Nintendo Switch 2 Review: Bigger and Mostly Better
By
Nintendo Co. didn't take any wild swings with the new Switch 2. The gaming console offers faster performance, improved graphics and a larger display, but considering the original came out in 2017, this isn't a major departure from the previous model that some may have hoped for.
Not that the core premise needed much changing. Like the original, the Switch 2 is a hybrid console that can be taken on the go and used in handheld mode, making it a godsend to commuters and frequent fliers. Or you can drop it into the included dock and lose track of time playing Cyberpunk 2077 on your TV at home.

‘Fortnite' Is Getting A New, Fast-Paced Battle Royale Mode This Week
A new Battle Royale mode is dropping into Fortnite very soon. Every six months or so, I get sucked back into Fortnite for a while. Usually, it's a cool new mechanic or cosmetic that ropes me back in. This time around, it was the big Death Star event that ended the last season. Anyway, I can see myself hanging around a bit longer than usual this time to check out a brand-new Battle Royale mode that's coming to Fortnite very soon. It's called Fortnite Blitz Royale. We don't know too many details about it yet other than what Epic Games has shared in a couple of tweets. It's said to be a faster-paced version of Battle Royale that's available on all platforms with support for cross-play. However, it has a "a rogue-like design specifically crafted for mobile play," according to Epic. That's pretty interesting, even though Fortnite's Battle Royale variants are already effectively roguelike modes. Other than your cosmetics, you start each game afresh and have to loot weapons and items. I'm curious whether there'll be ongoing gameplay progression in this mode (which would make it more of a roguelite, to be more precise). One other intriguing thing here is that Epic suggests that it will only take five minutes to play a game of Fortnite Blitz Royale, rather than the 20-25 minutes for a regular BR match. According to Fortnite leaker iFireMonkey, Blitz Royale matches will have 32 players instead of up to 100. It's likely that matches will take place in a smaller area too. We won't have to wait long to find out exactly what Fortnite Blitz Royale is all about. It's set to go live on June 18, as part of an update that will include a bunch of new features for Fortnite Ballistic, a fresh game mode for Lego Fortnite and the latest Fornite Festival season. I'm definitely curious to play Fortnite Blitz Royale. I've also been meaning to play some Fortnite with mouse controls on my Switch 2, so I'll try that soon and report back. 🫡 Follow my blog for coverage of video games (such as Fortnite) and word games. With AI Siri Delayed, Apple's AirPods Pro 3 May Be Next
If you were itching for a new pair of AirPods Pro, you may want to clip those fingernails because that itch could persist for another year. According to yet another Apple analyst, the AirPods Pro 3 might be delayed until 2026, extending the previous rumored timeline that projected a release this year. The rumored delay comes courtesy of Apple analyst Jeff Pu, who corroborates previous intel from fellow analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. If Pu and Kuo's info are correct, it would make the AirPods Pro 2 three years old before the release of the next generation. Apple Product Timeline by Jeff Pu, GF Securities Hong Kong — Jukan Choi (@Jukanlosreve) June 15, 2025 In modern Apple time, three years is basically a century. In iPad years, it's even longer—those guys can't go 14 minutes without releasing another iteration. And as for regular, non-Apple, human years, I think it still seems like a long time to wait for another iteration of AirPods, though if the rumors are to be believed, the update could be worth the wait. Apple is reportedly considering some major upgrades that include the addition of a health sensor and potentially—and this is a weird one—cameras. According to a previous report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, infrared cameras might be coming for your next pair of AirPods Pro, which sounds strange on the surface but makes a lot of sense once you start to unpack some potential use cases. For one, infrared cameras could enable new hand gestures, making them part earbuds and part wearable—a move that Apple is clearly interested in based on rumors of a health sensor. What's even more interesting, however, are the cameras' implications for AI. According to Gurman's report, the cameras will 'feed data to AI,' which could mean really any number of things, but it would mean one thing for sure, and that's that AirPods Pro are going to get some kind of AI infusion. That dose of AI could be the problem. While we can't say for sure what's delaying Apple's next-gen AirPods Pro, if I had to guess, Apple Intelligence has more to do with the holdup than you think. Wireless earbuds, outside of AirPods, have been trending in the direction of AI for a couple of years now. Nothing's Ear wireless earbuds, for example, were the first wireless earbuds to roll out a ChatGPT integration, which, as I wrote back then, is theoretically kind of an ideal gadget to showcase AI. There's a chance that Apple might be following in that direction with its next pair of AirPods, which is interesting and potentially useful but problematic when you consider that Apple Intelligence—in particular, its AI Siri upgrade—hasn't exactly gone off without a hitch. If Apple is really interested in infusing its AirPods Pro 3 with AI and the whole AI thing isn't exactly going well, then… It's hard to say for sure what's causing the delay, but there's pretty much only one thing Apple has been struggling with as of late, and it's AI. Adding some credence to that theory is the fact that, according to Bloomberg, AI Siri won't arrive until spring of next year. The timing, then, could be ideal, but if the two products are tied together, then I wouldn't hold your breath since, according to Apple's senior vice president of software engineering, Craig Federighi, Apple wants to 'have [Siri] very much in hand' before it starts talking about dates for 'obvious reasons.'

Mario Kart World: How To Unlock Mirror Mode Tracks
Have you already mastered Mario Kart World's new brand of racing? Have you practiced every wallride and time skip in the game? Maybe it's time to try something new and take on the Mirror Mode challenge. Mirror Mode was introduced in Mario Kart 64 and has shown up in every entry in the series since the GameCube-era Double Dash. This mode flips every race track across the y-axis so that left turns become right turns and vice versa. For gamers who have already mastered the perfect way to drift around every corner, this reimagining of every course interrupts muscle memory and makes old races feel new again. In Mario Kart World, players are able to unlock a version of Mirror Mode that lets them flip each cup around for a different racing experience. You'll also get a chance to mirror the Free Roam area, drastically changing one of the biggest new Mario Kart features. These Mirror Modes unlock in two different ways. Here's how to unlock Mirror Mode races and Free Roam in Mario Kart World. Keep an eye out for Free Roam collectibles. Knocking out P-Switch challenges is important if you want to unlock Mirror Mode. Nintendo/Screenshot by CNET How to unlock Mirror Mode races in Mario Kart World There's a small laundry list of requirements that you'll have to knock out if you want to unlock Mirror Mode races in this game. You'll have to master the existing in-game cups as well as extensively engage with Mario Kart World's new Free Roam feature. Here's everything you need to complete in order to unlock Mirror Mode races in Mario Kart World. Complete all Grand Prix Cups and Knockout Tour Rallies in 150cc You'll have to beat every race in the game at the current fastest speed in order to unlock the Mirror Mode for their tracks. Interestingly, you don't actually need to place first in these cups to fulfill the requirement -- just make sure you've completed these races in the 150cc mode, as the slower races don't count toward unlocking Mirror Mode. Collect 10 Peach Medallions and ? Panels Peach Medallions and ? Panels can be found in the nooks and crannies of Mario Kart World's Free Roam mode. Peach Medallions are often hidden in corners or off the beaten path, whereas ? Panels are more likely to be found in open areas or on wallriding sections of racetracks. You'll need to find at least 10 of each of these collectibles in order to unlock Mirror Mode. Finish 10 P-Switch challenges In addition to picking up collectibles throughout the world, you'll have to find and complete 10 P-Switch challenges. These big blue buttons unlock special timed courses to complete in the open world. You need to fully complete 10 of these challenges to fulfill the Mirror Mode requirement. Complete the Special Cup on 150cc (again) This is the last step to unlock Mirror Mode in Mario Kart World, and you can't complete it before wrapping up the other requirements. If you've already beaten the Special Cup on 150cc before beating the other races and picking up all of those collectibles, you'll have to complete this set of races again. The good news is that you don't need to get first place to unlock the special mode. Just like with the Grand Prix Cups and Knockout Rally Tours, completion is what matters here. Once you finish the Special Cup on 150cc, you'll get a notification alongside a small icon of the Peach Stadium's stained glass window that informs you that you've unlocked Mirror Mode. You'll be able to choose Mirror Mode from the race selection screen -- and this notification gives you a hint about how to enter the new mode in Free Roam. You'll have to pop on top of Peach's castle and enter the stained glass window (top left) in order to enter Mirror Mode in Free Roam. Nintendo/Mixeli/Screenshot by CNET How to enter Mirror Mode in Free Roam in Mario Kart World Free Roam's Mirror Mode won't take nearly as much effort to activate. Instead of filling out a list of requirements, you only need to find a single secret in Mario Kart World's open world to activate this version of Mirror Mode. To flip Free Roam around the y-axis, you'll have to unlock the Mirror Mode for regular cup races first. After you've done that, visit the Peach Stadium track while exploring the world. There's a secret stained glass portrait of Princess Peach that you need to locate on this course. You can find this stained glass portrait on the roof of Peach's castle. Locate one of the parts of the racetrack where you can drive off and land on the roof and then climb toward the middle of the castle. The portrait is front and center on the castle roof -- you can't miss it. Drive through the stained glass to enable Mirror Mode in Free Roam. Disabling Mirror Mode is as simple as driving through the Peach portrait once again. What are the rewards for beating Mirror Mode? Once you unlock Mirror Mode, it's only natural that you blitz through the newly flipped race tracks in each Grand Prix Cup. Just know that there aren't any new racers, karts or tracks to unlock by beating the cups with Mirror Mode on. The only reward you'll earn is a renewed sense of pride and accomplishment for tackling this challenge.
