The forgotten social grant: 2025 SASSA Grant-in-Aid

2025 SASSA Grant-in-Aid is a stipend like no other offered by the South African Social Security Agency. As the name suggests, it is paid in addition to a beneficiary's existing government grant. So, who is eligible for 2025 SASSA Grant-in-Aid, how much does it pay, and how can you go about securing it?
Well, 2025 SASSA Grant-in-Aid is provided only to the neediest SASSA recipients. Therefore, it is only available to Disability, Older Persons, Care Dependency and War Veterans grant beneficiaries. Here's how to know if you qualify and how you can secure the extra monthly stipend … The High Court ruled earlier this year that SASSA cannot excluded beneficiaries on grounds of 'insufficient budget.' As such, the South African Social Security Agency makes 2025 SASSA Grant-in-Aid available only to those who require full-time, at-home care. Therefore, the additional money paid out to you is meant to fund care services at your home. After the increases of April this year, 2025 SASSA Grant-in-Aid pays out R560. This makes it the same as SASSA Child Support Grant, which is paid out to more than 14-million residents. Previously, the additional grant paid out R530.
However, a valid question is whether the 2025 SASSA Grant-in-Aid amount is even sufficient to provide worthwhile in-home care. What carer will work full-time for R560? To be approved for 2025 SASSA Grant-in-Aid you must already be a 'core' grant recipient. And in the eyes of the state, you must be unable to care for yourself fully, so as to require at-home care.
While SASSA is making every effort to verify the identities of all its clients, so people don't take advantage of the scheme, how does it verify 2025 SASSA Grant-in-Aid exactly? If you believe you need the additional money, you must go consult with a private or government doctor. And they must supply you with a medical assessment stating you need full-time care from SASSA. Note that the report cannot be older than three months when you contact SASSA for the grant. And you will be excluded if you receive care in any sort of state-run care facility. The agency has released a full list of remaining payment dates for all grants till March 2026. Depending on which grant you receive, be sure to diarise the dates above, so you're never caught short.

Outreach effort supports senior citizens

The elderly residents of the Van Riebeeck, Jack Cotton and President flats, as well as Pioneer Home, were blessed with food parcels and blankets by a local organisation and church. • Also read: Together they bloom Together We Bloom and Ruimsig Gemeente church donated over 150 blankets as part of their outreach programme to assist the needy and less privileged of this community. According to the organiser and project director, Stefan Zeelie, this initiative is among many outreach programmes organised by Together We Bloom to make a difference in the community. This initiative by Horticulture South Africa aims to assist less privileged people by supporting feeding schemes, education, and healthcare initiatives, raising funds from the national and international business community,' he said. According to councillor Mark Trump, the residents are mainly former municipal workers who are SASSA recipients. 'We assisted 132 elderly people, living and managing to just survive on a SASSA pension of R2 230 a month, which needs to cover rent, water and electricity, food, medicine, and necessities such as toiletries and cleaning supplies. 'All residents of these municipal flats were blessed with a winter blanket and a hearty meal pack from Together We Bloom. With the rising costs of living, basic food staples, and inflation of electricity and water tariffs, many elderly persons on SASSA pensions are forced to ration down to just one meal a day, which is very limited, sometimes just a slice of bread and some soy mince. Just a simple cup of coffee is a luxury,' Mark said. Stefan thanked the organisation and the church for assisting their community. 'As a community, everything negative or positive affects the health of our society, which then indirectly affects every one of us. We need to continue working together to foster a culture of compassion, empathy, cooperation and mutual respect,' he said. Anyone who would like to get involved should visit for more information. FIND the nearest SASSA branch to you

Don't worry if you're trying to find the nearest SASSA branch to you. Last month, SASSA announced its latest initiative to protect against fraud and corruption. It's basically cancellation without review, and if you're one of the approximately 200 000 recipients affected, you must report to the nearest SASSA branch to rectify the situation. The above proceedings are all in the name of double-checking and confirming 'core' grant eligibility. Therefore, if your finances appear to be underquoted or any personal details don't align, you will have to visit the nearest SASSA branch to clarify matters urgently … Knowledge is power, so don't be caught short if SASSA needs to contact you. Image: File As such, we've received hundreds of messages on our WhatsApp line, asking about the best South Africa Social Security Agency branches to visit. Of course, queue times are terrible. And you can always try using the SASSA online portal that may or may not be offline when you try logon. The agency is hopelessly undersubscribed, handling 28-million clients (45% of the population) and being responsible for R260 billion annually. Unbelievably, even the elderly, those with disabilities and parents with young child dependents must visit the nearest SASSA branch in person for even basic transactions. This is particularly difficult for those that live in remote, rural areas or require full-time care. Making such trips requires a lot of time, money and effort to visit a nearest SASSA branch. The three-month review process is still in operation, even if certain 'core' clients experience delays in June 2025 payment. Image: File At last count, the agency claims to have 390 local offices. In addition to these, there are several satellite offices. Remember that all SASSA branches and offices are open from 08h00 to 17h00 Monday to Friday. Check out our comprehensive list of SASSA offices per province, including all contact details: SASSA BRANCH ADDRESS PHONE NUMBER SASSA House (Head office) 501 Prodinsa Building, Cnr Steve Biko and Pretorius Streets, Pretoria 0800 60 10 11 SASSA Eastern Cape BKB Building, Cnr Fitzpatrick and Merino Road, Quigney, East London 043 707 6300 SASSA Gauteng 28 Harrison Street, Johannesburg 011 241 8320 SASSA Mpumalanga 18 Ferreira Street, Nelspruit 013 754 9446 SASSA Limpopo 43 Landros Mare Street, Polokwane 015 291 7509 SASSA North West 1st Industrial Site, Mahikeng 018 388 4006 SASSA Free State Cnr St. Andrew Street & Aliwal Street, Bloemfontein 051 410 8339 SASSA North West Perm Building, 33 Du Toitspan Road, Kimberley 053 802 4919 SASSA KwaZulu-Natal 1 Bank Street, Pietermaritzburg 033 846 3324 SASSA Western Cape Golden Acre, Adderley Street, Cape Town 021 469 0235 * Info courtesy of SASSA Be sure to diarise SASSA grant payments all the way to March 2026. This includes banking and personal information, which is cross-referenced monthly with SARS, banks and the DHA. And you must respond quickly to any verification requests. In turn, if you have not received payment, contact your nearest SASSA branch as soon as possible to resolve the issue. If all else fails, you can always try: SASSA toll-free number: 080 060 1011 . .
