Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. involved in scuffle vs. Titans
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. found himself in the middle of a skirmish during a joint practice with the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday in Flowery Branch, Ga.
Penix and several Titans defenders exchanged words after the former completed a long pass to wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud. Tensions escalated to the point that Penix was knocked to the ground, prompting players from both teams to come off the sideline.
"I gave them my words, and probably went a little too far," said Penix, 25, who was not injured in the scrum. "I was somebody else. I don't even remember."
Falcons quarterbacks coach DJ Williams was pleased that Penix's teammates had his back.
"Obviously, you don't want that, but I take some positive out of it," Williams said. "Like you saw the guys take up for him and I think that speaks to his leadership and who he is in that locker room. Obviously as coaches we're upstairs, they're downstairs. We don't really see a lot, but obviously he has a relationship and the trust of the guys because everybody ran to his defense. So, I think that's a good thing for the Falcons."
Penix, the eighth overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, played in five games in his rookie season. He completed 61 of 105 passes (58.1 percent) for 775 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.

The kind of things that have been engaged in in an effort to hurt me, along with contemporaries and others.' Smith insisted there is 'a lot of s***' he doesn't say and that 'there's a reason that I feel the way that I do.' 'And the last straw was him approaching me and turning the Bronny thing into something about me attacking somebody's family, when it was him I was talking about. Not Bronny,' the ESPN star continued. The analyst has always maintained that the four-time NBA champion misconstrued his comments about his son. 'And then to go on The Pat McAfee Show, which comes directly on after my show, on the channel that I work on. To insult me. Now, people can get into all kind of components that go into it and all that other stuff. I have nothing to say,' continued Smith, who suggested he would now only discuss James when he has to. 'I'm never going to denigrate any employer, any partner, or myself by getting into anything excessively, unnecessarily, when it comes to him or anybody else,' the ESPN star explained. August 16 - Dominic Canzone delivered the tie-breaking RBI single during a five-run seventh inning Friday night for the visiting Seattle Mariners, who overcame a pair of deficits to defeat the reeling New York Mets 11-9 in the opener of a three-game interleague series. The Mariners laced a team-record nine doubles and finished with 16 hits overall as they improved to 10-3 this month. Cal Raleigh hit his major league-leading 46th homer in the third, a two-run shot that made him the first player this season to reach 100 RBIs. He added two doubles later in the game. Caleb Ferguson (3-2), the third of seven Mariners pitchers, earned the win with a perfect sixth. Francisco Lindor was 3-for-4 with two homers -- including a leadoff shot -- and four RBIs for the Mets, who have lost 14 of their last 16. Francisco Alvarez was 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs while Juan Soto homered in the fourth. Each team blew two leads in the first six innings before the Mariners went ahead for good against Ryan Helsley (3-4) and Brooks Raley in the seventh. Salvador Perez shines as Royals continue home dominance of White Sox
August 16 - Salvador Perez hit a tie-breaking home run in the fourth inning, and talented rookie Noah Cameron yielded one run while pitching into the sixth, as the Kansas City Royals extended their home winning streak over the Chicago White Sox to 12 games with a 3-1 victory on Friday night. Perez broke a 1-1 tie with his solo shot off Aaron Civale (3-8), then scored an insurance run via Adam Frazier's double in the sixth for the Royals, who have outscored the White Sox 59-13 during the club's longest home winning streak against any opponent. Maikel Garcia also had a run-scoring single for Kansas City, which has won five of six at home. Cameron (7-5), meanwhile, had his home scoreless innings streak end at 19 1/3 innings when he allowed Lenyn Sosa's two-out homer in the fourth. The left-hander gave up five other hits over 5 1/3 innings. Carlos Estevez struck out the side in the ninth for his 31st save. Civale allowed three runs and eight hits over six innings for Chicago, which has lost nine of 11. The White Sox last win at Kansas City came on Sept. 6, 2023. The Royals wasted no time getting to Civale.
