Inverclyde passengers to pocket savings as ScotRail peak fares set to be scrapped

Yahoo4 days ago
RAIL commuters in Inverclyde could save hundreds of pounds per year from next month as peak fares are permanently scrapped.
From September 1, ScotRail passengers travelling before 9.15am will see ticket prices slashed.
The fares also apply to some services between 4.42pm and 6.30pm.
The move could see Inverclyde commuters save up to £30 per week on travel.
A peak return between Gourock and Glasgow Central currently costs £15.60, with an off-peak ticket being priced at £9.90.
Those travelling between Wemyss Bay and [[Glasgow Central]] pay £16.50 for a return at peak times, or £10.40 for an off-peak return.
Plans to scrap peak fares were announced by First Minister John Swinney earlier this year in a bid to encourage greater use of public transport.
Ahead of the change, former transport minister Kevin Stewart MSP said: 'The SNP in government is putting money back in people's pockets, saving commuters across the country potentially hundreds of pounds.
'Scotland's trains, which the SNP government brought back into public ownership, are vital to our economy, and as a public service they should be as accessible as possible.
'As prices soar in broken Brexit Britain, we are saving people money and showing what is possible when we have the power to make our own decisions.
'As an independent nation, we could do so much more; and that's what the SNP is fighting for.'

Alexander Isak: Liverpool handed huge transfer boost in striker pursuit as deal agreed

Liverpool's pursuit of Alexander Isak looks to be gaining momentum once more as the Reds were handed a big boost to their transfer war chest. The Premier League champions last week saw a £110million plus add-ons bid turned down by Newcastle for the Swedish international, and reports soon after claimed that interest in the striker then ended. However, that stance is now believed to have changed with Liverpool nearing a key sale to bolster their transfer kitty. According to widespread reports, Liverpool have reached an agreement to sell striker Darwin Nunez to Al-Hilal, who had made the Uruguayan their 'priority' target after missing out on Victor Osimhen, who made his loan move to Galatasaray permanent. Fabrizio Romano reports that the Saudi Pro League outfit are closing in on the signing of Nunez, in what would be a huge boost to Liverpool's chances of signing Isak. The Italian journalist detailed that the Reds would receive £46m plus add-ons for the forward. Not only does Nunez's prospective exit make room for another body in Arne Slot's striking ranks, it also brings in vital cash for Liverpool to tack onto their initial Isak offer as they prepare to test Newcastle's resolve once more. The Daily Mail reported previously that the Magpies were holding out for closer to £150m for their talisman, and funds brought in from Nunez will help Liverpool get closer to that figure. Liverpool have spent well over £200m this summer already, with the arrivals of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekitike, and Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Liverpool set to bank €100m for star forward

Liverpool always try to get the best deal they can and Richard Hughes is a tough negotiator. Arne Slot has told us in the past about how strategic Liverpool were in their pursuit of him to become their new head coach and all of the right questions were asked to tempt the Dutchman to move. Luis Diaz to Bayern was a better deal than we thought The Colombian's departure to Bayern Munich was polarising for some fans, given how important he was to the team last season and in general his 22 goal contributions were a reasonable return. But since he was 28 years old and nearing the end of his contract, with Liverpool unwilling to offer him a new deal, the opportunity to sell was not something the Reds could turn down, especially not for the £65m (€75m) package that the Germans offered. It's was an extraordinary deal to agree. Cody Gakpo and up and coming talent Rio Ngumoha will be able to lock-down the left-hand side of the attack this season in his absence and the club's net transfer spend fell massively as a result. Furthermore, new signing Hugo Ekitike has also proved that he can play on the left-wing occasionally, although his main role will be playing as a striker, potentially alongside Alexander Isak.
