Jay Chou's 90YO grandpa-in-law wins gold & silver medals at World Masters Games

Taiwanese singer Jay Chou's grandfather-in-law Laurence Quinlivan, 90, showed that age is just a number.
The nonagenarian recently took part in the World Masters Games 2025, an Olympics adjacent event for athletes mostly over 30, held in Taipei and New Taipei City in Taiwan from May 17 to 30.
He won a gold medal for javelin and a silver medal for the 100m sprint for the 90+ age group on the first day of the event on May 18.
Chou, 46, congratulated Quinlivan for his achievements on Instagram Stories on May 18.
Quinlivan is the grandfather of Chou's wife, Taiwanese-Australian model-actress Hannah Quinlivan, 31. Her father is Australian and her mother is of Chinese and Korean descent.
Chou posted a photo of Quinlivan being interviewed by the media, with the caption: '@hannah_quinlivan's grandpa is awesome.'
Hannah Quinlivan also uploaded a video of her grandfather taking part in the 100m sprint, with the caption: 'Thank you for cheering for grandpa.'
Quinlivan showed that it was no fluke when he won another silver medal for the 200m sprint for the same age group on May 19. He will be taking part in shot put and discus later in the week. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network View this post on Instagram

BATTING legend Virat Kohli top-scored for Royal Challengers Bengaluru as they beat Punjab Kings by six runs on Tuesday to win their first Indian Premier League T20 title. Kohli's 43 from 35 balls at the top of the order set up Bengaluru for an imposing total of 190-9 which was one big blow too many for a Punjab side that battled until the end, finishing on 184-7. More than 91,000 fans packed into the 132,000-capacity stadium in Ahmedabad, a sea of Bengaluru's red and Kohli's jersey number 18 dominating the stands as chants of 'Kohli, Kohli' rang out. They celebrated noisily when Kohli and RCB clinched victory for the first time in the 18 years of the IPL, their three previous finals having all ended in defeat. The 36-year-old Kohli, one of India's all-time greats in all formats of the game, collapsed on the ground after the win and then got up to be hugged by his teammates as the crowd celebrated their hero. Punjab faltered in their chase after left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya took 2-17 from his four overs. Shashank Singh hit a valiant 61 not out and finished with three sixes and a four off Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood who defended 29 runs in the final over. Kohli's vigil ended when he mistimed a rising delivery from Afghanistan pace bowler Azmatullah Omarzai for a caught and bowled, the disappointment etched across his face mirrored by his fans. Jamieson took his third wicket to cut short Liam Livingstone's rampant 25 off 15 balls. Wickets kept tumbling as wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma fell for a 10-ball 24 and Romario Shepherd for 17 off nine balls. Left-arm quick Arshdeep Singh took three wickets including Shepherd in the 20th over and gave away just three runs. Bengaluru had defeated Punjab in the first playoff to book their fourth final. The 18th edition of the world's richest cricket league ended nine days late due to a pause because of the military conflict between India and Pakistan.

The global body, which will oversee boxing competitions in the 2028 Olympics after being granted provisional recognition by the International Olympic Committee, made the announcement last week, less than a year after Khelif won gold in Paris amid a gender-eligibility row. The announcement specifically said the body had sent a letter to the Algerian Boxing Federation saying Khelif "may not participate in the female category" of any World Boxing event until she undergoes the test. However, a source said World Boxing president Boris van der Vorst had personally written to Algerian Boxing Federation president Abdelkader Abbas to apologise for including Khelif's name. Van der Vorst said World Boxing should have made a greater effort to protect Khelif's privacy. In last week's announcement, World Boxing said all athletes over the age of 18 will have to undertake a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) genetic test, which can be conducted by a nasal or mouth swab, saliva or blood. Khelif and the Algerian Boxing Federation could not be immediately reached for comment. The country's federation joined World Boxing in September, one of more than 100 national federations that have joined the body since it was established in 2023.
