BFI London Film Festival to open with premiere of third Knives Out film
The Netflix movie, which also stars Emmy-winning actress Glenn Close, Challengers star Josh O'Connor, and That '70s Show actress Mila Kunis, will headline the festival's opening night gala, taking place at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall this autumn.
The other cast members of the star-studded film include Irish actors Andrew Scott and Daryl McCormack and US actors Josh Brolin, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington and Cailee Spaeny.
Director Rian Johnson, said: 'We're honoured to be opening the BFI London Film Festival with Wake Up Dead Man. London is the birthplace of the golden age of detective fiction and it's a thrill to be back!'
Kristy Matheson, BFI London Film Festival director, said: 'At this 69th edition of the BFI London Film Festival we are inviting audiences to get their spyglass at the ready as we get back on the case with another deliciously fun mystery from director Rian Johnson and his all-star cast with Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
'Led by Daniel Craig and Josh O'Connor, the film features incredible British and international talent on and off screen who bring a sense of play and verve to the screen, to craft a film that twists, turns and will keep audiences guessing to the final frame.
'The third of the brilliant Knives Out films we have presented at the LFF, we are delighted to reunite for our special Opening Night.'
The 69th edition of the festival, which is run by the the UK's lead organisation for film and the moving image – the British Film Institute (BFI), will take place between October 8 and 19 2025.
The second movie in the film series, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, closed the 66th edition of the festival in 2022.
This year's festival will take place across a variety of venues in the capital including BFI Imax, Picturehouse Central, the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall, Prince Charles Cinema and Vue West End – as well as a number of other partner cinemas.
Wake Up Dead Mean: A Knives Out Mystery will be released to Netflix on December 12 2025.

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight set to write next James Bond movie
The British screenwriter Steven Knight has reportedly been tapped to write the next James Bond movie. According to Deadline, Knight recently met the director Denis Villeneuve and landed the job after various other writers were also considered. Villeneuve is currently filming the third Dune instalment. The 65-year-old writer is best known for co-creating the long-running gameshow Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and creating the hit crime series Peaky Blinders. His other small-screen credits include Taboo, A Thousand Blows and The Veil starring Elisabeth Moss. On the big screen, Knight was written the scripts for the acclaimed dramas Eastern Promises, Dirty Pretty Things, Locke and Spencer. He also wrote and directed the sci-fi thriller Serenity starring Matthew McConaughey, which received negative reviews. The Guardian's Charles Bramesco called it 'magnificently terrible'. His upcoming credits include the Peaky Blinders movie The Immortal Man and period drama series House of Guinness for Netflix. When talking about The Immortal Man in 2023, Knight name-checked 007. 'The biggest difference between a film and TV series is the budget,' he said to the Mirror. 'When you do stuff for TV, you often have to ask people to imagine it. But with a film, you can really do it. You can blow stuff up. Will Tommy be giving James Bond a run for his money? Maybe. There are parallels. We always thought of Peaky as very cinematic, so we are finally finding a screen big enough for what we want to do.' While the role of James Bond remains up in the air, a June report claimed that Tom Holland, Harris Dickinson and Jacob Elordi were top of the wishlist. The news came just after the Dune and Arrival director Villeneuve was officially attached. 'I intend to honour the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come,' he said in a statement. 'This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honour.' The 26th Bond film will follow Daniel Craig's final outing, No Time to Die, which made over $774m at the global box office. Earlier this year, in a reported $1bn deal, Amazon MGM bought the rights to gain 'creative control' of the franchise. This week, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy mentioned the film during a Q3 earnings call. 'James Bond is in the hands of one of today's greatest film-makers,'he said. 'We cannot wait to get started on 007's next adventure.'

They took to the stage with their band at a concert earlier this week and their Oscar-winning mother was there for support. Moses Martin, 19, is the youngest child of Coldplay 's Chris Martin, 48, and actor Gwyneth Paltrow, 52. The exes, who split in 2014 before getting divorce, but who have remained on good terms, are also parents to Apple Martin, 21. Like his father, Moses is a member of a band, with him one third of trio Dancer. His group performed at a concert in Chicago recently whilst supporting another band. It comes after Chris issued a warning to his own fans during his first gig with Coldplay since a kiss cam scandal earlier this month. Moses' band Dancer took to the stage at the Thalia Hall in Chicago last night. Alongside his bandmates Orlando and Andy, he opened for duo Royel Otis - who are due to perform at Reading Festival and Leeds Festival soon - at the venue. Prior to the gig, Dancer posted about their appearance on platforms like Instagram. Alongside a video of the trio performing together whilst sat on the back of a truck, they shared details of the gig with their followers. "I love this band," one person reacted to the post. Another wrote in the comments section: "Amazing." Someone else responded to the band's post: "See ya there." Someone else asked: "How can I listen to your songs???"
