Colts injuries: Kenny Moore II, Alec Pierce leave Sunday's practice

WESTFIELD, Ind. — Injuries are running rampant for the Colts at training camp. Veteran slot cornerback Kenny Moore II left early in the team's Sunday session due to a knee injury, and wide receiver Alec Pierce was knocked out of the practice halfway through by a groin injury. Moore went down early and had his right knee checked, then got up and limped off the field with a trainer, leaving the Colts facing another injury in a cornerback room that has been decimated over the past couple of weeks. 'I just heard a knee,' Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen said immediately after the practice. 'I don't have any more.' Any significant injury to Moore would be an enormous blow. The Colts lost promising third-round pick Justin Walley to a torn ACL in Baltimore, taking a likely starting cornerback away from Lou Anarumo's defense, and the top two candidates for Walley's job, Jaylon Jones and JuJu Brents, each remain out of the lineup due to hamstring injuries suffered in practice. 'I don't have a timetable on their return,' Steichen said. Pierce's injury may have occurred during 7-on-7 drills. After a couple of periods spent trying to gut through it, Pierce headed to the injury tent to be examined, then returned to the field to test out his ability to practice. Unable to give it a go, Pierce then headed back to the team's Grand Park facilities with a trainer. Beyond the cornerbacks, the Colts have a long list of players sitting out practice. Starting strong safety Nick Cross has missed the last two days due to a hip flexor, and key defensive end Kwity Paye missed Sunday's practice due to a groin injury. Veteran running back Khalil Herbert has also missed the last two days of practice with a wrap on his leg, and wide receiver D.J. Montgomery has been held out, spending time next to Brents, Jones and Cross on the stationary bike.

4 Colts starters dealing with injuries; 2 exited Sunday's practice

Four key members of the Indianapolis Colts' 2025 roster are working through injuries. Two of them exited practice on Sunday. Four key members of the Indianapolis Colts' 2025 roster are working through injuries currently. Two of them would exit Sunday's practice. Not on the practice field on Sunday were safety Nick Cross and defensive end Kwity Paye. According to the Indy Star's Nate Atkins, Cross has a hip flexor injury and Paye a groin. Then during the training camp practice, both Kenny Moore and Alec Pierce would exit. According to ESPN's Stephen Holder, Moore had an "apparent issue" with his right knee and seemed to be in "intense pain." Moore would walk off slowly after a trainer came over. The Colts are already very thin at cornerback with Justin Walley out for the season with an ACL injury, while JuJu Brents and Jaylon Jones work through hamstring injuries. Not long after, Pierce also exited. According to the Indy Star's Joel Erickson, Pierce briefly left the field to be examined but did return with a trainer to test something out. However, he left the field shortly after that with a trainer. Following the practice, it was announced that Pierce has a groin injury and Moore a knee injury. Atkins would add that there isn't any real indication of how serious any of the four injuries are.
