Johor police to increase presence at seven key areas for Visit Johor 2026
He stated that the police aim to assure all visitors and investors that Johor is a safe place to visit.
"This omnipresence of police personnel is targeted in areas frequently visited by the public," he said after attending the state-level monthly police assembly here on Wednesday (June 18).
Among the areas included are the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (BSI) complex, Bazar Karat, KSL City Mall, Angsana Mall, Berjaya Waterfront, Midvalley Southkey, and Plaza Sentosa.
He added that the initiative, which started on June 14, involves about 80 policemen who patrol the areas and meet with premises owners.
"This will be above and beyond our patrols conducted by our mobile patrol and motorcycle units," he said, urging the public to reach out to these policemen on foot patrol if they need assistance.
Comm Kumar said that so far, there have been no reported crime cases in all these seven places since the initiative started.
He added that they hope to involve personnel from the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) and marine units and expand this omnipresence initiative to all 10 districts.
Meanwhile, Comm Kumar urged the public not to quickly believe information from social media or unverified sources.
He noted that people these days are using Artificial Intelligence (AI) for scamming.
"People need to be careful. Always verify before you transfer money, even to your friends who suddenly message you asking for money.
"Their mobile phones could have been hacked, and with their contact details, scammers could be impersonating and asking for money," he said, adding that people should always seek direct verification from the person before making any transfers.
Asked about the recent fake TikTok video of him making statements about aid channelled from an individual known as Datuk Malik, allegedly created using AI, he said investigations are ongoing.
He stressed that the video circulating was manipulated and false.
The video has been altered using AI to make it appear as though Comm Kumar made the statements, but he categorically denied releasing any such comments.
Meanwhile, in his speech, Comm Kumar said that for the first five months of this year, the criminal investigations department achieved a 59.64% solving rate of index crimes, while the narcotics crime investigation department arrested about 10,794 people and seized RM83.18mil worth of drugs.
They also forfeited some RM7.49mil worth of valuables.
"During the same time, they busted 21 drug syndicates and seized some RM81.07mil worth of drugs," he added.
During the event, he also gave commendation letters to policemen and members of the media, including Star Media Group's Johor Bureau Chief Nelson Benjamin.

Over 1,400 Singapore vehicles fined for missing VEP RFID tags [WATCH]
JOHOR BARU: A total of 1,489 summonses have been issued by the Road Transport Department (RTD) against Singapore-registered vehicles found without the installation and activation of the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) RFID tag. The summonses were issued between July 1 and yesterday as part of the department's VEP Enforcement Operation targeting foreign vehicles from Singapore at the Malaysia-Singapore land border. According to RTD senior enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan, the total value of summonses collected during the month-long operation has reached RM445,800. He said 14,379 Singaporean vehicles had been inspected outside both Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complexes – Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) and Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB) – as well as throughout the district. "Just tonight, 15 summonses were issued to Singaporean vehicles entering Malaysia without the required VEP RFID tag installed and activated. "So far, among the 1,489 vehicle owners or drivers summoned, most have given a similar excuse — that they were unaware the Malaysian government had begun enforcement, mistakenly believing we were still in the advocacy phase. "But that is no longer the case. We are taking firm action with zero tolerance. No more warnings — summonses are issued immediately, and offenders are required to settle them on the spot," he said. Muhammad Kifli made the remarks at a press conference during a vehicle inspection under the VEP Enforcement Operation at the BSI exit ramp last night. He added that nearly 90 per cent of privately registered Singapore vehicles have already obtained and activated their VEP RFID tags. As of July 31, RTD had issued a total of 277,930 VEP RFID tags to vehicle owners in Singapore, covering both privately owned and company vehicles. "From our observations, most Singapore-registered vehicles leaving Johor Baru already have active VEP RFID tags. However, within certain areas in the district, there are still vehicles that have not been registered. "Once a summons is issued, most comply by immediately installing and activating their VEP. "Of all those summoned, only one individual initially refused to cooperate, but when we moved to seize the vehicle, they eventually complied, paid the summons, and proceeded to register their VEP," he explained. Muhammad Kifli confirmed that enforcement operations would continue until further notice. "We will continue to inspect Singaporean vehicles at key locations frequented by Singaporeans. "Therefore, we urge all foreign vehicle owners to register, install and activate their VEP RFID tags without delay to avoid any inconvenience when entering or exiting Malaysia. "It is an offence to drive a foreign-registered vehicle into or within Malaysia without a valid permit, under Section 66H(7) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum fine of RM300," he added. On June 4, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced that full enforcement of the VEP at the Malaysia-Singapore land border would begin on July 1.

JPJ senior director of Enforcement Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said 14,379 Singapore-registered vehicles were inspected near the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) as well as in Johor Bahru city. 'Of the 1,489 owners or drivers summoned, most failed to install and activate the VEP RFID tag. Many believed enforcement had not yet begun,' he said. One individual initially refused to cooperate but later complied when officers threatened to seize the vehicle. Muhammad Kifli noted that nearly 90% of Singapore-registered private vehicles now have the VEP RFID tag. As of July 31, 277,930 tags have been issued to Singaporean owners.
