Man goes back on promise to marry woman with ‘aggressive sexual trait'

New Delhi: Supreme Court has quashed rape charges against a man who had a consensual physical relationship with a 30-year-old woman but backed out of his marriage promise after observing her "aggressive sexual behaviour, obsessive nature, and manipulative and vindictive tendencies". Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Allowing the man's plea to quash the FIRs lodged against him by Cyberabad police in 2022 on the woman's complaints accusing him of establishing a physical relationship with the promise of marriage, a bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta said, "The facts on record clearly establish the vindictive and manipulative tendencies of the complainant and these aspects have a great bearing on the controversy." Writing the judgment, Justice Mehta said allowing the man's prosecution would be nothing but gross abuse of the process of law and the complaints were "nothing but a bundle of lies full of fabricated and malicious unsubstantiated allegations levelled by the complainant (woman)". The court was informed about a similar complaint the woman had lodged against an assistant professor at Osmania University in 2021, where she was studying. What rescued the man in the present case was the chats of the woman, who went by the name 'Muffin' on social media. In the chats, she admitted to being manipulative and her desire to "get a green card holder". "At one point of time, she also stated that it would not be difficult for her to trap the next one. In the very same breath, she mentions that she would not waste time with the accused appellant and needs to 'invest on the next victim'. She also mentions that she would irritate her victims to the extent that they dump her, and she could happily start with the next one. She also stated that she was using the accused appellant," the bench recorded in its judgment. "These chats depict the stark reality about the behavioural pattern of the de-facto complainant who appears to be having manipulative and vindictive tendencies. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Thus, in our opinion, the accused appellant was absolutely justified in panicking and backing out from the proposed marriage upon coming to know of the aggressive sexual behaviour and the obsessive nature of the de-facto complainant," Justices Nath and Mehta said. Quashing the FIRs, the SC said, "Hence, even assuming that the accused appellant retracted from his promise to marry the complainant, it cannot be said that he indulged in sexual intercourse with the de-facto complainant under a false promise of marriage or that the offence was committed by him with the de-facto complainant on the ground that she belonged to the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes community."

Kishan Reddy tars BRS, Congress in graft paint

Hyderabad: Union Minister and State BJP chief Kishan Reddy expressed that the BJP is celebrating Telangana Formation Day with enthusiasm and grandeur in all districts. He extended his best wishes to the people of Telangana on behalf of the BJP and called the movement for the formation of Telangana, as one that got etched in world history as a non-violent struggle. Addressing the party celebrations held at the BJP Telangana state office on Monday morning to commemorate Telangana Formation Day, he addressed the gathering after unfurling the national flag. Kishan Reddy recalled the sacrifices made by over 1,200 young people and students for Telangana, highlighting that the protests spanned from Osmania University to the Parliament in Delhi. Kishan Reddy noted that the BJP was the first national party to actively participate in the Telangana movement, joining the Joint Action Committee (JAC) alongside other parties. He also mentioned that the BJP raised its voice in Parliament for essential resources like water, funding, and job appointments. However, after the formation of the state, he remarked that only KCR family's interests were served, and the people did not see the expected benefits. He expressed frustration over the misuse of thousands of crores of rupees in the name of water projects. Kishan Reddy recalled that when the police used rubber bullets and batons on students at Osmania University during the movement, BJP MPs nationwide stood in solidarity with the youth of Telangana. He urged that after 11 years of Telangana's formation, it is time for the people and intellectuals to reflect on the situation. He alleged that the 'golden Telangana' promised by KCR has not been realised; instead, only his family has flourished. Kishan Reddy clarified that while Telangana began with a surplus budget, it is now burdened with a debt of Rs 10 lakh crore, attributing this to the TRS and Congress regimes. He criticised both parties for corruption, highlighting them as family-run entities that deceive the public. He stated that the BJP is the alternative to rebuild the state and that the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will foster development with ethics and honesty.

YSRCP to take out statewide protests under ‘vennupotu dinam'

Visakhapatnam: YSRCP MLC Botcha Satyanarayana accused the TDP-led coalition government of failing to meet its promises made and resorting to a 'drama' to mask its failures over the past year. Terming the recently-concluded 'Mahanadu' as nothing but a farce at a media conference held in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, he said that the TDP organised it with an aim to deceive the people of Andhra Pradesh. 'Clearly, the Mahanadu was an attempt to cover up TDP's incompetence as it resorted to personal attacks,' the MLC asserted, demanding the ruling party to clarify what benefits the people of Andhra Pradesh derived through the event. To expose the lapses of the government, the MLC announced, the YSRCP is set to take out statewide protests from June 4 under the banner of 'vennupotu dinam' (betrayal day) across all the constituencies. As part of it, the YSRCP will mobilise people, hold rallies, submit memoranda toofficials concerned to expose the betrayal tactics of the coalition government and demand accountability. Addressing the mediapersons, the YSRCP MLC blamed the coalition government for mishandling the education sector, particularly the evaluation of the Class X answer sheets. 'The government has turned the evaluation process into a mockery. It's shocking to note the discrepancies where students who initially scored 20 marks were awarded 90 marks upon re-evaluation. Have we ever witnessed such a massive difference in the correction of answer scripts?' he wondered. Over 16,000 students sought re-verification, and the majority of them expressed concern over gross errors in evaluation. There is no action taken against those responsible, the MLC lamented, criticising the evaluation process which was carried out in a hurry. Further, the YSRCP leader accused the TDP of using Mahanadu as a platform for self-glorification rather than highlighting a roadmap for implementation of schemes. 'The TDP failed to enforce several schemes as assured. People deserve to know the timelines and they are not interested in listening to 'glorified' scripts,' Satyanarayana criticised. The MLC was accompanied by YSRCP district president KK Raju, party leader MolliApparao.
