Nebraska quarterback recruit to announce future destination
A Nebraska quarterback target will announce his college choice on Thursday afternoon. Class of 2027 four-star quarterback Trae Taylor is announcing his commitment on May 1 at 3:30 p.m. CT.
Taylor is deciding among four potential suitors. The QB will choose the Illinois Fighting Illini, the LSU Tigers, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, or the Texas A&M Aggies for his college destination.
According to the On3 recruiting rankings, he is ranked as the No. 3 player in the state of Illinois for 2027 and the No. 12 quarterback in the country. Last season, Taylor threw for 3,061 yards and 20 touchdowns for Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, IL.
Taylor was in Lincoln this past weekend for the Husker Games. On3's Steve Wiltfong put in a prediction that the quarterback will commit to Nebraska.
Taylor is announcing his commitment on the 247Sports YouTube channel on Thursday, May 1, at 3:30 p.m. CT.

4 Chargers players with most on the line vs. 49ers
The regular season is just a couple of weeks away, which means the preseason is nearly over. This weekend's preseason finale against the 49ers still brings plenty of storylines to look forward to. The 53-man roster will be finalized soon, meaning this weekend's game is a big one for those competing to make the team. Let's look at what four Chargers players have the most on the line against the 49ers on Saturday. QB Taylor Heinicke Heinicke has seemingly lost the backup job to Trey Lance over the last month. While he still has an outside shot at that No. 2 job, just making the 53-man roster is more important at this point. The team could very well opt to carry just two quarterbacks, which would all but end Heinicke's tenure in Los Angeles. We'll see how he performs and who officially takes over that role as the primary backup to quarterback Justin Herbert. CB Ja'Sir Taylor It's been a back-and-forth few months for Taylor. He's spent all three years of his NFL career with the Chargers, but he was tabbed as a possible cut candidate heading into the summer. Taylor has had plenty of bright moments in training camp, but then some troubles in the preseason. He has experience both at cornerback and on special teams, which bodes well for his 53-man roster chances. With a strong performance in the preseason finale, he may be able to solidify his spot. S Tony Jefferson You'll notice a common theme here, with three seasoned veterans, all of whom were with the team in 2024. The safety features three locks with Jefferson and rookie RJ Mickens, then fighting to make the 53-man roster. Both of them deserve to make the team, it's just a matter of whether the team wants to keep five safeties or not. Jefferson still brings some value on special teams in addition to his veteran leadership. He played 224 defensive snaps as well in 2024, so he still has some game left at safety. EDGE Kyle Kennard This summer hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows for Kennard, the fourth-round pick out of South Carolina. Presumed to be the fourth edge rusher behind Khalil Mack, Tuli Tuipulotu and Bud Dupree, Kennard has failed to make his presence known. He has missed all preseason games except for the Hall of Fame Game due to an undisclosed injury. Meanwhile, Caleb Murphy has been chipping away to secure the role. Assuming that he is healthy enough to play in the preseason finale, Kennard must deliver a solid performance to try to earn it.

Joe Burrow to sit in Bengals' preseason finale after controversial play sparked outrage
Joe Burrow won't be running for his life this week. The Bengals' star quarterback will not play in the third and final preseason game Saturday against the Colts following the polarizing decision to play Burrow for three drives in the second game Monday. Burrow left himself exposed while trying to scramble on one play, and three Commanders players sacked him in a vicious hit that had some fans questioning the team's decision. 'I'm not anticipating any starters playing,' Bengals coach Zac Taylor said Wednesday. 'I haven't talked in depth with the players about this third game. I've talked to Joe, I haven't specifically told these guys they're not playing, but they're not playing.' 3 Joe Burrow braces for the hit. AP Taylor opted to change Cincinnati's preseason plan this year after the team started 0-2 in each of the last three seasons, which has led to two straight years without postseason play. Instead of keeping Burrow sidelined like other teams do with their star quarterbacks, such as Buffalo with Josh Allen, the Bengals have had their $275 million man playing in exhibition games. Burrow played in two series in the preseason opener against the Eagles on Aug. 7, and then three Monday against Washington, including the controversial play. 3 Burrow on the run from defenders. AP Instead of sliding, Burrow attempted to extend a play on third down and ultimately had three defenders take him to the turf. 'Go down, Joe, it's August,' ESPN announcer Joe Buck said. Taylor did not enjoy watching that play, but noted the preseason is intended for those types of moments so players can learn. 'It's one of those things for him, that's what preseason football's for. Do I love seeing that? No, I don't,' Taylor said. 'But, at the same time, he's out there learning what he can and can't do and we've seen him get out of that stuff before and that's why he's playing in the preseason, for a chance to feel what it's like to feel in a game and there's times where he gets out of that and gets a big play and times where we're in a tough spot at the two-yard line. He gets a chance to feel all that and learn from it. 'I think it was three good series that we'll continue to learn from.' 3 Cincinnati coach Zac Taylor. Sam Greene/The Enquirer / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images This season will be a critical one for the Bengals, who have disappointed the past two years following back-to-back runs to the Super Bowl and AFC Championship in the 2021 and 2022 playoffs, respectively. The Bengals have star players in Burrow and receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, but a faulty defense has failed them. That porous defense is a major reason why ESPN analyst Ryan Clark said the team is 'absolutely' wasting Burrow's prime years. Cincinnati opens the season Sept. 7 at Cleveland. 'I feel good about where our team's at right now,' Taylor said. 'I'm excited to get through the preseason and go play games because I see what I see in practice. So, I'm just really excited from top to bottom about a lot of the players we have.'

Two Georgia Bulldogs make freshman All-American team
Georgia football will have to rely on some young players contributing to reach their goals for the season. On3 dropped their freshman All-American team and Georgia has two players on that list. On offense, offensive lineman Juan Gaston was a selection. The freshman is listed at 6-foot-7, 360-pounds is in a three-man competition for the starting right guard job. Gaston has amazing size and head coach Kirby Smart has said that he has been getting into better shape since being an early enrollee. Gaston was ranked a five-star recruit and the nation's No. 18 ranked player, per 247Sports. On defense, highly-touted defensive lineman Elijah Griffin was another Georgia freshman All-American selection. The 6-foot-4, 310-pound defensive lineman already has drawn comparisons to Georgia great and All-Pro defensive tackle Jalen Carter. Griffin is the headliner of this freshmen class that could see several key contributors for the Bulldogs. Expect to see Griffin, a former five-star recruit, to put his talent on display on Saturday for the Bulldogs early and often. Griffin was ranked as the consensus No. 1 defensive lineman and a top-five recruit across all recruiting services. Three Georgia Bulldogs also earned USA TODAY Sports preseason All-American honors.
