YSRCP to take out statewide protests under ‘vennupotu dinam'
Visakhapatnam: YSRCP MLC Botcha Satyanarayana accused the TDP-led coalition government of failing to meet its promises made and resorting to a 'drama' to mask its failures over the past year.
Terming the recently-concluded 'Mahanadu' as nothing but a farce at a media conference held in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, he said that the TDP organised it with an aim to deceive the people of Andhra Pradesh. 'Clearly, the Mahanadu was an attempt to cover up TDP's incompetence as it resorted to personal attacks,' the MLC asserted, demanding the ruling party to clarify what benefits the people of Andhra Pradesh derived through the event.
To expose the lapses of the government, the MLC announced, the YSRCP is set to take out statewide protests from June 4 under the banner of 'vennupotu dinam' (betrayal day) across all the constituencies. As part of it, the YSRCP will mobilise people, hold rallies, submit memoranda toofficials concerned to expose the betrayal tactics of the coalition government and demand accountability.
Addressing the mediapersons, the YSRCP MLC blamed the coalition government for mishandling the education sector, particularly the evaluation of the Class X answer sheets. 'The government has turned the evaluation process into a mockery. It's shocking to note the discrepancies where students who initially scored 20 marks were awarded 90 marks upon re-evaluation. Have we ever witnessed such a massive difference in the correction of answer scripts?' he wondered.
Over 16,000 students sought re-verification, and the majority of them expressed concern over gross errors in evaluation. There is no action taken against those responsible, the MLC lamented, criticising the evaluation process which was carried out in a hurry.
Further, the YSRCP leader accused the TDP of using Mahanadu as a platform for self-glorification rather than highlighting a roadmap for implementation of schemes. 'The TDP failed to enforce several schemes as assured. People deserve to know the timelines and they are not interested in listening to 'glorified' scripts,' Satyanarayana criticised. The MLC was accompanied by YSRCP district president KK Raju, party leader MolliApparao.

His death shocked Jordan, which was participating in the US-led coalition's strikes against IS positions in Syria. Bringing the case to trial was the result of extensive cooperation with officials in Belgium, France and the United States, prosecutor Olin said last week. The case was proof that "justice always catches up" with those responsible, he told reporters. The pilot's execution was filmed and a 22-minute video accompanied by a specially-composed religious chant was published. In the video, the victim is seen walking past several masked IS fighters, including Krayem, according to prosecutors. The pilot is then locked in a cage that is set on fire, leading to his death. Prosecutors have been unable to determine the exact date of the murder but the investigation has identified the location where it took place. - Eyebrow scar - It was thanks to a scar on the suspect's eyebrow, visible in the video and spotted by Belgian police, that Krayem was identified and the investigation was opened, said another prosecutor on the case, Reena Devgun. Other evidence includes conversations on social media, including one where Krayem asks a person if he has seen a new video "where a man gets fried", according to the investigation, a copy of which has been viewed by AFP. "I'm in the video," Krayem said, pointing out the moment when the camera zooms in on his face. The other person replies: "Hahaha, yes, I saw the eyebrow." The defendant's lawyer, Petra Eklund, told AFP her client admitted to being present at the scene but disputed the prosecution's version. "He denies the acts for which he is prosecuted," she said. "He acknowledges having been present at that place during the event but claims not to have acted in the manner described by the prosecutors in the account of the facts," she added. Krayem, who is from Malmo in southern Sweden, joined the IS group in Syria in 2014 before returning to Europe in September 2015. He was arrested in Belgium in April 2016. In June 2022, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison in France for helping plan the November 2015 Paris attacks in which 130 people were killed. The following year, he was given a life sentence in Belgium for participating in the March 2016 bombings at Brussels' main airport and on the metro system, which killed 32 people. Krayem has been temporarily handed over to Sweden to participate in the Stockholm trial, which is scheduled to last until June 26. He is expected to be sent back to France to continue serving his sentence there at the end of the Swedish trial.

India calls for WTO action on non-tariff barriers, ensuring strong dispute resolution mechanism

I have not heard of any cases resolved through MPIA," he MPIA is being pushed by certain members. It is an alternative mechanism to resolve WTO disputes that are appealed by a country in the absence of a functional WTO Appellate the WTO is facing an existential crisis, he said that one should not jump to the conclusion that an existential crisis has been created."Challenges will come and situations will arise, we have to address such challenges, face these situations and within the ambit of the WTO framework," he said, adding "the WTO now is about 30 years old, what we need to do is work with an open mind and unlock possibilities".

Why A Mega Dalit Outreach Is Part Of BJP's Plan For Poll-Bound Bihar From June 20
Last Updated: Caste arithmetic and an unfavourable result in the elections last year have prompted the party to take steps to win the poll battle The BJP has decided to go all out to woo Dalits of poll-bound Bihar, even before seat-sharing talks have begun among the NDA constituents for the upcoming election. Starting June 20, the party will target the Ravidas community by organising the Sant Shiromani Ravidas Sammelan-cum-honour ceremony in Bihar. Sant Ravidas, a 15th-century Bhakti saint, is a significant figure in the Dalit community and is widely recognised as a Dalit icon. Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commemorated Ravidas' 647th birth anniversary in his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi. Now, with Bihar election around the corner, BJP has decided to hold such conclaves in different districts and created a schedule for that. News18 has learnt that BJP has fixed conclave dates for Begusarai on June 20, Samastipur on June 22, Madhubani on June 25, Bagaha and Bhagalpur on June 29, Saharsa on June 30, Muzaffarpur and Siwan on July 6, Darbhanga on July 7, Gaya on July 13, Banka on July 16, Arwal on July 18, Khagaria and Sitamarhi on July 20 and Gopalganj on July 31, which will be the season finale. There will also be a special conclave through which Dalit outreach efforts will be made in Bihar's capital Patna though the date for it is not yet finalised. The party wants the Patna conclave to be a show-stopper with big names in attendance, and hence, the date will depend on their availability, say BJP sources. But why the focus on Dalits? Sources in the know suggest there are two reasons behind it. One is pure caste arithmetic. Though the Ravidas community constitutes just 5 per cent of Bihar's voters, if the total Dalit pie in Bihar is taken into consideration, the number jumps to 19 per cent. While BJP is confident about upper castes and OBC support of a few, JDU too brings OBC strengths. Even NDA's smaller allies like Rashtriya Lok Morcha leader Upendra Kushwaha can influence OBC votes. Only former Bihar CM Jitin Ram Majhi's Hindustan Awam Morcha-Secular(HAM-S) and LJP (RV) Chirag Paswan have limited sway over those known as the backwards. The second reason stems from an unfavourable experience in last year's Lok Sabha election when the BJP-led NDA lost nine Lok Sabha seats in Bihar. In 2019 Lok Sabha polls, NDA won 39 seats while in 2024, it managed to win 30. In neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, the situation was even more grim. The BJP-led NDA lost a whopping 28 seats. Later, BJP went on record to accept that Congress managed to twist BJP's '400 paar' campaign slogan as fear mongering among Dalit voters, suggesting their reservation rights are on the line. This worked against the BJP in the two Hindi heartland states. Since June 4 last year, when the results were declared, BJP has taken corrective measures to win the narrative war. However, the party feels that with no big alliance partner that has a solid grip among the Dalit community, the outreach is the best way forward. Sources in the BJP say the plan to carpet-bomb the Ravidas Sammelans was conceived in mid-May when Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Bihar Police stopped him on his way to Ambedkar hostel in Darbhanga, adding that 'they could not stop me because your power (minority community) is watching over me". Back then, Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal had hit out at Gandhi, saying: 'He should use his mind. If he had to use a government building or hostel, he should have sent an official itinerary. He is the Leader of Opposition and a state president of a party has to teach this?" However, it is learnt that this visit may have worked as a catalyst for the state BJP to pre-emptively launch a mega Dalit outreach, having learnt its lessons last year.
