Dolly Parton named Guinness World Records Icon
As part of its 70th anniversary celebrations, the company, which lists world record achievements, has honoured the Jolene singer, 79, with an Icon certificate, presented to her at her studios in Nashville, Tennessee.
Her record titles include most consecutive decades with top 10 album entries on the Billboard country chart, most studio albums released by a female country singer, and most Grammy nominations for a female country artist.
She was also the first country singer to be nominated for the Egot – an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. As well as numerous musical awards, Dolly Parton also runs a children's literacy charity and 'Dollywood' theme park. / Credit: PA
Craig Glenday, editor in chief at Guinness World Records, said: 'Dolly is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated writers and performers in the history of country music, as reflected in her many Guinness World Records certificates, but her reach and influence extends far beyond the musical world.
'There are so many projects close to her heart – poverty relief, education, medical research and of course the Imagination Library free-books campaign – and it's these important, life-changing initiatives that propels Dolly into a different league. She truly is a living legend, and it's an honour to bestow Guinness World Records Icon status upon her.'
The Imagination Library initiative is a project begun by Dolly Parton that now sends free books to millions of children around the world.
Guinness World Records published its first book in London in 1955 and has sold more than 143 million copies in over 100 countries since then.
The Icon certificate has previously been awarded to stars including Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Drake, Sir Paul McCartney, and Sir Elton John.
Parton, who is from Tennessee, released her debut album, Hello, I'm Dolly, in 1967 and had a run of hits in the 1970s.
By the 1980s, she was a huge star and made her movie debut in the screwball comedy 9 to 5.
Her most recent album was Rockstar, released in 2023, and she recently featured in a version of Sabrina Carpenter's Please Please Please. She is also the co-owner of the Dollywood Company, which operates Dollywood, a theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Kelly Clarkson cancels Las Vegas residency dates over ex-husband's illness
Kelly Clarkson is taking a pause from the spotlight to focus on her family during a difficult time. The American Idol champion, 43, announced in February that she would be taking up a residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, following in the footsteps of Celine Dion, Adele, Madonna, and Sir Elton John. But the Grammy-winning singer and talk show host has now announced that she is postponing the August dates of her Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The move, she said in a social media post, is due to health issues her ex-husband is experiencing. 'While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,' Clarkson wrote. 'I appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.' The postponed shows were scheduled for August 8-9 and residency is expected to resume in November, with performances set for the 7th, 8th, 14th, and 15th. According to Caesars Palace, fans with tickets to the postponed shows can hold onto them for newly announced 2026 dates or request a refund within 30 days. This isn't the first disruption in Clarkson's schedule this year. Earlier in 2025, she missed ten episodes of The Kelly Clarkson Show without explanation, prompting speculation about the cause of her absence. Additionally, at the beginning of July, she cancelled a Vegas show just 90 minutes before she was due to take to the stage. She began in a statement to her Instagram followers: 'We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans. 'I am beyond grateful that you always show up for me and I am devastated to have to postpone tonight and tomorrow's opening at Caesars. 'The prep and rehearsals have taken a toll on my voice. I want the shows to be perfect for y'all and I need to protect myself from doing serious damage so I am taking this weekend and next week to rest up so that we can deliver what you all deserve.' Now, her newest statement suggests that behind the scenes, she's been navigating more than just a packed schedule. Clarkson shares two children – daughter River Rose and son Remington Alexander – with ex Brandon Blackstock. The pair married in 2013 and separated in 2020, with their divorce finalized in 2022 after a protracted legal battle. While Clarkson has largely kept the details of her family life private, glimpses into her post-divorce reality have surfaced in recent interviews. In a January 2024 conversation with People, Clarkson described the split as 'extraordinarily hard.' 'You feel alone,' she said, 'and it's just a blessing to be able to have that outlet for those emotions that are overwhelming,' referencing her confessional album Chemistry, which explores heartbreak. On a March 2025 episode of Kylie Kelce's Not Gonna Lie podcast, Clarkson opened up further about the emotional toll of co-parenting, revealing how her children seem to give more leeway to their father when he's absent. 'Even from a young age, we didn't teach them, just innately you're like . . . he's allowed to be somewhere, but you're not?' she said. 'That is like real interesting.' More Trending She added, with a touch of sarcasm: 'Co-parenting is fun! It's like, 'Oh, he couldn't come cause of this.' I'm like, 'OK, cool. What! Do you think I just leave and just sit in the park all day?'' Clarkson's divorce from Blackstock, who once served as her manager, was complex. In March 2023, she was awarded $2.6million in a dispute over improper commissions paid to Blackstock, after a California ruling found that he had secured deals that should have gone through her licensed talent agents at CAA. Though both parties reached a confidential settlement in May 2024, the saga had dragged on for years. For now, though, Clarkson is putting her role as a mother ahead of her on-stage duties. While some fans expressed disappointment at the delay, many have rallied around her with support, echoing her message of prioritising family first. Got a story?
