Lorry driver believed 'high' on drugs crashes into two vehicles in Batang Kali

The Star03-05-2025
BATANG KALI: A tanker lorry driver, believed to be under the influence of drugs, crashed into a car before his heavy vehicle collided with another lorry coming from the opposite direction in an incident at KM39, Jalan Kuala Lumpur–Ipoh on Friday (May 2), Sinar Harian reports.
Acting Hulu Selangor OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Asri Mohd Yunus, told the Malay language daily that the incident, which occurred at around 4:35pm, involved three vehicles — a car, a trailer, and the tanker driven by the 57-year-old suspect.
"The accident happened when a car driven by a local woman from Selayang to Batang Kali was rear-ended by the tanker.
"After hitting the car, the tanker lost control and veered into the opposite lane, sideswiping a trailer coming from the opposite direction," he said in a statement on Saturday (May 3).
He added that a urine test revealed the tanker driver was positive for methamphetamine.
"The suspect, a local man, has been detained for further investigation, and all individuals involved in the accident were unharmed.
"Further checks revealed the suspect has a criminial record, with five prior drug offences and 32 traffic violations," he said.
DSP Mohd Asri reminded employers to conduct background checks on individuals before hiring them, especially for positions involving the driving of heavy vehicles.
"The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
"Those with information related to the incident are urged to come forward to assist in the investigation," he said.

Man dies after being stabbed in front of his family home in Seremban

SEREMBAN: A man who had been engaged for just two weeks was fatally stabbed in front of his family home in Taman Sri Pagi. In the incident at 6.50pm, Muhammad Amirul Rasyid Mohd Niza, 28, was stabbed in the chest by a 31-year-old man. Tragically, the single father had planned to shop for his wedding gifts on the night of the incident. The victim's younger brother, Muhammad Amirul Hakim, 27, told Sinar Harian that he was chatting with the deceased outside their house when a car stopped nearby. "I thought it was my brother's friend. But a man got out of the car, approached us, and without saying anything, stabbed my brother in the chest. "I immediately screamed and held onto the suspect to prevent him from escaping while cradling my blood-soaked brother," he said. He added that the suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended by residents who tied him up with a rope," he said, adding that the victim was still alive at that point. "There was so much blood, and my mother fainted upon seeing my brother's condition. At the time of the incident, 10 of my other siblings were at home. What happened was a huge shock to our family because it occurred so suddenly," he said. The deceased had just returned home after taking his only child out for a walk. Since separating from his wife a few years ago, the deceased's child had been cared for by the family. "The deceased worked at a restaurant and stayed at a worker's hostel in Taman Lavender Height, Senawang. He had been engaged for two weeks and planned to marry this year. "Last night, he was supposed to buy his wedding gifts," he said. Muhammad Amirul Hakim stated that he and his family did not know the suspect and were unsure of the motive behind the incident. "To my knowledge, the deceased had no enemies. I was very close to him, and usually, wherever he went, we would go together," he said. The body of the deceased arrived at Surau Taman Sri Pagi for prayers at 2.48pm before being buried at the Islamic Cemetery in Senawang, Forest Height. Previously, Seremban District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Hatta Che Din stated that initial investigations revealed the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding between the suspect and the victim. "The suspect allegedly stabbed the victim in the chest with a knife, causing the victim to die at the scene. A medical officer from Hospital Tuanku Jaafar who arrived at the location confirmed the victim's death at 7.28pm," he said. He added that the suspect was apprehended with the help of the public, and the knife used was seized. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, and the suspect is remanded until August 18. "The exact motive behind the incident is still under investigation, and the public with relevant information is urged to come forward to assist in the investigation," he said.

Melaka JPJ cracks down on unlicensed foreign drivers

MELAKA: A targeted enforcement by Melaka Road Transport Department (JPJ) resulted in the arrest of six Myanmar nationals and the seizure of a luxury Toyota Alphard. State JPJ director Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop said the foreigners, made up of five men and one woman aged between 25 and 30, were stopped at the Jasin toll plaza exit here at about 10am on Tuesday (Aug 12) during Operasi Pemandu Warga Asing (Op Pewa). The operation, she said, focused on foreign drivers without valid documents. "Checks revealed that none of the six could produce legal identification and the man behind the wheel had no valid driving licence. 'They were handed over to the police for further action," she said today. Siti Zarina said the vehicle, which was registered under the name of a Malaysian man, was also seized for investigation. She said throughout the operation, officers inspected 56 vehicles and found that 38 of them had committed various traffic offences. "In total, 119 notices were issued under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) and a total of 38 vehicles were seized, comprising 36 motorcycles and two cars. "The most common offences were driving without a licence, expired road tax, and the absence of insurance coverage," she said. Siti Zarina added that JPJ also carried out Ops Khas Luxury, an enforcement effort aimed at imported and high-end vehicles that fail to comply with traffic regulations. "Since January, we have seized 10 luxury vehicles for expired road tax and no insurance while seven of these were confiscated during 'Ops Luxury', which has been running nationwide since July 1,' she said. Among the vehicles seized were Porsche, Bentley, BMW, Tesla, Toyota Alphard and Kia models, with a combined estimated value of nearly RM5mil.
