that the opportunities presented can be fully maximised by the people of Sabah,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
