Maddox Mihalakis delivers clutch single and Arizona defeats North Carolina 10-8 to force Game 3

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Maddox Mihalakis drove in three runs, including two with a go-ahead single in the seventh inning, and Arizona defeated North Carolina 10-8 on Saturday, forcing a deciding game in the Chapel Hill Super Regional.
Game 3 is Sunday.
The Wildcats trailed 8-6 in the seventh inning but rallied with four runs. With two on and one out, Brendan Summerhill doubled down the left field line to score one run while Easton Breyfogle advanced to third. Breyfogle then scored on a wild pitch by Walter McDuffie to tie the score.
After a couple of walks loaded the bases, Mihalakis drove in two with a single to right field off of Folger Boaz.
Tony Pluta (3-0) pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings for the win.
McDuffie (3-2) took the loss.
The Tar Heels trailed 6-4 in the top of the seventh before scoring four runs to take the lead. Tyson Bass hit a three-run home run and Jackson Van De Brake drew a bases-loaded walk.
Tommy Splaine hit a two-run home run for Arizona.
North Carolina (46-14) is playing in a super regional for the 12th time, having advanced eight times previously.
It is Arizona's sixth super regional and the Wildcats (43-19) have won four of their previous five.

'I missed the short one on 17, and I did miss a couple more short ones today,' Manassero said. 'I try to think of them just like a shot really, like a driver, like a 6-iron, whatever. It's just a shot. So I don't want it to get in my head, and I don't want that to ruin anything or my attitude going towards the next shots.' Trying to win for the first time on the PGA Tour, the 32-year-old Italian player has eight international victories. 'I try to get a good attitude, a good thought process, talk well to myself. Very basic things,' Manassero said. 'I've matured a lot and I have a better perspective towards, for example, a day like tomorrow." Fox also birdied the 18th. The 38-year-old player from New Zealand won the Myrtle Beach Classic last month in a playoff for his first PGA Tour title. 'To be honest, everything went pretty right,' Fox said. 'I drove it great. I think if you do that round here, you give yourself lots of chances. Had a lot of good wedge shots, holed a few putts early. Just played really solid kind of stress-free golf for the most part.' Lee Hodges, Kevin Yu and Matt McCarty were a stroke back. Hodges and Yu shot 63, and McCarty had a 64. Canadian Mackenzie Hughes (64) was 12 under with Jake Knapp (66) and Andrew Putnam (68). 'I've been putting the ball in play quite a bit, driving it pretty nice,' Hughes said. 'I feel like that's taken some pressure off the putter and the short game. It's a big key around here. You start driving it well, you can attack and be aggressive.' Canadian Nick Taylor, the 2023 winner at Oakville, eagled the 18th for a 69 to get to 10 under. Arizona takes down Tar Heels, forcing Game 3 of Chapel Hill Super Regional
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCT) — Saturday was Game 2 of the Chapel Hill Super Regional between North Carolina and Arizona. A trip to Omaha was on the line for the Tar Heels while the Wildcats looked to force a decisive Game 3. UNC hammered Arizona 18-2 Friday and jumped out to a lead Saturday, leading 8-6 after the top of the seventh inning. The Wildcats had an answer in the bottom of the seventh as they scored four runs to pull ahead 10-8. That score held up to be the final, forcing a Game 3 Sunday. UNC's Tyson Bass and Sam Angelo each hit a home run with Bass driving in three runs for the game and Angelo two. Walker McDuffie took the loss on the mound for UNC. Arizona got a home run from Tommy Splaine and Tony Pluta was the winning pitcher. Game 3 will be Sunday at noon with the winner earning a trip to the College World Series. Ilhee Lee takes 1-shot lead over 4 players into the final round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic

(AP) — Ilhee Lee shot a 3-under 68 on Saturday in the ShopRite LPGA Classic in a round delayed by rain in the afternoon to take a one-stroke lead over four players into the final round. Tied for the first-round lead with Elizabeth Szokol after a 63, Lee rebounded from a double bogey on the par-4 eighth with a closing birdie on the par-5 ninth. The 36-year-old South Korean player had an 11-under 131 total on Seaview's Bay Course. 'Today was totally different day, completely different day, and I knew it was going to be completely different day, so I didn't have any expectations,' Lee said. 'Just like I did yesterday, I was just playing golf. Have fun out there. Made some birdies on first nine. ' She won the 2013 Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic for her lone tour title. 'Now I know how fun this game is, so I'm just enjoying golf,' Lee said. Szokol had a 69 to drop into a tie for second in the 54-hole event with fellow American Jennifer Kupcho (64) and Japanese players Mao Saigo (65) and Ayaka Furue (66). 'Just trying to stay patient all day,' Szokol said. 'Didn't quite have things go as great as yesterday but still playing really good golf.' Kupcho birdied the final two holes in her late afternoon round. 'I think a little bit of improvement to be made tomorrow,' Kupcho said. 'Wasn't hitting the ball super great off the tee, but at least out here it's manageable out of the rough or fairway bunkers. Was just really giving myself opportunities.' Second-ranked Jeeno Thitikul shot her second 68 to get to 6 under, while No. 1 Nelly Korda was 5 under after a 66. 'Very happy with how I played today, the past two days,' Korda said.
