Kin of Punjab farmer who crossed over to Pakistan seeks MEA's intervention
Amritpal Singh, from Khaire ke Uttar village in Punjab's Ferozepur district, went missing along the India-Pakistan border on June 21. He had gone to tend his farmland located across the barbed fencing near Border Outpost (BOP) Rana under Border Security Force supervision.
He failed to return before the gate was scheduled to close around 5 pm.
The Border Security Force (BSF) personnel later found human footprints heading towards the Pakistani side, raising the possibility of an unintentional border crossing.
The BSF held three to four flag meetings with Pakistani Rangers, who initially denied any sightings of an unknown person.
On June 27, the Pakistani Rangers confirmed to the BSF authorities that Amritpal Singh was in the custody of local police. Sub-divisional magistrate (Guru Har Sahai) Udaydeep Singh Sidhu along with other officials on Saturday visited Amritpal's residence in Ferozepur.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is cognizant of the situation and the state government is in touch with the Union External Affairs Ministry to bring him back from Pakistan, they told the family. Amritpal's father Jugraj Singh urged the district officials that the state government should discuss the matter with the Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to ensure his son's return.
Amritpal is married and has a three-month-old daughter. He owns around 8.5 acres of farmland located beyond the border fencing on the Indian side.
He had left on his bike that afternoon but did not return in the evening. The BSF even reopened the frisking gate before dusk in search of him, but he could not be found, his father said.
During summer months, farmers are allowed to access land between the barbed-wire fence and the international border under strict BSF monitoring between 8 am and 5 pm.
Several farmers from border districts including Fazilka, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Amritsar and Tarn Taran have agricultural land in this area, known as the 'zero line.'

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy heading to Delhi to push for early clearances of pending projects
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is scheduled to visit New Delhi for two days on Monday and Tuesday (July 7 and 8) to hold key discussions with Union ministers regarding clearances for several pending infrastructure and development projects. During his visit, the Chief Minister is expected to pitch for speedy approval of the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II project. The detailed project report (DPR) has already been submitted to the Centre, and the State government is hopeful of receiving prompt clearance to kickstart expansion works. This is one of the key infrastructure projects that the Chief Minister is pushing for. The Chief Minister may also meet Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for clearance of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project. With the Telangana government recently proposing to upgrade the RRR to a three-lane road on each side from the originally planned two-lane road, Mr. Reddy is expected to seek urgent Central approval and cooperation for this vital infrastructure initiative. The government has already declared that the area between the present Outer Ring Road (ORR) and the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR) will be the new Hyderabad that promises to ease congestion and boost connectivity around the city. Apart from project-related meetings, the Chief Minister is also likely to invite the Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi for the public meeting planned on July 14 to launch the distribution of new ration cards. The meeting is being held at Tungaturthy in Suryapet district to give new ration cards extending food security benefits to more families. Sources in the Chief Minister's Office said he may meet several other Union ministers though nothing has been finalised so far. The Chief Minister is scheduled to leave Hyderabad after participating in the Vana Mahotsavam programme on Monday. Only officials will accompany the Chief Minister and there is no confirmation on his Cabinet colleagues joining him.

New Delhi [India], July 6 (ANI): Amid the ongoing language row, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Sunday criticised Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray for his recent remarks, calling them controversial and promoting 'dadagiri' (bullying). Athawale said that forcing people to speak Marathi is wrong and he also questioned Uddhav Thackeray's silence on attacks against Hindus and said strict action should be taken against MNS workers involved in violence. Ramdas Athawale questioned Raj Thackeray's stance, asking if he would provide jobs to all if industries close due to such incidents. Athawale also targeted Uddhav Thackeray, asking what he's doing to protect Hindus despite his father Balasaheb Thackeray's efforts for the community. Athawale emphasized the need for strict action against MNS party workers involved in such incidents. Speaking to ANI, Ramdas Athawale said, 'Raj Thackeray made a highly controversial statement, which encourages those who engage in 'dadgiri'. He is a politician, and hence he should avoid such things. Athawale's remarks come after Raj Thackeray's statement at the Mumbai reunion rally, where he said, 'Be it a Gujarati or anyone else here, must know Marathi, but there is no need to beat people for that if they don't speak Marathi. Yet, if someone does some drama, you must hit them below their eardrums.' Shiv Sena (UBT) Chief Uddhav Thackeray shared the stage with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray, marking a reunion after years of political separation.
