Amit Shah vows victory in upcoming Tamil Nadu and West Bengal polls in 2026
NDA governments will be formed in both Tamil Nadu and Bengal in 2026, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said while addressing party workers in Madurai on Sunday. This marks the BJP's sharpened focus on the southern state as it prepares for the assembly elections next year.
"Though I reside in Delhi, my ears are always tuned to Tamil Nadu," Shah said. "The Chief Minister says, 'Amit Shah cannot defeat the DMK.' Stalin Ji, you are right - I cannot defeat the DMK. But the people of Tamil Nadu can."
He added that, as someone who has campaigned across the country, he knows the pulse of the public. "And this time, the people of Tamil Nadu will uproot the DMK government," he said.

This is the senior BJP leader's second visit to the state in two months. The first was on April 11, when he was in Chennai to announce the expansion of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) by bringing in the AIADMK.
The BJP's former national president further alleged that the DMK has been a "100% failed government" that has not fulfilled even 60% of its manifesto promises.

He said the DMK government in Tamil Nadu "has crossed all limits of corruption" and went on to mention the TASMAC liquor scam, which alone amounts to ₹39,000 crore.
"This amount could have built two new classrooms in every primary school in every village of Tamil Nadu," he said.
He added that he had one request for the BJP's mandal workers: No one has the right to rest until the DMK government is removed from Tamil Nadu.
He also reiterated his demand for the Tamil Nadu government to offer medical and engineering courses in Tamil.
"Why does the DMK government not offer medical and engineering education in Tamil?" he asked.
Shah began his speech by apologising for not being able to speak Tamil. "I sincerely apologise to all the karyakartas of Tamil Nadu for not being able to speak to you in Tamil - one of the greatest languages of India," he said.
Shah's remarks about Tamil come amid a language dispute with the MK Stalin-led state government, which has accused the Centre of Hindi imposition through the proposed three-language formula under the National Education Policy (NEP). The NEP issue sparked an intense row between the Centre and the Tamil Nadu government in March this year.
Shah also brought up how Prime Minister Narendra Modi showed respect for Tamil Nadu by installing the Sengol in Parliament but had yet to receive a word of thanks from CM Stalin.

Ludhiana: E-rickshaws with jingles buzz through bypoll campaigns
At a time when candidates are dabbling with reels, hashtags, digital filters, and social media platforms to lure voters; several political parties in Ludhiana West have roped into a more traditional, yet creative, approach, e-rickshaws fitted with loudspeakers playing catchy campaign jingles and rhyming slogans. These battery-operated vehicles are being used as mobile platforms to promote candidates and connect with residents in a more engaging and accessible manner. The jingles, mostly written in Punjabi and set to familiar tunes, include the candidate's name, party symbol, subtle jibes at opponents, and promises of development. So far, parties like the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have adopted this method for street campaigning, while Congress and others are yet to follow suit. Shedding light on the trend, Vikram Anand, owner of Khushi Advertisers, a firm that composes and records these jingles for political campaigns, said, 'Political parties approach us with slogans and key points they want highlighted. Based on that, we compose jingles in a catchy meter with rhyming sentences that reflect their message.' Anand noted the costing model as well, by stating, 'We charge around ₹1,000 per e-rickshaw. Out of this, ₹300 is for recording the message, ₹400 covers the flags and banners, and the remaining ₹300 goes to the driver.' He added that once candidates receive permission letter from the Election Commission to use e-rickshaws for campaigning, his firm provides the fully equipped vehicles within 24 hours. 'These musical rickshaws are a creative way to connect with people. They help spread the message even when candidates are busy with door-to-door visits and public meetings,' Anand noted. In recent days, streets across Ludhiana West have been buzzing with these campaign songs. BJP's rickshaws, decked with party flags and sound systems, have been using terms like 'Lotu Tola' in reference to the Aam Aadmi Party, urging voters to back local leadership instead of 'outsiders from Delhi.' On the other hand, e-rickshaws promoting AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora are playing jingles like 'Na gussa na ahankaar, badhegi vikas di raftaar,' encouraging voters to support the ruling party for fast paced development in the West constituency.

Rahul's allegations on M'rashtra polls baseless: Karnal MP
Union energy minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday refuted the recent claims by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, regarding 'rigging' in the Maharashtra assembly elections, saying the public have already rejected them. Khattar was speaking to reporters on Sunday after concluding a workshop on the completion of 11 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Karnal Lok Sabha constituency. The Karnal MP also took a dig at the Congress leader for his recent attempts to re-build party organisation in Haryana. 'They must have accelerated the process but the outcome is important. Even we are waiting that they are able to build the party structure at the earliest. I've offered them in the past that if they are not able to do so, they should hire someone from us as advisor,' he added.
