Robert Downey Jr's Doctor Doom In The Fantastic Four: First Steps? What We Know

Last Updated: Directed by Matt Shakman, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will officially kick off Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps is coming soon, and excitement has grown after a recent public test screening in Los Angeles. Some believe the screening was held because the studio is unsure if the movie will connect with audiences. But soon after the screening, details about the movie's post-credits scene started appearing online. According to Super Hero Hype, quoting popular scooper MyTimeToShineHello, the scene shows Sue Storm (played by Vanessa Kirby) reading to her son Franklin, who is also the child of Reed Richards, played by Pedro Pascal. When she briefly leaves the room, she returns to find Doctor Doom sitting beside Franklin, holding his mask. The leak also says that Doom's outfit is 'very comic accurate." While it has already been confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. will take on the role of Doctor Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), this post-credits scene does not show his face, as per the scooper. Chris Evans, who played the Human Torch in the 2000s Fantastic Four movies, may or may not appear in First Steps. The scooper said, 'I know for a fact he filmed something, so it was either cut or will be in the final version of the film." Chris Evans is better known as Captain America in the MCU, but he also played the Human Torch in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). The post-credits scene of the last MCU movie, Thunderbolts* (also called The New Avengers), showed the team receiving a distress signal from the Fantastic Four's spacecraft. Because of this, many fans thought The Fantastic Four: First Steps would end with the destruction of the Fantastic Four's reality, which forced them to escape to the main MCU timeline. But based on the leaked details from First Steps' post-credits scene, it looks like the Fantastic Four will succeed in saving their world from Galactus. Doom's arrival and the possible kidnapping of Franklin might be what pushes the team to travel to Earth-616 to warn others. The film is set in a 1960s-style, retro-futuristic world. Alongside Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby, the film will see Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach in the role of Ben Grimm/The Thing. Together, they must stop Galactus (Ralph Ineson), a cosmic being who plans to devour the planet along with the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). Directed by Matt Shakman, The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theatres on July 25 and will officially kick off Phase 6 of the MCU. About the Author First Published: May 30, 2025, 16:55 IST

Kevin Feige realises a longtime dream as The Fantastic Four joins the Marvel cinematic universe

Marvel Studios is set to usher in a bold new chapter of its ever-expanding cinematic universe with The Fantastic Four: First Steps. At the heart of this ambitious revival stands Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, who has called the chance to bring the iconic superhero team into the Marvel fold a 'dream realised'. Feige, who has steered Marvel from modest origins to global box office dominance, describes the acquisition of 20th Century Fox by Disney as a game-changing moment — one that not only reunited beloved characters with their original home but opened the door to reinterpret them for a new era. 'It came at just the right time,' he said, reflecting on the importance of the Fantastic Four to Marvel's DNA. 'They were the original cornerstone of what became the Marvel Universe. We have to get this right.' This isn't Feige's first brush with Marvel's First Family. He served as a producer on the earlier cinematic outings of the Fantastic Four in the 2000s. Those films, though commercially successful, were shaped by a time when superhero stories still tiptoed around their comic book roots. 'There was a reluctance back then to fully embrace the more imaginative elements,' Feige admitted. 'Now, we have the freedom and the audience to bring these ideas to life without compromise.' Indeed, this latest interpretation promises a bold return to the team's quirky and cosmic origins. Drawing on the retro-futurist stylings of their 1960s comic debut, the film aims to combine vintage charm with modern spectacle. And at the centre of it all: the team's legendary nemesis, Galactus — no longer a mysterious cloud, but a towering, menacing force true to his source material. 'Some might have once thought it too eccentric,' Feige said of the classic design. 'But that's exactly what makes it brilliant.' Under the direction of Matt Shakman (WandaVision), The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces an all-new cast in these iconic roles. Pedro Pascal takes on the mantle of the brilliant but conflicted Reed Richards, with Vanessa Kirby as the resilient Sue Storm. Joseph Quinn lights up the screen as the fiery Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach brings grit and heart to Ben Grimm, aka The Thing. The film pits the family against Galactus, a world-consuming cosmic entity played by Ralph Ineson, and his enigmatic Herald, the Silver Surfer, portrayed by Julia Garner. The stakes are sky-high, but the story, Feige promises, remains rooted in the strength of the team's familial bonds. 'It's not just about saving the world,' he said. 'It's about staying together when the world is falling apart.' Produced by Feige himself, alongside executive producers Louis D'Esposito, Grant Curtis, and Tim Lewis, the film aims to reinvigorate the legacy of Marvel's earliest heroes with flair, fidelity, and fresh energy. The Fantastic Four: First Steps lands in Indian cinemas on 25 July 2025, releasing in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. With its unique mix of heart, humour and high-stakes heroism, it's poised to be one of Marvel's most defining entries yet — and perhaps its most 'fantastic' one too.

Box Office: Sinners earns USD 1.1M on 6th Wednesday, surpasses Joker and Oppenheimer among R-rated films

Ryan Coogler's supernatural horror film Sinners continues to defy expectations at the US box office, posting a strong USD 1.1 million on its sixth Wednesday. Despite a significant 40.5 percent drop from the previous Wednesday and losing a harsh 886 theaters on Friday, Sinners achieved the second biggest sixth Wednesday ever for an R-rated film. It surpassed major hits like Joker, Oppenheimer, and Deadpool & Wolverine, all of which had made under USD 1 million at the same point in their run. Sinners only trailed behind The Passion of the Christ, which recorded USD 1.3 million on its sixth Wednesday. Sinners also ranks as the third biggest sixth Wednesday for April releases, holding strong alongside heavyweights like Infinity War (USD 1.1M, -26.7 percent) and The Super Mario Bros. Movie (USD 1.1M, -45.5 percent). The film's resilience is notable given the increasing competition and its impending digital release, which has impacted the number of cinemas housing the film. Nevertheless, the horror mega hit has already amassed a domestic cumulative gross of USD 261 million and is expected to reach around USD 280 million in the US, contingent on how the market acts over the weekend. Set in 1932 in the Mississippi Delta, Sinners stars Michael B. Jordan in dual roles as criminal brothers Smoke and Stack, who return to their hometown to start a fresh life but face a haunting evil instead. The ensemble cast includes Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O'Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller, and Delroy Lindo, contributing to the film's rich and suspenseful narrative. Coogler produced, wrote, and directed the film. He began developing Sinners through his production company Proximity Media in early 2024 before Warner Bros. Pictures snagged the distribution rights after an intense bidding war. Principal photography took place between April and July of the same year. The film's haunting score was composed by longtime Coogler collaborator Ludwig Göransson, who also served as an executive producer. Released stateside on April 18, Sinners has received widespread critical acclaim for its atmospheric storytelling, strong performances, and innovative blend of historical drama, musical evil, and suspense. Globally, the film has grossed an impressive USD 341 million, making it the seventh highest-grossing film of 2025 so far. With Sinners continuing to perform steadily in its sixth week, it has firmly established itself as a major box office phenomenon, proving that well-crafted horror with a compelling narrative can even dominate in a crowded market.
