Vijayawada: In a special drive against two-wheeler thefts, Guntur police recovered 34 stolen motorcycles worth Rs 25 lakh and arrested nine accused, including two minors. The thefts occurred across various police station limits in the district.
According to SP Sateesh Kumar, the drive was launched following a spate of complaints filed by vehicle owners across different police station jurisdictions, particularly in areas such as Patabhipuram, Old Guntur, Nagarampalem, and Tadikonda. These areas reported a surge in two-wheeler thefts over the past few months. Based on complaints and available CCTV footage, as well as technical inputs and information on habitual offenders, the police detained several suspects and carried out intensive interrogations.
This led to the identification of the accused and the recovery of the stolen vehicles.
The recovered vehicles were traced and seized by police teams from East, West, Nallapadu, Tadikonda subdivisions, and the Crime Division. The arrested accused are identified as Akkisetti Akash (19), Uppu Rakesh (19), Madugula Ravi Teja (22), Shaik Asheeru (28), Kona Venkata Gopi (27), Tokala Rajesh (19), Boyapati Jayasai (21), and two minors.

In addition to the accused, police identified individuals who purchased stolen two-wheelers: Mopidevi Revanth (20), Vishumolakala Koteshwar Rao, Manikanth, Seelam Yesu, Shaik Hussain, Kolla Yesubabu (26), Kottamassu Sai (35), and a minor boy.
SP said the accused developed habits of substance abuse and targeted vehicles parked outside homes, marketplaces, hospitals, and religious places. Once stolen, these vehicles were used to roam freely and were occasionally employed to commit other petty crimes.
SP emphasised that negligence by vehicle owners—especially parking in open areas without security measures—made the thefts easier for the offenders.
In light of this, SP urged citizens to take precautions, including installing CCTV cameras, avoiding open-area parking, and using additional security features such as handle locks, wheel locks, and GPS tracking systems for their vehicles.

A partnership that turned sour, a revenge plot: Inside robbery at ex-NSG commandant's Delhi home

Days after a retired NSG commandant was robbed at gunpoint at his home in Chawri Bazaar, police said four people, including a jewellery businessman, were arrested in the case. According to police, the businessman, Mohammad Kaif, was allegedly miffed after the 86-year-old victim, Bhim Sen — now a diamond and gems artisan — ended their business partnership. The other accused were identified as Aloknath Mishra, 35; Sohail Malik, 23; and Waseem, 48; police said. The incident took place on July 19 when Sen was at his house — which also doubles up as his office — along with his son Sandeep, daughter-in-law Neelam, and grandson. 'A man knocked on the door and called out the name of a family member. As soon as the door was opened, three masked assailants, armed with weapons, forced their way inside,' a police officer had said earlier. When the grandson resisted, one of the masked men took out a gun and tied his hands before taping his mouth, the officer had said. The intruders then looted jewellery and precious stones worth Rs 50 lakh, while also taking $3,550. They locked the family in the kitchen before fleeing. DCP (North) Raja Banthia said, 'Through sustained surveillance and intelligence analysis, it was established that three individuals were involved in the crime. These individuals were observed regrouping near Chawri Bazar Metro Station — two approached through nearby bylanes, while the third arrived in a TSR (three-wheeled scooter rickshaw) after deboarding a Metro train at Rajiv Chowk. Metro data later confirmed that this person had boarded the train from Noida City Centre.' A team led by Sub-Inspector Prashant found the TSR driver. 'The driver confirmed that he had picked up the individual from Connaught Place. The team found that the accused took another train back to Noida City Centre Metro station. He got off and drove away on a scooter,' the DCP said. The scooter was registered in the name of a junior engineer with the New Delhi Municipal Council, who lives in Noida. The engineer told the police that her scooter was being used by her driver, Aloknath Mishra. A trap was laid, and Mishra was arrested on Tuesday. 'Mishra admitted that the robbery had been orchestrated by Kaif as an act of revenge. Kaif hired Mishra, Sohail, and Waseem to execute the plan. Kaif was then arrested from his residence near Jama Masjid and Sohail was arrested from Mustafabad. They admitted that the proceeds of the robbery were with Waseem,' DCP Banthia said. Investigation showed that Waseem fled to Moradabad after the robbery and then went to Sambhal. He then booked a hotel in Roorkee, where he stayed for five days. 'Waseem kept his phone switched off most of the time, switching it on only for a few minutes daily — and always from a location away from his actual place of stay to mislead police. He hid the robbed jewels in Roorkee and was last tracked to Mussoorie,' Banthia said. A trap was laid at Library Chowk in Mussoorie, and the accused was arrested on July 27. Police have recovered the majority of the robbed amount. A police officer said Kaif started doing business with Sen in 2023, and has known him for 20 years. 'Kaif felt that Sen was visiting foreign countries and taking over his clients for his own business. This caused a monetary dispute between the two and led to a fallout,' the officer said.

Families of migrant workers torn between hope, despair

1 2 Malda: In some homes, there's despair. In others, relief. A sense of dread hangs over families in Malda whose relatives have gone to work in other states. Jiyem Sk has been waiting for his son Amir to return from Bangladesh for a week. A migrant worker himself, Jiyem was in Bihar when he learned that his son had been hauled up and sent to Bangladesh on suspicion that he was an illegal immigrant. Amir had gone to Rajasthan to work at a construction site in April. Local cops detained him. And even though he had his Aadhaar with him and his family in Malda sent more documents, the local police refused to believe Amir was a citizen. He was first taken to a police station. Then to jail. On July 22, a video surfaced in which Amir revealed that he was in Bangladesh's Ghumra. When the video reached his family, they approached local authorities in Bengal seeking help for his safe return. On Saturday, the Kaliachak BDO and police, along with other officials, visited Jiyem's house at Jalalpur and assured him they would make all possible efforts to ensure Amir's return. Sources at Ghumra claimed he was taken to the local police station from his shelter. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Even Beautiful Women Have Their 'Oops' Moments Read More Undo "Everyone has promised me help, but I can't rest until I speak to my son," Jiyem told TOI.
