Cape Breton Regional Municipality asks residents to conserve water
The Cape Breton Regional Municipality is asking residents and businesses to conserve water amid ongoing hot, dry weather. The voluntary water conservation advisory includes suggestions such as: taking shorter showers only running dishwashers and washing machines when they're fully loaded avoiding watering lawns and washing vehicles not leaving taps running 'The areas with water will need to support the areas without,' the municipality said in a news release. 'Ensuring the water supplies locally to support fire response is critical. The municipality is at a high fire risk.' The municipality says local fire services will no longer fill swimming pools, nor will they fill wells. Anyone can report a dry well by calling 311 or going to Halifax is also under a voluntary water conservation advisory while some Nova Scotia municipalities have imposed water conservation orders.
