Assam: Two arrested for pro-Pak stand on social media
Assam Police have arrested two persons on the charges of taking a pro-Pakistan stand on social media, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Md Dilbar Hussain and Hafizur Rahman.
Hussain was taken into custody in the Sonitpur district, while Rahman was arrested in the Kamrup district.
According to CM Sarma, a total of 81 anti-nationals are now behind bars for sympathising with Pakistan.
He said, "Our systems are constantly tracking anti-national posts on social media and taking action."
Among the 81 arrested people, the most prominent is the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Aminul Islam.
He was the first person to be arrested in the state for the "pro-Pakistan" stand.
Aminul Islam, an AIUDF MLA from Assam's Dhing Assembly constituency, was arrested on May 1 on sedition charges following his provocative statement regarding the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives.
In a video clip circulated on social media, the AIUDF leader is heard claiming that the Pahalgam and Pulwama attacks were part of a "government conspiracy".
Aminul Islam said, "Six years ago in Pulwama, when the RDX blast happened and 42 soldiers died, I said on that day that the Pulwama blast happened at the behest of a conspiracy of the Central government, and it was a conspiracy to win the 2019 Lok Sabha polls."
He added that what happened in Pahalgam is that the "BJP has been peddling that the terrorists asked about religion and opened fire only on Hindus, and they let go of Muslims".
"But the victims said that the terrorists opened fire without asking about anybody's name, and I doubt that the nexus which was involved in the Pulwama attack in which RDX was used, is behind the Pahalgam incident," he said.
"If the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government does not conduct a fair investigation into the incident and tries to bring a division between Hindus and Muslims, I would believe that this incident happened because of a conspiracy," Aminul Islam said.
However, AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal distanced himself from his party legislator's comments.
Ajmal said, "AIUDF stands with the government. The terrorists have no religion, and those who spread terrorism are against Islam."

Police arrest six for posting hateful messages on social media
The Mangauru City Police have arrested six persons on charges of spreading hate messages on social media platforms to disturb peace in society and create unrest between communities. The police acted through the special teams constituted for the purpose. Mohammed Aslam, 23, native of NS Road, Hejmady, in Udupi district, and a resident of Saudi Arabia, had allegedly posted hateful messages on his Instagram page team_jokerzz._. A case was registered with the Mangaluru South Police, who issued a lookout circular and later arrested him, said a release from the City Police. Chetan, 20, resident of Katipalla-Surathal and Nitin Adapa, 23, resident of Chelair, had allegedly procured SIM cards in the names of Muslims and opened the team_karna_surathkal Instagram page. Chennappa alias Mutthu had allegedly posted provocative messages on the page. Mangaluru North police, who had registered a case, have arrested the two. The Mulki Police arrested Riyaz Ibrahim, a native of Arkula near Mangaluru, living in Saudi Arabia, on charges of posting provocative messages on social media. A lookout circular was issued to secure him, police said. Mulki Police also arrested Jamal Zakir, 21, a resident of Kasaba Bengre in Mangaluru on charges of posting hate-inciting messages on Troll-bengare_ro_makka Instagram page. Guruprasad, a resident of Haelyangadi, was arrested by the Mulki police on charges of posting provocative messages on his Facebook account, Guru dprasad Haleyangadi. All the arrested were charged under Section 353, statements conducing to public mischief and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita. The investigations were being conducted by the Cybercrime, Narcotics and Economic Offences Police of Mangaluru City under the guidance of Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy and Deputy Commissioners Siddarth Goyal and K. Kamal Haasan thanks ‘entire Tamil Nadu for standing behind' him amid Kannada row
Despite Tuesday's Karnataka High Court reprimand over his remarks that Kannada was born out of Tamil and his refusal to apologise, actor-politician Kamal Haasan on Wednesday thanked the 'entire state of Tamil Nadu for standing behind' him. While lauding crew members of his film Thug Life for their hard work, Haasan expressed his deep love for the Tamil language as he referred to the slogan 'Uyire, Urave, Tamizhe' (Tamil is my life and my family) in his first public appearance after the high court's critical remarks. Incidentally, Haasan had used the 'Uyire, Urave, Tamizhe' slogan during the promotional event of his latest film during which he made the controversial remark about Kannada. The 70-year-old actor had said Kannada was born out of Tamil, triggering protests by pro-Kannada organisations. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) warned that the film would not be released in the state unless Haasan issued a formal apology. The actor lauded Mani Ratnam, saying the ace director had transformed into a 'cinema gyani' and that he was excited to work with the latter. After the high court reprimand, his production house, Raaj Kamal Films International, said he would hold a dialogue with the KFCC and later announced that the film would not be released in the state. Raajkamal Film Ventures had filed a plea in the high court for police protection for the release of the film. Justice M Nagaprasanna suggested that Haasan should express regret if the sentiments of people in Karnataka had been hurt by his recent remarks on the origin of the Kannada language. In a letter to the KFCC earlier, Haasan had expressed his 'pain' that his statement at the film's audio launch was misunderstood and taken out of context. He said the statement was made out of affection for the family of Dr Rajkumar, including Shiva Rajkumar, as he wanted to convey that they were from the same family. Haasan also expressed his admiration for the Kannada literary and cultural traditions, the warmth extended to him by Kannadigas, and his love for Kannada. He said his bond with all the languages of the land was heartfelt and that he was opposed to the dominance of any one language as it would undermine the linguistic fabric of India. He added that as a speaker of the 'language of cinema', his statement was only intended to establish a bond and unity. Haasan also said he hoped his words would be received in the intended spirit and reiterated his affection for Karnataka and Kannada. He concluded his letter by stating his belief that the misunderstanding was temporary and another opportunity to 'reiterate our mutual love and respect'. Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi wrote to the KFCC on May 29, urging that all films featuring Haasan be banned in Karnataka if he failed to apologise. Hiding behind fake profiles, people threaten to kill judge who denied Sharmishta Panoli bail
A Kolkata judge only denied bail to Sharmistha Panoli, a social media influencer accused of making communally-charged statements in a video. This enraged many, and they now want to issue a death warrant against the the bail rejection on June 3, anonymous accounts on X went after Justice Partha Sarathi Chatterjee of the Calcutta High Court — going so far as to say he deserved 'unknown gunmen'. This, of course, was a reference to Luigi Mangione, the American man accused of shooting and killing Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, in December last X user called Toshali wrote, "This scum bong - Partha Sarathi Chatterjee - deserves kambal some unknown need their unknown gunmen in that fear to seep in to such cretin judges." Another account with the username rohitkumar23595 replied, saying, "Kill Partha Sarathi Chatterjee." India Today Fact Check looked at the various threats being issued to the judge on X and found a common thread: these accounts were anonymous. They had no real profile pictures, using photos of animated characters, sportspersons, and even coins. Some of these accounts were created mere days ago in some accused the judge of corruption and alleged ties with West Bengal's ruling party, the Trinamool Congress, others crossed the line into explicit threats and attempts at account going by the name of Adi shared a link from the National Green Tribunal website containing the judge's bio. He wrote: 'Let's see if we can find his home address.' While the account claimed it was based in New York, we could not find any posts about the US city. All the posts seemed to be about Indian account, going by the name Rupesh Reddi, posted, 'Anyone know his address? Or mobile number? Please do share.'advertisementSome others encouraged mob violence veiled as 'public action'. A parody account featuring the profile photo of WWE wrestler Becky Lynch wrote: "Public should take care of him whenever he is spotted in public place." Another account wrote, "Prime time to set an example... That's all I will say. Off-topic: the French Revolution was a crazy moment in history, right?"The French Revolution, a period of political upheaval in France in the late 1700s, saw the public execution of many, including King Louis the bail plea hearing on June 3, Justice Chatterjee reportedly said, 'This video was made on social media, it was heard, and this incident has led to a section of people's sentiments being hurt.' This remark was not taken well by many accounts. One X user named Sentinel posted a cryptic note saying, "Well, let's hope it does not come to 'the judge should have thought of the consequences before denying bail', considering the threats she is under. What will he say then?"Sharmistha Panoli, the accused in the case, issued an unconditional apology and deleted the contentious video. Despite this, however, she was arrested after multiple FIRs were filed against her. The Calcutta High Court has since ordered the consolidation of all the FIRs into a single case.
