New mascara that gives incredible volume in one swipe and enhances blue eyes

Daily Mirror21-05-2025
If you want lots of volume from your mascara, our beauty editor Laura has found an excellent new one, with the added benefit of enhancing eye colour too
As someone who wears mascara pretty much every day, I'll always jump at the chance to try out new ones as soon as they launch, forever on the hunt for the 'perfect' one. I've recently hit upon one of the best mascaras for lengthening, but if it's noticeable volume you look for in a formula, I was instantly impressed by this new one.
Dior already has one smash hit mascara on its hands with Diorshow Overcurl Mascara, and now it's back 'over'-delivering with its newest one, Diorshow Overvolume Mascara, £35, with claims that include lashes that appear 440% fuller, an intensely pigmented black, and no-transfer, 24-hour wear.
Thanks to diligent use of lash serums my eyelashes are long and plentiful but they're fair and fine, so I like a mascara that really amps up the volume without clumping – and I think I've found one here...
Dior Diorshow Overvolume Mascara review
First up, a brief moment for the packaging. With a luxe black quilted design, it's inspired by Dior's iconic handbags, and I think one of the brand's most striking yet. A definite win in the style stakes.
It has my favourite type of mascara brush – silicone bristled – in an hourglass shape that does a great job at reaching between and grabbing every hair.
What impressed me first was just how quick it is to apply and achieve a voluminous look, without having to go over and over your lashes; you could honestly be done in one or two swipes. Most days one layer is enough for me, but I sometimes wiggle a second coat into the roots of the lashes for added dimension. Cleverly, it delivers dramatic volume without clumping or looking spidery – a real 'false lash effect'.
Another surprising benefit was just how flattering the colour was against my blue eyes, and it actually reminded me of a similar effect from using the black Diorshow Liquid Liner; Dior just does black pigments so well.
I would never test a mascara's 24-hour claim, but it definitely lasted well all day without any smudging or flaking (it did just seem to 'fade' a little bit as the hours wore on, so I would add another coat if I was going out in the evening). Another minor niggle is that the brush is a little big for doing your lower lashes; I would have preferred a pointier tip for painting these tiny hairs.
Overall, though, despite how fussy I am about mascara, I've been super impressed by this new Dior formula for the volume and pigment it delivers, and it has become a new firm favourite in my make-up bag.
If, however, you find that the only mascaras that don't smudge on you are tubing mascaras, you should try Too Faced's new Ribbon Wrapped Lash Mascara, £28. And for length, nothing much beats Haus Labs' B Structural Volumizing + Lengthening Mascara, £27, for me.

Nail-biting MasterChef Australia semi-final sees shock elimination as the two going head-to-head in grand finale are revealed: 'Just missed out'

MasterChef Australia is heading for the grand finale on Tuesday night. And on Monday, the contestant kicked out just short of vying for the Back To Win crown was revealed. Laura Sharrad, Callum Hann and Jamie Fleming went head-to-head in a challenge that required them to make a three-course menu for 20 people. In the end, it was Jamie who fell short, after his overly ambitious menu left him having to make multiple substitutions to finish on time. Upon being eliminated, Jamie was modest in defeat, telling the judges that he understood he could have performed better. 'I always thought to beat either one of these two, I had to absolutely swing for the fences in both technique and flavour and concept,' he said. 'I think I missed the mark a little bit. But as a concept, that whole menu, like, the excitement that I felt from you guys, the excitement I felt writing it, that was pretty phenomenal. And I'm very proud,' he went on. 'I can't thank this process enough. But to share this experience with these two? Amazing.' While he missed out on the $250,000 prize and the MasterChef crown, Jamie did win $10,000 in travel vouchers. In an interview with Channel Ten after the episode was filmed, Jamie, who came fourth on the sixth season of MasterChef Australia in 2014, said his family gave him strength throughout the competition. 'Once I got into the semi-final I definitely started to think about and imagine my partner, Clare, and the kids up on the gantry supporting me,' he said. 'As it stands, we just missed out so… give me a decade and if they do another Back To Win and I get invited, we'll see.' He added: 'Even though the disappointment was there, I was still proud of what I did.' On social media, Jamie further reflected on his journey. 'I cook to nourish and I cook because it gives me a chance to share and learn from other people and cultures,' he wrote. 'Simple food, beautiful produce, served with purpose and restraint. That's me. And ironically it's taken coming back to this place to remember that,' he said. 'I think that stripping back of ingredients is certainly the cooking I love, I think that is beautiful cooking. 'So the fact that I sort of came the long way around to figure that out, and figure out that's not just what I like eating but it's how I like to cook and celebrate the ingredients, I think that it was a big thing and I'm happy it happened.' Despite being happy to make the grand finale alongside fellow fan favourite Laura, an emotional Callum said he felt bad for Jamie. 'I'm really chuffed to be in the finale, but it's, like, at the expense of this guy. It doesn't quite feel as good as maybe I'd hoped,' Callum admitted. 'I think the friendships we've made over the course of the last few months... I want to reserve happiness for maybe a little bit later. 'I think this is a moment to celebrate how good this guy's been in the competition so far.'

Dior unveils four-storey New York flagship featuring a Dior Spa

Dior has unveiled its new flagship in New York City, steps away from the historic site where Christian Dior first established his presence in the US in 1948, at the corner of 57th Street and Madison Avenue. The four-storey flagship store, named the 'House of Dior New York,' has been designed by renowned architect Peter Marino, to offer a 'pared-down yet warm atmosphere, blending heritage and modernity' to showcase Dior's universe, including women's and men's ready-to-wear to leather goods, jewellery, Dior Maison, and fragrances, alongside exclusive, limited-edition items. 'House of Dior New York' Credits: Dior by Jonathan Taylor The boutique also features an exclusive Dior Spa, located on the fourth and top floor, exuding the elegance of Parisian haute couture salons, honouring the iconic 30 Montaigne in Paris, to offer an exclusive setting dedicated to bespoke treatments and services, such as an in-depth skin diagnosis courtesy of Dior Measurements, an analysis tool that assesses the collagen, hydration, pH levels, and elasticity of your skin. Other treatments include facials, utilising technologies such as Cold Laser, Ultrasound, Microcurrent, LED, Cryotherapy, and Oxygen infusion, as well as light therapy and a 90-minute 'Happiness' treatment that stimulates serotonin and dopamine to restore emotional balance while improving mood and wellbeing. A central visual feature of the space is the vibrant Colorama staircase, which aims to immerse shoppers in Dior's rich legacy through miniature items, such as handbags, perfumes, cosmetics, and hats, to offer a visual journey through more than seventy-five years of the French luxury fashion house's history. The space is also an homage to Christian Dior's love of art, with the décor featuring works by artists including Adam Fuss, Claude Lalanne, Karine Laval, Jean-Michel Othoniel, Tony Scherman, and Jennifer Steinkamp, as well as photographs by Robert Mapplethorpe, and a striking digital installation by Jennifer Steinkamp.
