No more 9-to-5: Prostitution den operating in broad daylight shut down
Among the individuals detained in the raid by the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department at a premise believed to be offering prostitution activities on Tuesday.
KUALA LUMPUR – Offering sex services during office hours was one of the tactics used by a prostitution den in the capital, exposed by the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department during a raid on Tuesday.
The premises, operating on the upper floor of a two-storey shop lot, is believed to have targeted foreign customers.
It was understood that customers were offered the services of guest relations officers (GROs) for prices ranging from RM50 to RM300 per session. A woman believed to be a prostitute was detained in the raid conducted on Tuesday.
Kuala Lumpur Immigration director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said the raid was conducted at about 3pm following intelligence and public complaints.
'A total of 25 individuals were detained, including 14 foreign women and three local men aged between 20 and 61.
'They comprised nationals from Indonesia, Bangladesh and India. Also detained were two local men believed to be caretakers of the premises,' he said on Tuesday. The operation was carried out by a team of officers and personnel from the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department on Tuesday.
He said investigations revealed offences including abuse of social visit passes and the absence of valid travel documents.
'Action was taken under Section 56(1)(d), Section 15(1)(c), and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 as well as Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963,' he added.

[UPDATED] Court to decide A-GC's appeal against Najib addendum bid on Aug 13
PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Court has fixed Aug 13 to deliver its verdict on the Attorney-General's Chambers' (A-GC) appeal to stop Datuk Seri Najib Razak's legal bid in relation to the addendum order allowing house arrest. The former prime minister's lawyer Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee confirmed this when contacted today. The former Pekan member of parliament claims that a royal addendum issued by the former Yang di-Pertuan Agong allows him to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest. He is currently serving a six-year prison sentence in Kajang Prison after being convicted of misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd. During the last proceeding, Senior Federal Counsel Shamsul Bolhassan said A-GC did not dispute the existence of the royal addendum but challenged the procedure by which it was introduced as new evidence in Najib's judicial review. Meanwhile, Najib's lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, argued that the A-GC should not claim the decree is speculative at the leave stage of a judicial review if it truly embraces the principles of honesty, transparency, and openness. The senior lawyer had said the obligation to be truthful in this judicial review does not require his client to procure a copy of the addendum decree. He said it is the Attorney-General's responsibility to confirm or deny the existence of the addendum decree at the leave stage if they dispute its existence. On Jan 6, a three-member Court of Appeal panel led by Datuk Azizah Nawawi, in a split decision, also allowed Najib's application to adduce additional affidavits to support his application. The High Court had sentenced Najib to 12 years in prison with a fine of RM210 million, a verdict that was subsequently upheld by the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court. However, his prison sentence was halved to six years and his fine reduced to RM50 million following his petition for a royal pardon in February last year. Najib later filed an application concerning an alleged addendum order signed by the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest. Previously, the High Court had dismissed his application.

Foreigner detained for trespassing onto LRT tracks as 'shortcut' to work
KUALA LUMPUR: A foreigner was arrested for trespassing onto the light rail transit (LRT) tracks at Masjid Jamek station yesterday morning. The suspect, who allegedly crossed from Platform 2 to Platform 1 of the Ampang Line, claimed he used the tracks as a shortcut to his workplace. Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said auxiliary police detained the man after they were alerted by Prasarana's Integrated Control Centre (ICC). The incident occurred at 10.11am, and the suspect was apprehended shortly after by patrol personnel. "Initial investigations showed that the man had entered the restricted area as a shortcut to get to his workplace," Sulizmie said in a statement. He added that the suspect also failed to produce valid identification documents when stopped. A police report has been lodged, and the case is being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass, and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for failing to present valid travel or identification documents. Sulizmie said police will apply for a remand order against the suspect at the magistrate's court today.
