'War 2' advance booking report Day 1: Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer sells 1.26 lakh tickets; collections touch Rs 8.50 crore ahead of realease

With the clock ticking down to the release of 'War 2', the buzz is at an all-time high. The next big chapter in Yash Raj Films' Spy Universe, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR , and helmed by Ayan Mukerji, has taken a solid headstart at the box office. The action entertainer, which opened ticket sales on Sunday, has already crossed 1.26 lakh tickets sold. As per early estimates on Sacnilk, collections from advance sales had touched Rs 4.1 crore by Tuesday, with two days still to go before the film's release. While the numbers seem modest for an early start, according to the report, box office numbers are expected to rise even further with blocked seats pushing the tally to Rs 8.54 crore. Early booking When sales opened on August 10, the film raced to the Rs 33.05 lakh mark within hours. Since then, demand has surged, especially in the Hindi belt. Format-wise performance The Hindi 2D version has emerged as the biggest revenue driver so far, bringing in an estimated Rs 3.19 crore. The Hindi IMAX format, has added another Rs 32.70 lakh to the tally. Among the dubbed versions, the Telugu release has shown a strong response, grossing around Rs 43.35 lakh, while the Tamil version has registered more modest figures at approximately Rs 6.74 lakh. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Unsold 2021 Cars Now Almost Free - Prices May Surprise You Unsold Cars | Search Ads Learn More Undo Meanwhile, screenings in premium formats such as ICE, Dolby Cinema, and 4DX have collectively contributed an estimated Rs 7.53 lakh. Top-performing states Maharashtra leads the charts with Rs 1.73 crore, followed by Delhi, earning Rs 1.44 crore and Karnataka scoring Rs 1.1 crore collection, with the inclusion of blocked seats. The release on August 14 sets up a direct showdown with Rajinikanth's 'Coolie'. While 'War 2' is expected to dominate the Hindi-speaking markets, 'Coolie' will have the upper hand in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The Telugu states could see the fiercest competition, with both films rolling out aggressive promotions and competitive ticket pricing. Screen advantage According to distribution reports, 'War 2' has locked 90% of single screens and 80–85% of multiplex screens in the Hindi circuit. Premium formats including IMAX, 4DX, ICE, and Dolby Cinema will give audiences a high-octane viewing experience. International markets In North America, as of August 11, 'War 2' had raked in USD 398.5K in pre-sales from nearly 15,000 tickets sold for 1,820 shows across 680+ locations in the US. Including Canada, pre-sales stood at USD 435K and are expected to approach the USD 500K mark before release. Premiere day earnings are projected to hover around USD 900K, based on current trends. However, 'Coolie' is currently far ahead in the region, with USD 1.85 million in premiere pre-sales and on track to cross USD 2 million — one of the highest tallies for an Indian film in the market. Late but wide release Unlike other big-ticket releases that open bookings well in advance, War 2 began selling tickets just four days before release. The Hindi version alone is expected to open on a massive 5,000 screens across India. Censor details The CBFC cleared the film with a U/A 16+ rating on August 6, 2025, and a runtime of 2 hours, 59 minutes, 49 seconds.

Mobile theatre revolutionary Hemanta passes away at 83

1 2 Guwahati: Assamese dramatist Hemanta Dutta, whose theatrical rendition of James Cameron's Titanic on the stage of the Kohinoor theatre group in 1998 brought a revolution to Assam's unique travelling theatre industry, breathed his last at 83 on Monday. Dutta achieved the seemingly impossible by recreating cinematic spectacles like helicopter landings and the sinking Atlantic on a modest mobile theatre stage while staging Titanic. The eminent cultural figure of the state, Dutta was undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. He was awarded the state's second-highest civilian award, Assam Sourav, earlier this year. Born in 1942 in Kharupetia, Darrang district, Dutta penned over 100 plays and composed more than 500 songs. He was widely admired for his innovative adaptations, including bringing James Cameron's Titanic to Assam's mobile theatre stage — an achievement that demonstrated his creative daring and commitment to popularising theatre. Director Tapan Lahkar, son of Ratan Lahkar — one of the pioneers of the mobile theatre industry — told TOI that Dutta's demise will create a vacuum in the mobile theatre industry as no one would be able to measure up. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo "Dutta Khura (uncle) and Ratan Lahkar, founder of the Kohinoor mobile theatre group, were the two sides of the same coin. Working in tandem, they took the mobile theatre industry to the next level through dramatic and thematic innovation, besides introducing technical experiments on the stage," he added. Lahkar said staging Titanic in 1998 brought a revolution to the mobile theatre industry, as until then, nobody could imagine such technical work on a mobile theatre stage. "Besides Titanic, the plays Ramayana and Mahabharat were classic examples of their imagination, experiment, and dedication. There was no television in households when those plays were staged," he added. He said Dutta's notable works include the plays Eta Nasta Lorar Galpa, Path, Titanic, Hendur, Akakhor Dore Mon, and Mukti, and film songs for movies such as Hiya Diya Niya, Jiban Surabhi, and Nayak. Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal, while mourning Dutta's demise, said the state has lost a torch-bearer in the cultural field. Besides him, people from every section of the society mourned the demise of Dutta. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
