Sources speculated that Jimmy Kimmel — who is on vacation from taping episodes of ABC's 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' — would be among Colbert's famous friends to appear.
Kimmel lashed out at CBS, after learning of the cancellation Thursday, writing on Instagram: 'Love you, Stephen. F*** you and all your Sheldons, CBS.'

John Oliver, host of HBO's 'Last Week Tonight,' also spoke out against CBS' decision to can Colbert.
'Late-night shows mean a lot to me, not just because I work in them, because even growing up in England, I would watch (David) Letterman's show, which of course was Stephen's show, and think about what a glamorous world that was,' Oliver told the Associated Press on Sunday.
'So it's very, very, very sad news. I look forward to seeing what [Colbert is] gonna do next because that man will not stop.'

Seth Meyers, host of NBC's 'Late Nigh with Seth Meyers,' took to Instagram, writing: 'For as great a comedian and host (as) he is, @stephenathome is an even better person. I'm going to miss having him on TV every night but I'm excited he can no longer use the excuse that he's 'too busy to hang out' with me.'
Reps for Fallon, Kimmel, Oliver and Meyers did not respond to requests for comment.
Reps for CBS and Colbert did not comment.
4 CBS said that the cancellation of Colbert's show was purely financial.

Colbert, 61, got the ax three days after he took a shot at his bosses at the Tiffany Network over its $16 million settlement with Donald Trump over a controversial '60 Minutes' interview with Kamala Harris.
The settlement comes as the network's parent Paramount negotiates with the Trump administration regulatory approval for its $8 billion sale to independent studio Skydance.
4 The Post reported that 'The Late Show' clocked a staggering $40 million annual loss, and according to Puck, it had a budget of more than $100 million a season.

The Post previously reported that the show clocked a staggering $40 million annual loss and Puck News reported that the show had a budget of more that a whopping $100 million a season.
'The show started to slide two years ago,' said a source with knowledge, adding that viewership declines and dips in advertising have impacted all three late-night shows.
Colbert's show is set to end in May 2026.

Natasha Richardson would 'swoon with love' over Liam Neeson: co-star

Elaine Hendrix is remembering her 'The Parent Trap' co-star Natasha Richardson with double the love. A member of the Redgrave acting family and known for her Tony Award-winning portrayal of Sally Bowles in the 1998 Broadway revival of 'Cabaret,' Richardson was 'theater, Hollywood [and] acting royalty,' Hendrix explained. But on set, Hendrix, 54, recalled that the 'Maid in Manhattan' actress was 'warm and sweet.' Advertisement 7 During her interview with The Post, Hendrix recalled that Richardson was 'warm and sweet.' The New York Post 'It's no wonder she was cast as Elizabeth,' Hendrix said. 'I mean, really smart move, Nancy [Meyers] and Charles [Shyer].' Meyers wrote and directed the remake of the 1961 original, while Shyer served as co-writer and producer on the film. Before her death, Richardson had been married to fellow actor Liam Neeson since 1994. The couple were together for 15 years and shared two sons, Micheál, 30, and Daniel, 28. Neeson, 73, is now reportedly dating his 'The Naked Gun' co-star Pamela Anderson. 7 Richardson and Neeson were married for 15 years before her death. Anytime someone mentioned her family, Hendrix said, 'she would swoon with love. They were madly in love, and she was crazy about her kids.' That kind of devotion to her family, Hendrix explained, made Richardson's death 'all the more tragic' — and her performance in 'The Parent Trap' all the more meaningful. 'I'm so glad that her being was captured in this movie,' she said. 'It's such a fitting memory of her, such a fitting tribute to her.' Five years after her death, Neeson recalled visiting his wife in the hospital during a 2014 interview with Anderson Cooper on '60 Minutes.' It's — I don't know if you can hear me, but that's — this is what's gone down.' Richardson was later flown to Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, where she ultimately passed away. Neeson was suddenly a single father to their two young children, who were just 13 and 12 when they lost their mother. At the time, the 'Taken' star told People in 2024 that his primary focus was 'making sure they were okay.' Liam Neeson On His Sex Scenes With Pamela Anderson In The Naked Gun

Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson may be looking loved-up on the red carpet today, but their chemistry goes right back to the set of their new movie, The Naked Gun. The film is a reboot of the beloved 1980s and 1990s crime comedies, and Liam is starring as Detective Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Leslie Nielsen's character in the originals. Pamela, on the other hand, plays a woman named Beth Davenport, with whom Frank becomes involved. The Naked Gun already being hailed as 'the funniest movie of the year' ahead of its release on Aug. 1. And if it wasn't already obvious, it sounds like Liam and Pamela had a whole lot of fun making the movie — so much so, in fact, it may have even led to an offscreen romance, but more on that later. Appearing on The Late Show on Wednesday, Liam was asked by host Stephen Colbert about some of the movie's more intimate moments, including a scene where we see his bare ass — or what we're supposed to believe is his bare ass. 'I wish I could say it was mine. It's not. It's in the contract,' the 73-year-old joked, clarifying that a 'stunt' butt was used. For context, The Naked Gun was Liam and Pamela's first time working together. And it also happened to be Liam's first time using an intimacy coordinator to oversee his and Pam's spicy sex scene: an 'unexpected' threesome. '[It was] a little bit strange,' Liam said, describing his first ever experience with an intimacy coordinator. 'You know? Pamela and I knew [what to do].' Hilariously, Stephen asked if Liam was as familiar with inviting a third into the bedroom, to which he responded: 'That was a first. That had to be specifically choreographed.' If one thing's for sure, Pamela and Liam have serious chemistry, which has only fueled interest in reports that the co-stars are enjoying a 'budding romance in the early stages.' 'It's sincere, and it's clear they're smitten with each other,' an insider told People this week, adding that they're loving each other's company. And, you know what, we're loving it, too. You can watch Liam's Late Show interview here, and you can watch The Naked Gun in theaters from Aug. 1.
