Two bikers snatch BTech student's mobile
Police said that the complainant, Tanmay, a native of Indore, is currently residing in the hostel of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) and pursuing BTech.
Tanmay and a friend were returning to the hostel on a scooter after visiting Platinum Plaza. While he was near the petrol pump and talking to a friend on his phone, two men on a motorcycle approached. The pillion rider snatched the phone and sped away.
The stolen phone is reportedly worth Rs25,000.

Malegaon cops arrest three men carrying over 3,000 alprazolam tablets
Nashik: Three individuals were arrested from Malegaon city on Thursday for allegedly possessing over 3,000 alprazolam tablets. These pills, commonly known as Kutta Goli, are used for managing anxiety, panic attacks and depression and are frequently found being sold illegally in the city. Malegaon police registered a case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused were identified as Naeem Ahmed (35), Muzzamil Hussain (28), and Shahbaz Sharif (30), all residents of Islampura, Malegaon. PI Pratapsingh Bahure said: "On a tip-off, the three people were arrested on Thursday afternoon from a dilapidated building on the old Agra road in the textile town. Among other things, 3,000 alprazolam tablets worth over Rs7,000 were seized from them." When asked from whom the tablets were procured, the trio said the seller was an unidentified person from outside Malegaon, ploce said. Senior police officers said under the guidance of additional SP of Malegaon, Teghbir Singh Sandhu, a special squad was formed on March 5 this year. The squad has busted multiple drug-related cases till Aug 4. With the help of the special squad, seven NDPS cases have been registered, and eight people have been arrested, from whom drugs worth over Rs6.7 lakh have been seized. Man trampled to death by elephant in Gudalur; forest dept launches toll free number to report conflicts
Udhagamandalam: A 62-year-old man was trampled to death by a wild elephant while he was working at a tea estate at New Hope in the O'Valley forest range in Gudalur in the Nilgiris around 9.30am on Monday. This is the second such incident in the locality in the past three days. Forest range officer C Veeramani identified the deceased as Mani, 62, a temporary worker at the Manjushree tea estate in Gudalur. He said the forest field staff had noticed the movement of a wild elephant in the area and sent SMS alerts to the local people around 7.30am. "It is likely that Mani missed the alert." Mani's body was sent to the govt hospital at Gudalur for a postmortem. The forest department has issued an initial compensation of Rs50,000 to the victim's family. The Nilgiris forest division, meanwhile, launched a toll-free number – 18004254343 – on Monday to address man-animal conflicts. Unveiled by Supriya Sahu, additional chief secretary to the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Forests, the public could contact the toll-free number to report man-animal conflicts round the clock. In recent times, locals have reported encounters with leopards and sloth bears, which stray into residential areas, causing fear and disrupting daily life. "We may receive calls from the Gudalur forest division and the MTR buffer zone as well. In such cases, we will redirect the calls to the respective forest ranges or divisions," said district forest officer S Gowtham. Police arrest chain snatchers
Pune: Sinhagad Road police arrested two bike-borne men for allegedly snatching a gold chain worth Rs60,000 from an elderly woman at Narhe on Aug 4. The suspects, both from Dhayari, were taken into custody following a tip-off. The chain and a bike, worth Rs 30,000, used in the crime, were recovered.
