RUSSIA has stepped up its savage bombing campaign on Ukraine despite hopes of an end to the war.
The attacks comes as Vladimir Putin is set to meet Trump in an historic summit for Ukraine peace talks.

Separately, the Russians killed a 62-year-old civilian woman in Huliaipole, near the frontline in Zaporizhzhia region.
And Moscow released visuals of this week's joint war games with China - Maritime Interaction-2025 - in which the two repressive states conducted artillery combat on a 'simulated enemy' in a show of strength to the West.
The incidents question whether Putin is serious in a desire for peace despite reports Trump is seeking face-to-face talks with the dictator in the next week following his envoy Witkoff's three hour Kremlin session with Putin.
Asked if Putin may be fooling Trump, the US president replied: 'Can't answer the question yet. I'll tell you in a matter of weeks, maybe less. But we made a lot of progress.'
Meanwhile he vowed more sanctions against countries trading oil with Russia, so funding the Putin war machine.
'We did it with India, we're doing it probably with a couple of others. One of them could be China,' said Trump.

Trump said a face to face encounter with Putin could come by next week.
'There's a good chance that there will be a meeting very soon,' he said.
But he cautioned the progress made was not a 'breakthrough'.
His secretary of state Marco Rubio said many obstacles still needed to be overcome.
Ukraine sought to increase pressure on Putin with precision strikes on key military and strategic targets in overnight action.
Volodymyr Zelensky's forces reportedly hit a Russian military unit in Slavyansk-na-Kubani in Krasnodar region.
'Eyewitnesses observe a fire in the area of the military unit,' said a report.
Reports said the strike was against military unit 61661.
A spectacular and 'massive' inferno was burning at Afipsky Refinery in the same region after 6am explosions which 'rocked the facility, with flames lighting up the sky'.
It is one of the largest refineries in southern Russia.
Ukraine also targeted air defence units near Kerch in occupied Crimea, according to reports.
And they hit the Surovikino railway station triggering a fire in Volgograd region, where a temporary airport closure was enforced.
This was another in a series of recent strikes aimed at disrupting Putin's rail transport system, especially involving military cargoes.
Earlier, unmanned boats were reported to be attacking key port Novorossiysk, in Krasnodar region.
Russia claimed to have "repelled' the 4am attack, but there was no independent verification.

Aug 10 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he hoped China would quadruple its soybean orders from the U.S, adding that it was also "a way of substantially reducing" Beijing's trade deficit with Washington. "China is worried about its shortage of soybeans. Our great farmers produce the most robust soybeans. I hope China will quickly quadruple its soybean orders. This is also a way of substantially reducing China's Trade Deficit with the USA. Rapid service will be provided. Thank you President XI," Trump said on Truth Social. A tariff truce between Beijing and Washington is set to expire on August 12, but the Trump administration has hinted that the deadline may be extended. China, which takes more than 60% of soybeans shipped worldwide, buys the oilseed mainly from Brazil and the United States. The most active soybean contract on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) was up 2.13% at $10.08 a bushel at 0446 GMT, having been little changed before Trump's post. China imported roughly 105 million metric tons of soybeans last year, just under a quarter coming from the U.S. and the remainder from Brazil. Quadrupling shipments would require China to import the bulk of its soybeans from the U.S. "It's highly unlikely that China would ever buy four times its usual volume of soybeans from the U.S.," Johnny Xiang, founder of Beijing-based AgRadar Consulting, said. It is unclear if securing China's agreement to buy more U.S. soybeans is a condition for extending the trade truce. China's Ministry of Commerce did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. The country has steadily reduced its reliance on U.S. soybeans in recent years, shifting more purchases to South America. Under the Phase One trade deal signed during Trump's first term, China agreed to boost purchases of U.S. agricultural products, including soybeans. However, Beijing ultimately fell far short of meeting those targets. This year, amid Washington–Beijing trade tensions, it has yet to buy any fourth quarter U.S. beans, fuelling concerns as the U.S. harvest export season approaches. "On Beijing's side, there have been quite a few signals that China is prepared to forego U.S. soybeans altogether this year, including booking those test cargoes of soymeal from Argentina," said Even Rogers Pay, an agricultural analyst at Trivium China. Reuters previously reported that Chinese feedmakers have purchased three Argentine soymeal cargoes as they aim to secure cheaper South American supplies amid concerns about a possible soybean supply disruption in the fourth quarter. U.S. soybean industry has been seeking alternative buyers, but no other country matches China's scale. Last year, China imported 22.13 million tons of soybeans from the U.S., and 74.65 million tons from Brazil.

JD Vance's attempt to link Democrats to Epstein renews calls to ‘release the files'
Four days after JD Vance reportedly asked top Trump administration officials to come up with a new communications strategy for dealing with the scandal around the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, he appears to have put his foot in it, sparking a new round of online outrage even as he tried to defuse the furor. In an interview with Fox News broadcast on Sunday, the vice-president tried to deflect criticism of the administration's refusal to release the Epstein files by blaming Democrats. He accused Joe Biden of doing 'absolutely nothing' about the scandal when he was in the White House. 'And now President Trump has demanded full transparency from this. And yet somehow the Democrats are attacking him and not the Biden administration, which did nothing for four years,' he said. Epstein's former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, was convicted of conspiring with Epstein to sexually abuse multiple minor girls and sentenced to 20 years in federal prison during the Biden administration. If Vance's attempt to switch public blame onto Democrats was the big idea to emerge from his strategy meeting with attorney general Pam Bondi and FBI director Kash Patel, which according to CNN he convened at the White House last week, then their labours appear to have backfired. (Vance denied to Fox that they had discussed Epstein at all, though he did acknowledge the meeting took place.) Within minutes of the Fox News interview being broadcast, social media began to hum with renewed cries of 'release the files!' Clips of Vanc smearing Democrats quickly began to circulate on X. 'We know that Jeffrey Epstein had a lot of connections with leftwing politicians and leftwing billionaires … Democrat billionaires and Democrat political leaders went to Epstein island all the time. Who knows what they did,' he said. Vance also repeated Trump's previously debunked claim that Bill Clinton had visited Epstein's private island dozens of times. Clinton has acknowledged using Epstein's jet, but denied ever visiting his island. 'Fine. Release all the files,' was the riposte from Bill Kristol, the prominent conservative Never Trumper who urged the documents to be made public with 'no redactions of clients, enablers, and see-no-evil associates'. Jon Favreau, Barack Obama's former head speechwriter, replied: 'Release the names! Democrats, Republicans, billionaires, or not. What are you afraid of, JD Vance?' Favreau added that Trump's name 'is in the Epstein files'. That was an apparent reference to a report in the Wall Street Journal last month that a justice department review of the documents conducted under Bondi had found that the president's name did appear 'multiple times'. Other social media users used the Fox News interview as an excuse to re-run video of Trump in the hosting Epstein and Maxwell at Mar-a-Lago. Epstein died in August 2019, during Trump's first presidency, while the financier and socialite was awaiting trial in a Manhattan jail; the death was ruled a suicide. Among the most viral clips in the aftermath of that reversal was video of Vance himself telling the podcaster Theo Von, two weeks before the election: 'Seriously, we need to release the Epstein list, that is an important thing.' In his Fox News interview Vance also warned that 'you're going to see a lot of people get indicted' after Trump accused Obama of 'treason' and called for his predecessor to be prosecuted. The director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, has passed documents to the justice department that she claims show that the Obama administration maliciously tried to hurt Trump by linking Russian interference in the 2016 election to him. Obama has dismissed Trump's call for his prosecution as weak and ridiculous.
