Exclusive - Akshay Nalawade: Playing Garud demands holding a strong presence and distinct mannerisms
He then did a web series called Nishedh. His big screen debut was Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, where he played Farhan Akhtar's colleague. It won't be wrong to say that he has climbed up steadily in his acting journey and has carved a niche for himself.
Although he plays Garud Dev on Shiv Shakti: Tap Tyag Tandav on Colors, he essays the same role on Kakbhushundi Ramayan on DD National. However, he admitted that both characters are quite different-looking.
He said, 'In Shiv Shakti, Garud Dev has big wings and a prosthetic beak. In Kakbhushundi Ramayan, the character has intense eye makeup, lenses, and fur on the shoulders.'
He admitted that playing the role of Garud is extremely challenging and added, 'It demands holding a strong presence, distinct mannerisms, and a specific aura and weight.'
While it's common for an actor playing a mythological character to be typecast, Akshay doesn't fear that.
He said, 'My main focus is on being cast and getting the opportunity to act. Acting is my passion, and work is always the priority. I don't worry about being typecast. Versatility is my strength, not the type of role.'
He further added, 'Apart from monetary factors, every role I play is a part of my journey as an actor. In fact, I feel grateful to portray one of the narrators in Kakbhushundi Ramayan, because it gives me the chance to listen to the entire Ramayan as part of my job.'
Akshay always wanted to become an actor and never really had a plan B. He said, 'Acting has always been my dream. I've learned skills like dancing, martial arts, singing, and horse riding, not to replace acting but to enhance my performance and versatility as an actor.'
His eyes are set on his goal—to become a successful actor, one who is appreciated for the craft and dedication he brings to every performance. 'I want people to recognize me for the art I bring to the screen and the honesty with which I portray each role,' Akshay ended.

When Akshay Kumar Danced Garba in a Gujarati Film — A Forgotten 2000 Cameo in Chundadi Ni Laaj
Before his Bollywood stardom, Akshay Kumar surprised fans with a cameo in the 2000 Gujarati film, 'Chundadi Ni Laaj,' showcasing his versatility in a vibrant Garba dance sequence alongside Namrata Shirodkar. This wasn't his only regional venture, as he also appeared in the Kannada film 'Ashaant' in 1993. He now gears up for Jolly LLB 3 with Arshad Warsi. Before Akshay Kumar became one of Bollywood's most bankable stars known for his action comedies and patriotic dramas, he made an unexpected appearance in a regional film that many fans today aren't even aware of. Back in the year 2000, Akshay featured in a Gujarati film titled Chundadi Ni Laaj, making a brief but memorable cameo. Mohit Suri Spills On 20 Years In Bollywood - Ahaan & Aneet, Alia Bhatt Dream Collab & More In the film, Akshay was seen participating in a lively garba and dandiya sequence — a vibrant, high-energy traditional dance synonymous with Gujarat's festive spirit. Dressed in traditional attire, the actor danced amidst a crowd of revellers and he was accompanied by Namrata Shirodkar in the song.. It was a rare sight to see the Khiladi of Bollywood shedding his action-hero image for a festive celebration on screen in a regional production. Interestingly, Chundadi Ni Laaj wasn't just graced by Akshay's cameo. The film also featured brief appearances by Johnny Lever , making it quite the star-studded affair for a Gujarati film of that time. While Akshay's appearance lasted only a few minutes, it remains a delightful piece of trivia for fans and film buffs alike. It also showcased his willingness, even back then, to step outside conventional boundaries and participate in regional cinema, albeit in a cameo role. In fact this was now the first time Akshay did a regional film, back in 1993 Akshay was part of a film called Ashaant which had Kannada superstar Vishuvardhan in the lead. The film was first made in Hindi and when it was time to be remade in Kannada- Akshay played the same role in the Kannada version. The film bombed in Hindi but in the South the film was a major success. Akshay is currently enjoying his long due success thanks to films like Sky Force, Kesari 2 and Housefull 5. He's now looking forward to Jolly LLB 3 with Arshad Warsi and Subhash Kapoor and to Priyadarshan's Bhoot Bangla. Also with all controversy settled and Paresh Rawal returning- he would be finally starting work on Hera Pheri 3.
