The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved the establishment of four new semiconductor manufacturing units across the country at the cost of Rs 4,594 crore. Of these, two factories will be set up in Odisha, while one each will come up in Andhra Pradesh and Punjab.These four approved proposals are expected to generate a cumulative employment for 2034 skilled professionals which would catalyse the electronic manufacturing ecosystem resulting in the creation of many indirect jobs, as per central government.With these four more approvals today, total approved projects under ISM reaches to 10 with cumulative investments of around Rs 1.60 lakh crore in 6 states."Given the growing demand of semiconductors in telecom, automotive, datacentres, consumer electronics and industrial electronics, these four new approved semiconductors projects would significantly contribute to making Atmanirbhar Bharat. "SiCSem and 3D Glass will be set up in Odisha. CDIL is located in Punjab and ASIP will be set up in Andhra Pradesh.Union Information and Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had said earlier that the country is set to witness the rollout of its first made-in-India chip "very soon" as six semiconductor plants are already under construction in Gujarat, Assam and Uttar Pradesh.Emphasising the government's resolve for the easy accessibility of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, he said, "AI is shaping our world today. Our Prime Minister's vision is of democratising technology. It should be accessible to all. It should not be limited to a few. It should be available to all. That's why we have done the India AI mission in which 34,000 GPUs (Graphics Processing Units) are available today as a common compute facility for all our innovators."In addition, the PM Modi-led Cabinet also gave the green light for the extension of the Lucknow Metro line at a budget of Rs 5,801 crore, aiming to enhance urban mobility and cater to the growing transportation needs of the city's residentsIt also approved a Bill to establish a new Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Guwahati and the construction of a Tato-II hydroelectric Project worth 700 MW at the cost of Rs 8,146 crore.This would mark the second IIM in the northeast, after the first one in Shillong.

(File) Bengaluru Metro: In some great news for commuters on the Bengaluru Metro, aka the Namma Metro network, a fourth train will start operations soon 0n the Namma Metro Yellow Line, as the first of six coaches for the trainset has arrived in the Karnataka capital from Kolkata, while the remaining five coaches are expected to arrive in the next couple of days. When will Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line get its fourth train? According to B L Yashavanth Chavan, Chief Public Relations Officer, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), after their arrival, all six coaches will be coupled to form a train at the Hebbagodi depot. After static testing, the train will ply on the Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line, he said. The fourth train will undergo at least two weeks of testing on the mainline at night before entering passenger service by early September, according to another senior official. Who built the trainsets? The coaches for the new Yellow Line train were manufactured by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), under a sub-contract with China's state-owned CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co Ltd, officials said. The BMRCL awarded TRSL a Rs 1,578-crore contract in December 2019 to deliver 36 trainsets, 15 for the Yellow Line and 21 for the Purple and Green lines, within 173 weeks. But the order was delayed as CRCC could not find an Indian partner for a long time, and later faced visa troubles for bringing in its engineers from China. A prototype train for the Yellow Line was delivered by CRRC in February 2024, while TSRL delivered two more trainsets this year. All three trains are currently operation in the 19.15-km long Yellow Line, which opened on August 11 with a 25-minute frequency.

These statements come in response to public concerns that E20 use reduces fuel efficiency, accelerates wear and tear, and could result in rejection of insurance claims for non-compliant vehicles. CM unveils Dial-112 as state's new all-in-one emergency helpline

Bhopal: CM Mohan Yadav on Thursday inaugurated the new integrated quick response service in emergency situations Dial-112 that replaced the existing Dial-100. Congratulating the MP Police on the launch of Dial-112, the CM said it was a new initiative to enhance police responsiveness. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He said, "This emergency number will become a cornerstone of a society's safety & security ecosystem, serving as both a promise of swift police response and a commitment to assistance for the people of the state." The CM further said: "In today's era of minimum govt, maximum governance, Dial 112 will play a key role as a 'one number for all emergency services' facility'." Police control rooms have been equipped with advanced technology and first response vehicles (FRVs) have been fitted with modern equipment. The Dial-100 model of MP has already been adopted by other states, including Uttar Pradesh. Through its vigilance and efficiency, Dial-100 has ensured the safety of 2.23 lakh elderly citizens, more than 19 lakh women, 1,300 newborns and reunited 23,000 missing children with their families, a significant achievement for the MP Police. The newly launched Dial 112 service will provide all possible assistance to citizens in various emergencies. The state govt has allocated over Rs 1,500 crore for these vehicles, reaffirming that citizens' safety remains its top priority, Yadav said. DGP Kailash Makwana called the launch of Dial-112 a historic occasion.
