BJP Minority Morcha to hold yoga camps in UP madrasas
Lucknow: The BJP Minority Morcha is set to conduct yoga camps in selected madrasas across all 403 Assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh on June 21 -- International Yoga Day.
The initiative is part of a wider campaign commemorating 11 years of governance under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to Uttar Pradesh BJP Minority Morcha president Basit Ali, the party's outreach will specifically target maulanas and madrasa students, encouraging them to participate in the yoga sessions. These camps aim to create engagement and promote wellness while simultaneously highlighting the Modi government's policies within the minority community.
As part of the broader effort, the Morcha is also launching a campaign titled 'Alpsankhyako ka ye paigaam: Modi ke saath Musalman (Minorities' Message: Muslims are with Modi)'. This drive, focused on building a better understanding and support among Muslims, will roll out across major cities in Uttar Pradesh.
The main event is scheduled to take place in Lucknow on June 12 and will include participation from members of the intellectual community, including doctors, teachers, engineers, and lawyers.
'To mark the 11 years of Prime Minister Modi's governance, the party will organise programmes in all 403 Assembly constituencies, specifically targeting 403 madrasas across Uttar Pradesh. These events will involve maulanas, madrasa students, and local community members, beginning with yoga sessions followed by district-level programs,' Basit Ali told IANS.
One of the standout components of this campaign will be the initiative 'Desh Ka Paigham, Pratibha Ko Samman', which will honour high-achieving individuals from the minority community. This includes meritorious students and those who have become IAS or IPS officers or contributed meaningfully to the country's development.

Days after communal tensions, 38 arrested in overnight crackdown across Assam's Dhubri
Thirty-eight people were arrested in an overnight crackdown in Western Assam's Dhubri town after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's visit there on Friday, days after communal tensions gripped the town in the days following Eid-al Adha. After communal tensions had gripped the town on June 8 and 9 following the discovery of suspected cattle remains from a temple in the town, a total of 22 people had been arrested. According to district police, a total of five FIRs had been registered in connection with three different matters related to the developments in the town — the alleged slaughter of a cow and leaving the remains in the temple, rioting in the town, and the spread of misinformation and rumours. The charges in these FIRs include sections of the Assam Cattle Preservation Act and provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to defiling a place of worship, acts intended to outrage religious feelings, criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt and promoting enmity between different groups. However, following the Chief Minister's visit, 38 more people were arrested by the district police, this time from various locations across the district. 'We are still investigating and making arrests in connection with the incidents that took place earlier, but there is also a crackdown on criminal elements across the districts, which is an ongoing operation,' said Additional SP Dhubri Dipjyoti Talukdar. During his visit to Dhubri Friday, Sarma had said that police have been ordered to arrest 'all criminals in Dhubri' including people with non-bailable warrants against them and a criminal history. He had also stated that he would issue night-time 'shoot at sight orders' against law-and-order disruptors in the town. However, the Additional SP Saturday declined to comment on whether formal orders to that effect have been received by the district police. Another major move the state government made after his visit was a shuffle in police officials by bringing in APS officer Leena Doley – who had been posted in Hailakandi – as SSP Dhubri. While Dhubri is a Muslim-majority district located along the state's border with Bangladesh, the town itself has a mixed population. Dhubri Municipal Board Chairman and BJP leader Debamoy Sanyal said that matters in the town had been calming down after the flare-up Sunday and Monday. 'Everything started when a cow head was found in the Hanuman mandir in ward 3 of the town Sunday. That day, we went there, and so the police, district administration, and local Muslims and leaders as well, and we all had discussions till late in the evening and calmed down sentiments. But the next day, again some remains were found in the same campus despite police presence and that really instigated people,' he said. The town had witnessed clashes, including stone pelting, and the district administration had Monday imposed prohibitory orders ordering the closure of shops and markets, and prohibiting the assembly of more than five people and assemblies and rallies. However, these orders were withdrawn Tuesday afternoon, with DC Dibakar Nath saying that the situation had come back under control. However, there were still some reports of groups pelting stones at each other at night the next night. 'The people have been cooperative and peace committees have been having discussions. Everything is okay, except some instances of stone pelting at night. Despite its mixed population and instances of communal tensions in the past, these have never carried on for more than one or two days. This time it escalated, and the effect of developments in Bangladesh cannot be ruled out. Now there are lots of police forces and it will take some time for everything to get settled,' he said. During his visit, Sarma had connected the tensions in the town to 'external forces' and a communal group working to cause unrest in the town. The local MLA, Nazrul Hoque, from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) alleged that the chief minister's stern directives were disproportionate to the situation on the ground. 'I have condemned the CM saying that shoot-at-sight orders will be issued in the town because things have not come to that. Things in the town are peaceful now. What is required is a proper investigation into what exactly happened and identifying the exact culprits who have been creating unrest in the town. So far all the people arrested have been Muslims, even though stone pelting has happened from both sides,' he said. In the meantime, Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi said that the Congress supports stern measures, including shoot-at-sight orders to deal with communal forces. However, he pointed towards alleged 'agent provocateurs' within the BJP, accusing CM Sarma of 'circulating a two-religion theory' in Assam. 'In Assam, after Himanta Biswa Sarma joined the BJP, he has been spreading communal statements and actions and has been doing politics to divide the state… So now these incidents happen, during Durga Puja, during Eid, somewhere or the other, there will be some incident with cow meat or something else to keep the communal pot boiling,' he said in a press conference on Saturday. He further said: 'There have also been instances in states with BJP governments that when people have been caught in connection with such cases, they have been found to be connected to some organisation or branch connected with the BJP. Because of these things, we can't help but have doubts. That's why we appeal that since they have the police and all the central government's intelligence agencies, they should identify these communal forces and punish them accordingly'.

Congress has become 'fake news factory', alleges BJP
Hitting back at the Congress, the BJP on Saturday (June 14, 2025) said the opposition party has become a "fake news factory" after it attacked the Modi government for India abstaining from voting on the UN General Assembly resolution for a ceasefire in Gaza. BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari accused the Congress of spreading "half-truths" on the issue, saying India's abstention was not a deviation but a continuation of "past votes", based on "unwavering belief" in dialogue and diplomacy as the only sustainable path forward. "Congress, before unleashing theatrical outrage, should take a moment to read India's official Explanation of Vote at the UN on June 12," he wrote on X, posting a screenshot of the purported document. "The Congress and its intellectually dishonest ecosystem has become nothing but a fake news factory," he charged. The 193-member UN General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to adopt the resolution introduced by Spain that demanded an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire. India was among the 19 nations that abstained, while 12 countries voted against the resolution, which got 149 votes in favour. Reacting to the development, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said in a post on X, "It is now increasingly evident that our Foreign Policy is in shambles. Perhaps, PM Modi must now take a call on his EAM's repeated blunders and set some accountability." "Have we abandoned India's consistent stand advocating for a ceasefire, peace, and dialogue in the Middle East and West Asia?" he asked. Echoing similar sentiments, AICC general secretary, organisation K.C. Venugopal said India always stood for peace, justice, and human dignity and called on the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to explain what had changed in the last six months that led India from supporting a ceasefire to abstaining from the vote. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed her disappointment at India's stance at the UN, calling it a "tragic reversal" of the country's anti-colonial legacy. Mr. Bhandari accused the Congress of spreading "half-truths" and wrote on X, "Our abstention is not a deviation, but a continuation of past votes (A/RES/77/247 & A/RES/79/232), based on our unwavering belief in dialogue and diplomacy as the only sustainable path forward." India unequivocally condemned the loss of civilian lives and the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and called for the protection of civilians, humanitarian access and the release of remaining hostages, he said. Mr. Bhandari said India also reaffirmed support for a negotiated "Two-State Solution'", with Palestine and Israel coexisting peacefully within secure, recognised borders". "India has consistently provided humanitarian assistance to Gaza, both bilaterally and via the UN," he added.

Assam CM orders ‘shoot-at-sight' after beef incident sparks communal tension in Dhubri
Guwahati: Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that 38 people have been arrested in connection with a beef incident in Dhubri. The chief minister visited Dhubri on Friday and reviewed the law-and-order situation of the district. The government has brought Senior Superintendent of Police, Hailakandi Leena Doley as the Senior Superintendent of Police Dhubri. The Dhubri town in Assam witnessed tension since last one week after a prohibited meat and a severed cow head was recovered from a Hanuman temple in the town. The Chief Minister visited the town and assessed the on-the ground situation holding a high-level meeting in Dhubri with DGP Harmeet Singh, Additional Chief Secretary Ajay Tiwari, and other senior officials of the state administration. Sarma also visited the temple site and interacted with members of the temple committee and local residents. He also inspected the temple and its surrounding areas and took stock of the deployment of security personnel. He also assured government assistance for the development of the temple. He also emphasized the need to identify those responsible for orchestrating the unrest. The Chief Minister firmly stated that no individual or group would be allowed to weaponize the incident involving the prohibited meat to create social discord. Following the outcome of the meeting, the Chief Minister ordered the deployment of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) along with additional security forces in Dhubri to help normalize the situation. Dhubri district in Assam witnessing law and order issue post Bakrid celebration, Sarma said he has asked the police to shoot at sight the criminal elements. The town has repeatedly witnessed recovery of beef near a temple. He said that the government has issued shoot at sight orders in Dhubri. "The law-and-order situation was a little challenging here for the last one week. After the Eid ul Zuha, somebody kept a severed head of a cow in Hanuman temple. Peace committees are formed involving Hindus and Muslims. However, it was repeated the next day again," he said while adding that there were also cases of stone pelting at night, he said. Sarma had said, 'From next time onwards I will come to Dhubri before Eid and camp for at least 10 days. Police will shoot at the sight of criminal elements." The chief minister further added that a Bangladesh backed organization Nobin Bangla has also done postering in Dhubri demanding inclusion of Dhubri district in Bangladesh. He said that these postering indicates that a communal force backed by Bangladesh is active in Dhubri and they are working to destabilize Dhubri. On June 9, the Dhubri district administration-imposed prohibition under BNSS 2023 in Dhubri town following the likelihood of breach of peace and public tranquillity in areas falling under Dhubri police station due to communal tension. The area witnessed tension following recovery of banned meat including a severed cow head from the premises of a Hanuman temple in the town's Ward no 3.
